About

JOE SATRIANI IN CONCERT:

Joe Satriani’s virtuoso guitar playing is more than just flawless technique and blistering speed -- he also forms an emotional connection with fans that is beyond words. His genuine love of riff-based rock ensures that audiences are in for a sonic thrill ride at his live shows, where his nimble fingers and finely tuned ear bring his ballads to life. While “Satch” (as friends and fans refer to him) turns melodies inside out and shreds up a storm, his cast of astounding supporting musicians keeps the grooves solidly rocking throughout six-string stunners like “Surfing with the Alien”, “Satch Boogie”, and “Flying in a Blue Dream”.  Ticket buyers are in for a transcendent instrumental experience that can't be beat, featuring a brilliant musician in impeccable form.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

The highest-selling instrumental rock guitarist of all time, Joe Satriani was born in Westbury, NY in 1956. Before he gained fame, Satch made a living teaching some of the most influential guitarists of the ‘80s, including Kirk Hammett (Metallica), Steve Vai (David Lee Roth), and Larry LaLonde (Primus). His solo career took off with the hits “Always with Me, Always with You” and “Satch Boogie” off his 1987 album Surfing with the Alien. He kept his hot streak alive with his next two albums Flying in a Blue Dream (1988) and The Extremist (1992), which both went gold. In 1996 Satriani started the G3 Tour with friends Steve Vai and Eric Johnson to bring instrumental guitar music to the masses. In 2008 Satch joined forces with former Van Halen members Sammy Hagar (vocals), Michael Anthony (bass), and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith to create the supergroup Chickenfoot. While those projects keep him crazy busy, Satriani still continues to tour and record as a solo artist, releasing Unstoppable Momentum in 2013.

Joe Satriani and guests are exceptional musicians

by Anonymous on 2013-10-24Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

Was really looking forward to listening to some intricate soloing by Mr Satriani and friends. However, the sound was terrrible. I find it amazing in a room like the Jubilee to have to put up with a poor mix especially given the caliber of the artists performing. Over all volume was ridiculous (damn near ear shattering), there was no way to distinguish individual solos from the rest of the roar. Sadly, I have to say I was quite disappointed. This is no fault of the musicians I am quite sure their mix was fine. Bass guitar was just mud, foot pedal on the drums was simply ridiculous...and on, and on, and on. Never been to the Jubilee before when the sound was bad...ever!...why this time?

Unstoppable Momentum Just Keeps Getting Better!

by MotorheadosurusRex on 2013-10-22Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

Having never been to The Jubilee Coliseum before, I was anxious to hear the "incredible sound" I had heard so much about from others who had been here before. What better way to end this anticipation then to experience a Joe Satriani performance! Anyone who left disappointed was obviously someone hard to impress! For much of the show, Joe and his new ensemble of musicians stayed true to promoting the most recent album, "Unstoppable Momentum" by playing well over half of the album's titles. Along with these new titles, we were also re-visited with the favorites, such as: "Satch Boogie"; "Surfing With The Alien" and "Ice #9" and more. Joe didn't do much banter talking and monologue's between song's, yet when he did it was a "Thank you" to us for "letting us come back and play for you again". The audience seemed to be a sold out show and from where I was, there wasn't a bad seat in the house! The musicianship was solid and tight like they had been together for many years. There was one moment where it seemed like they couldn't get out of the song's finale...and jammed it until they reached those corresponding notes on bass and guitars, smiling and nodding like nothing had happened. But it does happen and that is what makes rock and roll so powerful and REAL! All of the hype I had heard or read in the past about SAIT's Jubilee Auditorium were finally laid to rest for me. The sound is truly incredible, precise and it is beautiful architecture to be enveloped in!

by Oilfan2009 on 2013-10-21Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

I have been a fan of Joe's since the 80's and finally got my first chance to see him "live" in Edmonton. Well worth the $ to see this guitar wizard. I am already saving the shackles to attend the next show he puts on in E-Town!

    Satriani

by ProgressiveMan on 2013-10-21Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

Excellent performance. The new album is more progressive than ever. The band adds more to the whole music. The negative comment is that Ticketmaster announced the event as "Satriani and Guest: Steve Morse" but Steve Morse was not there. Ticketmaster should be more careful next time.

Joe Satriani - Channeling The Power Cosmic!

by Lestato on 2013-10-20Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

You get a lot of stuff with Joe. The difference between him and a lot of what's out there is you get it with honesty, heaps of tone, and a whole lot of style! I get a sense that when Joe is playing his guitar he's in touch with the creative force that runs thru the entire universe and everything in it-The Power Cosmic! I love this mans music! "Unstoppable Momentum" is his best album in years and the show at the "Jub" was amazing! One criticism because that's what a review is for-honest criticism-is that he didn't bring Steve Morse along to open for him as he did on the US dates of his tour. If you are a fan of music you must see Joe perform live;you will not be disappointed.

    Hey Joe

by Reniks on 2013-10-20Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

The concert was fantastic. Even Jimmy Hendricks would be saying "Hey Joe" you make me look like a busker. As a guitar player and long time fan, I felt like a 15 year girl at a Beatles concert, sitting there watching Joe play. Tears running down my face, with emotion. Loved the way the whole band seemed really into it and fresh. The venue was excellent. All in all a really class act.

    The momentum was unstoppable

by chickentool on 2013-10-20Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

Joe up to fine form , always delivers with flavour for any audience . If you have never seen the "Satch " in concert , don't hesitate to see him and his fine crew. Nice back up crew of talented artist. Gordy Johnson , what are you thinking? Seen you many a time with Big Sugar and Grady , but this was a disappointment to say the least. Trying to be a "one man band " might be a bit too much. Stick to your wide body Les Paul.

    Mind Blowing

by robyanne on 2013-10-19Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

He blew my mind! And he wasn't even sweating! He got the crowd involved in almost every song! The opening band wasn't terribly great. Joe had some top notch musicians with him who knew how to put on a show! A memorable part of the show was the amazing drum solo! Easily one of my favourite concerts!
