    great show!

by clfe on 2010-11-23Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

This is a very lively and fun show, with a great story, unbelievable dancing like you've never seen before, and terrific singing. A great Broadway experience. Anyone can enjoy this show. My husband and I saw three Broadway shows over our long weekend in NYC and this was by far the most fun!

Cast performance good, new female lead first night excelled. Seats rather limited space. Theatre could use renovating. staff accomodating,. Orchestra bang on.

    High Energy did it!

by GBRU on 2010-10-24Keller Auditorium - Portland

This was day 4 of the Portland run and that might explain some empty seats. The cast, however, played full out and gave the audience their best. The set was imaginative and the lighting terrific. Unfortunately, the sound quality was not up to the task. There was a lack of clarity that in particular, caused Usnavy's patter hard to catch and since his is the main story driver, that hurt the impact for the audience. The actors for both love interests didn't show the development of the attractions - they sang about it, but didn't act it. On the other hand, the aunt, the salon characters and Unsnay's young brother were winning characters. The chorus dancers were accomplished, but too often the posing seemed articial - that's the director's issue. All in all, an enjoyable show, but one that didn't resolve into an emotional enough commitment to staying "in the heights."

It had it's moments but just seemed like a lot of whining.

    In The Heights a disappointment

by Whama on 2010-07-12Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

Maybe we're too old. The show has it's fans: it seemed like many in the audience had seen it before, however for us it was too many rap numbers, and there were no songs that remained in my mind after the show was over. I expected to see more dance numbers and hear more Latin music. The story was trite and predictable.

We generally see 4 - 6 broadway shows every year. This is one of the best we've seen in many years.

    Moving and intense experience

by mikeydeee on 2010-06-16Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

A wonderful story, terrific dancing, great acting, wonderful singing, all combine with a spirited cast to produce a theatre experience we will not forget for some time. At times we were breathless, at times teary eyed, at times sad, and alway we were engaged. My only suggestion is to sit back at least 4 rows from the stage to appreciate the overall flow of the play - we were a little close- yet, we came away raving and appreciating the opportunity to have seen In The Heights!
