    Disappointing

by Mars50 on 2010-01-05Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

I was very excited to see this production at the Jubilee. Last time I attended it was at the Mayfield Dinner Theatre in Edmonton. The stage was smaller so I found the dancing constricted but at least there was dancing and aerials. I expected a much higher quality production at the Jubilee. Judas was excellent as well as Mary but, I'm sorry, Jesus ruined it for me. Yes, he hit the high notes but I believe it is time for a younger actor for the part. Now, maybe if I was in my usual balcony seat it would have been better for me, but front row seats enable you to see all expressions, and yes, ages of the actors. The constant mouthing to 'God' actually became irritating. Again, some of his vocal were impressive but I also feel that the stage could have been used more efficiently to get the emotional reaction I had when watching the movie. This was my most disappointing production I have seen thus far.

Made me want to go home and watch the movie.

by hallsinc on 2010-01-05Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

It is a bit of a stretch to see a 60's something Ted Neely playing a 33 year old Jesus Christ. That said, his old man voice made it through the night ok. Most of the cast does an excellent job on their singing parts. I also thought the stage sets could have showed more change up from scene to scene. All in all, my wife and I enjoyed the show. It did helped that we had great seats. I think if your a fan of the musical then you'll like the show.

Absolutely fantastic. It brought back a lot of special memories. I saw Jesus Christ Superstar when I was a young girl.

we're a little disappointed. I guess we expected too much for it. It could be better. Pontius Pilate is good, though.

By comparison to others I have seen it was just o.k. It wasn't very long and that was fine. I probably wouldn't have left but glad it wasn't longer than it was. The lead actor, acted his part well and the lead actress had an amazing voice. That's about all I can say about this except that I wouldn't go again and I would not recommend it to a friend.

    Jesus was in his 30's?

by scwtmom on 2010-01-04Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

With the young cast members, Ted Neeley stood out as an old, old man. He still can hit those high notes, but was not as believable as he was 30 years ago.

Couldn't get the songs out of my head

by ChanJud on 2010-01-04Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

Definitely sang the songs all day long.. still am today. I do have a few problems with the show though.. Well.. mostly with Jesus. I think jesus should retire. I feel that he didn't use emphasis where needed in terms of his songs And while he was getting the slashes.. he barely even moved.. it wasn't believable that it even hurt at all I feel that he should have acted more.. and moved more while singing.. it is after-all a performance Judas was wonderful

    Neeley still has it

by rosewood on 2010-01-04Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

I was so excited when this production came around again. When it was here two years ago...I found it very profound and I was not disapponted this time around either. The stage while simple was effective...we were there to listen to his story...not alot of glitz and bells and whistles...simple stage and costumes for a simple man. Ted Neeley is JC and my teen age daughter was very impressed with "grampa" Jesus's performance. And while I heard that this was to be his farewell tour...as I heard the same thing two years ago LOL...Ted Neeley still has an aura about him...he can still send shivers when belting out the high notes..as he did in the 70's The cast blended very nicely together...and it was a very enjoyable performance..and I was thrilled to get the t-shirt...something they did not have the last time they were here

A balding Jesus just doesn't cut it!

by Danco on 2010-01-04Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

I have to say that I was somewhat disappointed. I have the original motion picture and I guess that I was expecting Ted Neeley to look the same. Unfortunately, he has aged and it shows. Not only is he balding but his hair is thinning and it just doesn't work. I was surprised that he is still able to hit the high notes so that pleased me. The actor (Darrel R. Whitney) who played Caiaphas was distracting. His voice kept switching octaves and wasn't consistent. I did think that John Twiford (Judas Iscariot) did quite well and even the roll of Harod was amusing. It would seem that Jesus Christ Superstar should be shelved. I don't think that anyone will ever be able to portray the roll (musically) of Jesus as well as Ted Neeley has done in the past, but it is time to move on.

JC Superstar Was All Plus++ I Expected

by Anonymous on 2010-01-04Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

Went, without doing any research, simply because I had the original alblum and loved the music then. Enjoyed this very much! Having Ted Neeley play Jesus of Nazareth was a bonus I hadn't expected. I'd recommend this to anyone who enjoys musicals.

JCSS was a great performance. The performer who portrayed Judas was unbelievable and by far the highlight of the show.

    Loved Jesus Christ Superstar

by Eleven on 2010-01-04Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

Loved the whole show. Loved seeing Ted Neely, he can sure (still) sing and hit the high notes. Intermission was too long, about 23 minutes. Didn't appreciate the lady sitting beside me humming the songs. Overall, enjoyed it very much and would recommend it and see it again.

    Jesus Christ Superstar

by Shurel on 2010-01-04Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

Beyond my expectations. I attended the Musical in the early '70s and still have the vinyl recording of Jesus Christ Superstar. I was very excited to be attending and had my daughter and son-in-law attend as well. I am not sure if they get what a HUGE beyound words this production was. They will have something to compare to when they attend the next one in 30 years. The cast, the staging and direction was breath taking. I was very moved and totally involved in the production... What an inspiration and exciting event... Would have loved to see it all over again.....

    Jesus Christ Superstar

by Wildflower69 on 2010-01-04Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

I found that the roles that the characters played were closely related to the movie. The singing was phenomenal. The main star, Jesus, had a powerful voice, as well so did all the others. I would definately recommend this play to others who appreciate music and art!!!
