BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Oakland-based hip hop collective Hieroglyphics was founded in the early '90s by Del tha Funkee Homosapien, a cousin of rapper Ice Cube who had already achieved some success as a solo artist before launching the crew. The group quickly became an underground sensation, flooring fans with an impressive lineup that included DJ Toure, rappers Casual and Pep Love, and the four members of the Souls of Mischief, among others. After several years of playing live shows and releasing bootlegs, Hieroglyphics released their official debut album 3rd Eye Vision in 1998. The record landed at No. 26 on Billboard's Heatseekers Albums Chart, establishing them as a rising force and drawing them out on the road for extensive touring. Their 2003 sophomore album Full Circle was an even bigger success, peaking at No. 7 on the Heatseekers chart and earning recognition as one of the seminal hip hop albums of the decade. It was another ten years before they released their third album The Kitchen, but it was worth the wait -- fans and critics alike praised the 2013 album as a welcome return to form for the beloved group. Electrifying performers known for their dynamic sets in concert, Hieroglyphics continue to get fans moving and shaking on their must-see tours.
