About

JOE SATRIANI IN CONCERT:

Joe Satriani’s virtuoso guitar playing is more than just flawless technique and blistering speed -- he also forms an emotional connection with fans that is beyond words. His genuine love of riff-based rock ensures that audiences are in for a sonic thrill ride at his live shows, where his nimble fingers and finely tuned ear bring his ballads to life. While “Satch” (as friends and fans refer to him) turns melodies inside out and shreds up a storm, his cast of astounding supporting musicians keeps the grooves solidly rocking throughout six-string stunners like “Surfing with the Alien”, “Satch Boogie”, and “Flying in a Blue Dream”.  Ticket buyers are in for a transcendent instrumental experience that can't be beat, featuring a brilliant musician in impeccable form.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

The highest-selling instrumental rock guitarist of all time, Joe Satriani was born in Westbury, NY in 1956. Before he gained fame, Satch made a living teaching some of the most influential guitarists of the ‘80s, including Kirk Hammett (Metallica), Steve Vai (David Lee Roth), and Larry LaLonde (Primus). His solo career took off with the hits “Always with Me, Always with You” and “Satch Boogie” off his 1987 album Surfing with the Alien. He kept his hot streak alive with his next two albums Flying in a Blue Dream (1988) and The Extremist (1992), which both went gold. In 1996 Satriani started the G3 Tour with friends Steve Vai and Eric Johnson to bring instrumental guitar music to the masses. In 2008 Satch joined forces with former Van Halen members Sammy Hagar (vocals), Michael Anthony (bass), and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith to create the supergroup Chickenfoot. While those projects keep him crazy busy, Satriani still continues to tour and record as a solo artist, releasing Unstoppable Momentum in 2013.

    Face-melting!

by halfstack on 2013-10-19Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

Third time seeing Satch live and he never disappoints. Minnemann, Beller and Keneally have a history together and it shows in the fun, congenial vibe through the entire set.

    my body is still vibrating

by kipp on 2013-10-19Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

Maybe is was the area we were sitting (TOP) but I couldn't imagine what the people below were experiencing. After a few riffs it all starts to sound the same it was so loud my body was shaking. I am 55 and went with my 2 adult sons . They were excited to go remembering when they were teens and had a band they often heard of (JOE) but they were not that impressed we left after an hour and a half :(

I've seen Joe perform 3 times now, and each show is better than the last. It was definitely worth the road this to catch him this time.

Satriani and band at the Burton Cummings Theatre

by winnipegjoe on 2013-10-18Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

First, the bad. I only gave this 4 stars for the soundmix. WAY too bass heavy, and for much of the time I was straining to hear Joe and Mike Keneally. (I was second level balcony) Having said that, the band was so tight, and performed a healthy amount of tunes... Joe worked magic on his guitar and Mike Keneally was a fantastic surprise for me. Awesome job! The drummer was exceptional also. I will be a little more reserved on the bassist as I couldn't hear him in the mud. I could not believe he played my 2 most favourite tunes of his (considering all the music he has). "Flying in a Blue Dream" and "Crush of Love". So fantastic, very memorable guitar hooks. Keep it up Joe and all!!

    Unstoppable Joe!

by Shandi on 2013-10-17Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

The show was amazing!!! Joe was in top form!! It's a pleasure to watch someone who so enjoys what he does, and is so very very good at it! He was very gracious to everyone at the meet and greet and I actually got to touch one of his guitars! One of the high points of the show was his drummer's solo. It was like Joe, amazing! He had such fun and was very entertaining!!

    Joe still has it!

by Joefan2013 on 2013-10-11National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I commented to the man I was seated by that I thought that Satriani had mellowed out too much. The opening song 'Jumping in' left no question that I was dead wrong. He shredded and played beautifully. Joe's tone was impeccable. He made his marshall's roar and purr. The supporting band was also great.

    Satriani was phenominal.

by Caraid on 2013-10-11National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

In a word, "Awesome!" There are very few people in the world who can deliver a performance on the electric guitar in the way that Joe Satriani can deliver. Thanks to Ticketmaster and to the NAC for an unforgettable concert.

    Unbelievable Momentum!

by Motordave on 2013-10-11National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I have seen A LOT of shows in my time but this one takes the cake. Big time. Satriani was unbelievable live. I never thought he would be able to play so tightly. I am happy to stand corrected! It was amazing to see. The whole band played so incredibly well. True professionals on all counts with added wizardry for good measure. I'm so glad I was able to go!

    Mr. Satriani...the modern era KING!

by theglassdude on 2011-07-28Casino Rama - Orillia

If you haven't seen this guy play guitar...you are really missing a stellar show. I've seen him at least 4 or 5 times now and I can't wait for the next tour. He is so blindly fast and makes it look too easy. I would love to learn to play the guitar and to be only half as a good as him would suit me just fine. If you like rock and heavy metal.. and none of the distracting lyrics ....you must see this man LIVE!

    Brilliant guitar, but muddy sound

by shrikemare on 2011-07-19Casino Rama - Orillia

Wow, who needs singing when you can make a guitar sound like that! Some older, some newer selections and I enjoyed them all. Joe plays that wild stuff, but looks utterly relaxed and may just have been having a little fun. The sound was troublesome: One heard mostly bass guitar and drums. When Joe was playing complex stuff on anything but the high strings, it got mostly lost. Perhaps the sound was better balanced elsewhere, but in row 17 it was muddy.

I was glad that I had kleenex in my purse that I could stuff in my ears! Because it was really loud! Amazing guitarist!
