About

Jackson Browne has written and performed some of the most literate and moving songs in popular music and has defined a genre of songwriting charged with honesty, emotion and personal politics. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004 and the Songwriter's Hall of Fame in 2007.

Except for a brief period in NYC in the late 1960s, Jackson has always lived in Southern California. His debut album came out on David Geffen's Asylum Records in 1972. Since then, he has released fourteen studio albums, four collections of live performances, two "best of" compilations, two DVDs and several single recordings. Jackson's newest studio album, "Downhill From Everywhere" was released in July 2021 and GRAMMY nominated for Best Americana Album.

Browne is known for his advocacy on behalf of the environment, human rights, and arts education. He's a co-founder of the groups Musicians United for Safe Energy (MUSE) and Nukefree.org and a member of the Ocean advocacy group, Ocean Elders.

In 2002, he was the fourth recipient of the John Steinbeck Award, given to artists whose works exemplify the environmental and social values that were essential to the great California-born author. He has received Duke University's LEAF award for Lifetime Environmental Achievement in the Fine Arts, and both the Chapin-World Hunger Year and NARM Harry Chapin Humanitarian Awards. In 2004, Jackson was given an honorary Doctorate of Music by Occidental College in Los Angeles, for "a remarkable musical career that has successfully combined an intensely personal artistry with a broader vision of social justice."

    Jackson Browne......simply awesome!

by Dancer on 2009-07-09Casino Rama - Orillia

Still one of the best singers around. New band and back-up singers certainly added to the feel of the music....more bluesy. The two issues - 1) even though warned about bringing in camera's...still people did and got to stay....next time I'm bringing mine and 2) 90 minute concert certainly too short for the price of the tickets.

    Jackson Browne - Stay!

by Ricki on 2009-07-09Casino Rama - Orillia

The moment he came on stage I was whirled back in time. Jackson Browne's second show at Casino Rama was awash with memories and cuts from his newest album (CD!). His voice was pure and the band was tight. The two back-up singers, Chavonne Morris and Aletha Mills added a dimension to the sound which poured over the entire theatre directly into the heart of each and every fan. Jackson had been away for many years, but received a warm welcome when he walked onto stage. His fans had been waiting a long time for a Canadian visit and we were not disappointed. This concert was a joy from start to finish. The new songs were classic, their lyrics and melodies bringing his philosophy of life to the forefront. When he sang Fountain of Sorrow I thought my heart would break, because it sounded as it did the first time I ever heard it. We sat and listened to the Pretender. We danced and rocked to Running on Empty. It was great to have Jackson Browne back again. My only thought, as he ended the show, was "Jackson, please Stay!".

    Jackson Browne was awesome!!!!!

by Mick on 2009-07-09Casino Rama - Orillia

It was great to see Jackson Browne! He has a voice that brings back memories of a long lost friend, The show was unforgettable, Jackson was in fine form and his band was tight but his backup singers were phenominal!!!! I hope he comes back soon we'll be there! The only thing that I must mention... as we all get older, some of us are getting wider, and the floor seating was wayyyyyyy to close!!!!! So it would be great if you could ease the squeeze, and move the floor seats a bit further apart.

    Jackson Browne

by marg on 2009-07-09Casino Rama - Orillia

Overall I thought the concert was great. I saw Jackson Browne back in the late 70's in Toronto. I have always been a huge fan. The 2 girls he had singing with him blew me away. Their voices were a real compliment to the band and Jackson Browne's voice. The only slight disappointment I had was that he didn't play a lot of his older, very popular stuff. His voice has not changed one bit. He is truly a wonderful performer!!

    Jackson Browne a must see

by TheIceman on 2009-07-09Casino Rama - Orillia

Jackson Browne does not tour very much anymore, so when I saw that he was coming to Canada, I jumped right on the chance to see him. I have almost all his CDs and love his music. The only downside of the show (if you can say there was), was that in 1 hour and 45 minutes, he can only play so many songs. While I agree that "The Pretender" and "Doctor My Eyes" are great songs, there are so many others that I would like to hear. Of course people will cheer loudest because those may be the only songs that they know.

    blast from the past

by jpbandd on 2009-07-09Casino Rama - Orillia

The band took a while to get in sync, but we really enjoyed the back-up singers and lead guitarist ; Jackson Browne still has the voice, and we loved his ballads.....he didn't disappoint when he did the requisite signature encore.....

    Jackson Browne still has it.

by Torpedo on 2009-07-09Casino Rama - Orillia

It took about half a set to warm themselves up but at that point they were humming. It's difficult to be in front of an audience that wants to hear your older stuff when Jackson Browne had a lot to show us. You would have thought that this created a problem but he didn't let it get in the way.He did just that. He gave us some very good lyrics with exceptional playing by the band.

    A Songwriter for all time!

by TPOLFO on 2009-07-09Casino Rama - Orillia

As expected, JB delivered a fantastic concert experience for both longtime and newer fans. He played with his 15 year band and 2 newer and quite excellent backup singers. Browne played both older material,Doctor My Eyes, as well as newer hits from his Time, the Conqueror album.

What a great evening with good music. His touring band are great and the 2 back up singers are an awesome addition. It was worth the drive from Sudbury.

Jackson Browne at Casino Rama July 8 2009

by Dragonlady on 2009-07-09Casino Rama - Orillia

Last time I went to JB's concert was in 2004 in London, England. I was so happy that he made it to Ontario after such a long wait. He is forever so timeless, his voice is magical, dreamy, soothing...He never changes, still has the same handsome looks (and hair!) (aging seems escapes him), so talented, so down to earth, so elegant and classy in his own way, just a unique human being...At times, he charmed his audience with his enchanted smiles... Cannot ask for more from my favourite musician, he delivers every time without fail. Glad I went to the 2nd show, as he did do "Loadout/Stay" as the encore! So mesmerizing his performance was that I'm still savouring it! His band with the 2 lovely soulful ladies are just as perfect as JB. What a combination and what a night! Excellent choice of songs...Only wish it could be a bit longer but then I guess I can never get enough of him anyway! Hope he will be back to Toronto some time soon... Can't wait!

    Jackson Browne still going strong.

by DDDan on 2009-07-09Casino Rama - Orillia

Great show. He's still got it. His guitarist and back-up singers threatened to steal the show at times but Jackson's voice is just as sweet as ever. He didn't play all his hits but in fact played some new stuff that has me thinking I'll have to go out and buy the cd. That is why he's touring, right?

Jackson Browne still has the chops

by micmac on 2009-07-09Casino Rama - Orillia

Although I would have liked to hear more of his older music, specifically off of "Running On Empty" I was very impressed with the energy and quality of the show. Understanding no one ever gets to hear all the songs they would like. Vocals where excelent and the show was very personable

    Jackson Browne - outstanding !

by tervan on 2009-07-09Casino Rama - Orillia

Jackson Browne is the consummate professional. Not flashy, but personable, humorous and charming. His songwriting, of course, is great, and the guitar work from the band was incredible. Except for "Take It Easy" and "Somebody's Baby", they played all his great hits and then some. The 1 hour 45 minute concert was non-stop FUN !
