I had lost the address to the theatre. Thankfully, a fine member of the NYPD helped me and my friend find it. He asked me to tell him how it went afterwards, but of course, NYC's a big place, so hopefully he'll read this one day!
I was worried about this show being one of the cheapest on Broadway ($40 tickets!) and people commenting on songs being in Spanish (I know only a few words). I was even more worried in the first 10 minutes of the show when I found it hard to understand what Usnavi was rapping about. HOWEVER. Things clear up soon after.
The music is incredible, the dancing is breathtaking, and the whole musical is absolutely wonderful. I enjoyed it immensely. The set is really realistic, I loved how you could see people in the background in their homes/work. The best part of the whole thing was the power of the singers voices and the latin dancing. Such a fun and heartwarming show. It's also not as formal as some shows I've been to before (no dress code) which made it even more fun and enjoyable.
Sure, if you understood Spanish it would probably be even better, but my friend, who doesn't have English (let alone Spanish) as her first language, enjoyed the show a lot too. As well, it was a nice surprise that I recognized Justina Machado who played Daniela. Watching a TV celebrity in real life? Awesome! (Great character too!)
Go see it!
