About

Electronic music pioneer Howard Jones has been a constant presence on the international touring scene for the past four decades, playing live in a number of different configurations including intimate solo shows and dates with his full high-tech band set-up. He first burst upon the contemporary music scene in 1983, with his very English songwriting and pioneering synthesizers with "New Song". His first two albums HUMAN'S LIB and DREAM INTO ACTION were worldwide hits. HUMAN'S LIB reached #1 in 1984 in the UK and featured the hits "New Song," and "What Is Love?" In 1985, Jones released the follow-up, DREAM INTO ACTION, which quickly became a Top Ten Platinum album in the United States and featured the smashes: "Things Can Only Get Better," "Life In One Day," "No One Is To Blame," and "Like To Get To Know You Well."

Howard Jones has sold upwards of 10 million albums worldwide and continues to make new music and tour the world. Jones has performed on NBC's top-rated morning and nighttime shows respectively, Today and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. His ubiquitous hits can be heard in such high-profile television series and films such as "Stranger Things," "Breaking Bad," "Watchmen," "The Carrie Diaries", "Superstore" and "Bumblebee". Howard Jones' most recent album is DIALOGUE, which was released in September, 2022. DIALOGUE is the third album in a trilogy of electronic releases from Jones with multi-media project ENGAGE coming out in 2015 and studio album TRANSFORM out in 2019. DIALOGUE garnered serious coverage in outlets such as Spin, Stereogum and more.

  • Unexpected Trio HJ/ABC/HC100

This is my third time seeing Jones but this is his first time headlingthe show. You will like him if you are true fan of the 80's. Enjoyed some new arrangements to his oldies. Nick Beggs originally from Kajagoogoo is an amazing bass player with flamboyant showmanship. I was really for ABC. Fry still has it in him. Lots of oldies bringing back memories. Even forgot a few songs they had and I had that "oh yeah, that's ABC"moment. Haircut 100 was a pleasant surprise too. Even though they were a one hit wonder to me, apparently a lot of people know them very well. It was a great show with the trio of 80's memory.

  • Fantastic night of music

The opening act All hail the silence sounded great good energy and great songs. Second band was Men without hats it was good to see and hear them on stage again. Howard was fantastic a mix of his new material which sounds great and his old classics. He has not missed a beat loved it and as all good things it was over too soon.

  • Great Show

I'll admit I was a little worried that it was going to be an acoustic Howard Jones Show. He came out, sat at a piano and started out with a slow song that he admitted wasn't a big hit for him but after that the show rapidly picked up pace and was excellent. Great sound. Men Without Hats were a fun band to see.

  • Howard Jones - good on stage, avoid in person

by Sonsucontrols on 2018-07-17Phoenix Theater - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5

We paid for meet and greet after the show, he was irritated at the long line of fans and refused to sign autographs or engage. I suppose celebrities are best at a distance performing - up close we forget they're regular people and can be obnoxious as anyone. Also we waited standing 1.5 hr with a DJ playing recorded music before he showed up. Cover band would have been nice, punctuality & empathy nicer. As for the show, no real drums anymore, sax and other leads on guitar (you could hardly hear). Robbie Jones, Howards' son plays the synth backup, sometimes bass was too loud and distorted the woofers. Howard seemed to ignore Robbie, like nothing he did was good enough, wonder why ... Nice to hear retro stuff but I took back my records without a signature. Won't be attending another of his shows, recorded music is just fine.

He still sounds great and put on an excellent show. He played hit after hit and a few I didn't recall - all excellent. His band was solid. Good lighting and effects, too. Despite his invitation for people to come to the stage, the penile headed security spread his arms out blocking my path and yelled "NO!" and sent me back to my seat, like I was a child. Apparently everyone else was allowed as he gladly permitted pretty young ladies to go ahead.

Nice room. Most seats are on floor so sightlines can be blocked. But there are two large screens on the wall. Sound was not the clearest. Music was a bit muffled. Difficult to understand talking at times. Plenty of free parking. No unreasonable lineups or waiting.

  • howard jones was fantastic

    by shp2drop on 2016-06-02Woodbine Concert Hall - EtobicokeRating: 5 out of 5

The concert began with some of his knew songs off of his new album Engage. Then he played some older songs like LIKE TO GET TO KNOW YOU WELL and the crowd just got so into it and excited. It was great. Then the people from the very back section all moved forward into the front section. Howard Jones was so close. Everyone formed around him. It was awesome.

So cool, this concert. Howard Jones with just 2 other musicians put on such a fantastic show. Took binoculars not knowing how far I'd be ... so close to the stage, 20 feet away. Sometimes the crowd wouldn't let him sing - they wanted to :) No one is to blame, New Song, Like To get to know you well, new Engage album .. just awesome. Come back anytime, I'd attend
