About

JOE SATRIANI IN CONCERT:

Joe Satriani’s virtuoso guitar playing is more than just flawless technique and blistering speed -- he also forms an emotional connection with fans that is beyond words. His genuine love of riff-based rock ensures that audiences are in for a sonic thrill ride at his live shows, where his nimble fingers and finely tuned ear bring his ballads to life. While “Satch” (as friends and fans refer to him) turns melodies inside out and shreds up a storm, his cast of astounding supporting musicians keeps the grooves solidly rocking throughout six-string stunners like “Surfing with the Alien”, “Satch Boogie”, and “Flying in a Blue Dream”.  Ticket buyers are in for a transcendent instrumental experience that can't be beat, featuring a brilliant musician in impeccable form.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

The highest-selling instrumental rock guitarist of all time, Joe Satriani was born in Westbury, NY in 1956. Before he gained fame, Satch made a living teaching some of the most influential guitarists of the ‘80s, including Kirk Hammett (Metallica), Steve Vai (David Lee Roth), and Larry LaLonde (Primus). His solo career took off with the hits “Always with Me, Always with You” and “Satch Boogie” off his 1987 album Surfing with the Alien. He kept his hot streak alive with his next two albums Flying in a Blue Dream (1988) and The Extremist (1992), which both went gold. In 1996 Satriani started the G3 Tour with friends Steve Vai and Eric Johnson to bring instrumental guitar music to the masses. In 2008 Satch joined forces with former Van Halen members Sammy Hagar (vocals), Michael Anthony (bass), and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith to create the supergroup Chickenfoot. While those projects keep him crazy busy, Satriani still continues to tour and record as a solo artist, releasing Unstoppable Momentum in 2013.

Ice Crushing in a happy birthday!

by Cebola on 2011-07-18Casino Rama - Orillia

I saw Joe for the first time 20 years ago when he still had a lot of hair and time does make a difference, not only physically but also technically. This guitar "virtuoso" has clearly mastered key elements on his entire music lineage making his style unarguably unique and his technique surpasses any known guitarist that I have ever heard. I just don't know how he can keep up with the same motivation and intensity without breaking the cords or the rhythm in a non-stop exhibition of heart (him) and soul (his guitar). A cadence that mimics two as one, not to mention the other excellent musicians on his band, specially his bass guitar man, Allen Whitman. I had bought an extra ticket for a friend who did not show in the last minute but you made me forget about the money. It was well worth it. Besides it was my birthday gift for you....Congratulations, Joe!!!

    Rockin' Rama

by ZepperFan on 2011-07-18Casino Rama - Orillia

Joe Satriani put on a great show on Friday night and was clearly going out on a limb when he accepted the invite to play at Rama as it was a new venue for him in the middle of no where but he quickly expressed his enjoyment with the venue, saying "We gotta come back here for sure". Can't wait ......... The guy is a true guitar genius but more he REALLY enjoys playing live and it shows big time !!! If you like guitar players, really good ones who can make a guitar do all sorts of things you've never heard one do before, you gotta check this guy out. Sometimes soulful and sometimes satuating but always amazing !!!

He is so talented you have to see it live to grasp how amazing he can play. His band is also unbeleivable. A great time and a diverse crowd.

    Amazing but monotaneous

by Turfdaddy on 2011-07-17Casino Rama - Orillia

Satriani is an unbelievable talent , technically brilliant , innovative and a great showman. Problem is after a while everything starts to sound the same. After about 45 minutes I was ready to go and it seems a large part of the audience felt the same way as they headed for the Casino. In fairness it tended to be the older women in the crowd whose husbands were still rockin to Joe. The wannabe gutiar wizards were all over the stage and loved every minute. I was disappointed he didn't play Big Bad Moon which was the one song I wanted to hear. Overall the for the money it was a good show , it would be better if he mixed in some vocals , either his or find a singer. I saw him at Massey Hall 10 years ago and that show was significantly better. Satriani , is a great talent , virtuoso comes to mind but he needs to polish the show and add some vocals to really let his talent shine.

    Joe does it again!

by hiboudolly on 2011-07-17Casino Rama - Orillia

The show was great! The song selection was super! It was Joe's birthday and I think he appreciated our enthusiasm. What I liked about seeing him at Casino Rama is that they allow you to go right up to the stage and that is where I parked myself. I was in front of a monitor so when he came over to the side that I was on, he was literally 2 feet away. It made the show seem so much more interactive. He did not bring his rythym guitarist but no matter, they rocked the house!! Can't wait for the next time he passes through!

    by One1 on 2011-07-17Casino Rama - Orillia

The casinorama show was excellent. He added Collosus to his repertoire which was an improvement from his last show. We celebrated Joe Satriani's birthday and my friend and brother said I got them excellent tickets. He played close to 2 hours and it was time well spent

    Joe Satriani

by StyxChix on 2011-07-17Casino Rama - Orillia

Joe is, I believe, foremost in his field and puts on a tremendous show. The one complaint I have is that he never sang during the whole show. Although I love guitar solo's ..... 1 1/2 hrs of it is a bit too much for my tastes. The songs started to "run" together after a while and I found myself loosing interest. If you know his music well and have several of his albums, you would probably love the show. The other complaint would be the VOLUME .. way way TOO LOUD. I find so many people equate REALLY LOUD with "really great". My experience at concerts suggests otherwise.

Joe Satriani - well, you know what you came for!

by Longshot421 on 2011-02-17Jubilee Auditorium Northern Alberta - Edmonton

Anyone who goes to see Joe Satriani goes for one thing - guitar playing mania. You got that in spades, there is no guitar player like him. His sense of melody, his technical ability, his variety of styles; all of it make Joe a phenomenom to behold. I expected great (my first time seeing him) and he went well beyond expectations. The surprise for me was the keyboard player accompanying him, who appeared to be having just the best time on stage, and as a musician, I have to say that when the guys on stage are having fun, the show is that much better. Great performance all round, throroughly enjoyed it. You have to be aware though, when you go to a Joe Show, you're getting A LOT of guitar. A LOT. Like TONS. If you're not into basically a 2 hour guitar solo (no matter how jaw-droppingly amazing it might be), this is not the show for you. Luckily, I'm *totally* into 2 hour guitar solos, so I thought it was fantastic.

    Joe Satriani

by keycom on 2011-01-10Kelowna Community Theatre - Kelowna

Hmmm... If you love Joe, and know his stuff (I do), then it was what could be considered a typical Joe concert. Lots of bombastic, electric guitar sounds from another planet, etc. Definitely considered a guitar virtuoso/ wiz - he does deliver that. If you were looking for a great overall concert experience, then I feel it left a lot to be desired. One sound level only-loud- then, at least four times during the night, turned up louder still. I have worked on sound management on large stages before, and most of the instruments that night were overdriven - there were only a few spots in the Kelowna Community Theatre that were acceptable. Must it be set at eleven, then push it to fifteen? Also, Joe has maybe one and a half ballads in his repertoire, and, even those were played at max level - no subtle nuances or dynamics to be found, which is a shame, as he spent years mastering those scales and modes, supposedly for the purpose of someone hearing them clearly. Nary a woman in sight; they must have had advance notice that the aural assault was forthcoming. Unlike the Zep or Kiss, you will not find any heartfelt, tender moments; there is nothing to inspire your honey to get any closer to you, after being drowned in a forty five gallon drum of testosterone.

    My first Satch show

by FamilyGuy2011 on 2011-01-10Kelowna Community Theatre - Kelowna, BC

I am a new fan (I know that's unusual) and this was my first time seeing Joe in concert. I would go again. Everyone knows he is a great guitar player, but he is so much more than a shredder. Great entertainment value. Now I have a lot of catching up to do with his CD's.

    Talent is not an option!

by Ticketed on 2011-01-09Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Joe shows why is an acclaimed guitarist that is seeked out by people of all walks of like. Whether you wear a bikers t-shirt and jeans, Kaki's and a leather jacket or a beat up jean jacket with a beanie to hide your long-graying hair there is no stereo type of audience member that doesn't fit in. The musical talent put on display makes for a diverse crowd that unknowingly bobs their heads together without planning it. Its a minor visual sign that is a testament to the performance. Joe was fantastic, yet humble in ensuring that he intro'd his other band members. My ONLY complaint, was the poorly run visual effects on the 3 panel screen in the background. Whether there was a technical problem that didn't allow them to work in the first 4 or 5 songs, I'm not sure... but when they did come alive, the dissappointing graphics and general effort made me prefer that they hadn't been activated at all. Thankfully, the guitar is the star and it was still more than enough to carry the evening. Tickets were well worth it! Already waiting patiently for next time.

When "Surfing With The Alien" hit the stores it was unbelievable. When he plays his earlier stuff now, I don't think it is even a warm up for him. Fantastic guitarist!

    Joe was absolutely amazing!

by Coldplayfan36 on 2011-01-08Kelowna Community Theatre - Kelowna

The concert was delayed a bit due to the band arriving late, darn Canadian winter, but all was forgiven once the opening act started to play. Dave Martone and his two band mates were most excellent. My husband and I had the extreme pleasure of having front row seats which allowed us to really see how absolutely talented these musicians truly are. Most of the concert i was watching in awe, Joe Satriani and his uber talented band making their instruments sound impossibly perfect. How do they move their pinkies that fast? These guys make it look so effortless and for anyone who has ever picked up a guitar and tried to play knows that how they play has to be a god given talent, beyond super human, just plain awesome. I loved every second of Joe Satriani, thank you, and I hope they enjoyed the pizza.

The man obviously loves his work from the smile on his face while he performed. Pure energy pour into his guitar and out into the crowd. Great venue hope to see more of it's type!
