    Outstanding Show

by DRVTO on 2016-11-07The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

I am a long time fan of John Prine and it was just great to attend his concert in Chicago. Although his voice reflects the effects of his health issues it was strong enough to send shivers down your spine as he performed any of my favourite songs. The band was sensational and the Chicago Theatre is a must see/hear for every concert fan. Tied for first among my favourite concerts. Just GREAT!!

    John Prine was awesome.

by Lilabugins on 2016-09-13Hamilton Place Theatre - Hamilton

What a show. Ron Sexsmith opened the show and was enjoyable. John took the stage and absolutely lived up to expectations....no he far surpassed them. He performed for a solid 2 hours straight. His voice was amazing. He performed with a surprising level of energy. We love his little anecdotes he throws in. Show was perfect.

John is such a humble and likeable guy! Great Show

by BeaHaven on 2016-09-13Hamilton Place Theatre - Hamilton

I've been wanting to go to a Prine concert for the past 35 years and see the guy up front and personal. He never did a lot of the songs I would have wanted to hear but it would have taken 3 shows for that to happen. If he ever comes back to Hamilton I'd see him again but I really want seats much closer to the stage and I would scream out the song I really really really want him to sing "BLOW UP THE TV, EAT ALOT OF PEACHES!". lol My son who never heard of him came with me because I had an extra ticket after my friend had to cancel and he thanked me and said Wow, that guy is just something else Mom ... such a talented songwriter .... thanks for taking me!.

    Best ever performance!!!

by Mntrlover on 2016-09-13Hamilton Place Theatre - Hamilton

John Prine. Absolutely the best. His voice was strong, his guitar playing amazing. His band was outstanding. His playlist mixed old and new tunes, with some story telling in between songs. This is the 4th time I've seen him, and it was by far the best yet. Ron Sexsmith joined him on stage for a few songs at the end of the show, and they sounded great and were fun to watch. This show will go down in history as my favourite concert ever. I feel so lucky to have been present for this show. If you ever have a chance, go see the man!

Awesome concert and fabulous venue. John Prine is no longer in his prime but he is the consumate professional. Put on a great show and gave his fans exactly what they wanted. Jason Isbell is very talented and I would pay to see him again as well.

Memorable Evening, beautiful melodies & stories

by JohnPrineGroupie on 2013-09-10Beacon Theatre - New York

The atmosphere was full of eager fans, awaiting patiently to hear all of our favourite stories and songs, and ballads. No one else has quite the way with words that this great performer loves to share, and no matter how many times we listen attentively, we always thirst for more. My only regrets are that we didn't have enough time with John Prine or Roseanne Cash. The venue was beautiful, and the acoustics were smooth and clear. I will be watching again for when either of these performers to come anywhere within a 500 mile radius....as it is a privilege to be part of their audience. My husband and I have been fans of Prine since he appeared at Ontario Place, Toronto in the 70's, cause there is just nobody else like him.

    Wouldn't miss John Prine!

by kingscrib on 2012-06-15The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

Dustin Bentall & Kendel Carson opened for John Prine! I wasn't surprised because John always brings amazing new artists with him on tour. His decision to have Vancouver's own Dustin & Kendel open was genius. For people who are longtime John Prine fans, it's no surprise that he is very gracious about sharing stage with so many 'newbies'. Kendel & Dustin were a delight. It was a 'first listen' for us, and they exceeded expectations. It was a little difficult to hear at times, because their miking favored Kendel's vocals & her incredible fiddle playing. But overall it was great! John was his usual affable self. But the big surprise was rolling out most of his songs from early in his career! Many people who haven't been in his fan base fom the beginning (1972) may have heard songs he hadn't played since then. Especially after his throat cancer surgery...where his vocal ranged changed so much he once told the audience having to re-key to suit his lower range "was like hearing them for the first time". sic There were some bitter sweet moments, especially when he paid tribute to his brother Douglas by singing "Souvenirs". It's one of my favourites, in part because his recording of it paired him with longtime pal Steve Goodman who died back in 1984 from leukemia. A few tears rolled (from me anyway). If you've ever heard "The Bottomless Lake" you know how special his brothers, mother & dad are to John. But there were plenty of moments to sing along, laugh, and wonder at this man whose career is in it's 40th year and still well worth a listen live! I wouldn't miss the chance. It was a wonderful concert. Totally worth the trip into town! John Prine - gotta love him!

John Prine was as good as I expected.

by ubcdbaker on 2012-06-11The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

This was my first time to see John Prine in concert, though I have been listening to his music for years. I was particularly impressed with his guitar playing. I hadn't realized that many of the best guitar licks on his songs were by him, not by supporting members of his band. My only complaint would be that he didn't have time to sing all of the great songs he has written and recorded over the years.

    Vancouver 2012

by Rawsput on 2012-05-07Centre fpr Performing Arts - Vancouver, BC

We saw John at the Centre in Vancouver in Oct/09 and again last night, May/12. He is my absolute favorite singer/songwriter/guitarist/poet/humorist, so any review I post would be biased. To compare both shows, the noticable difference would be that in 09 he was promoting "Fair and Square" & "In Person & On Stage", both terrific albums of his new material, with a nice mix of classic JP in the live show and album. The 2012 show was almost 100% older material, which I did appreciate as a life long fan. The only newer song on this tour would have been In Spite of Ourselves in duet with warm-up singer Kendal Carson. It was a very full and enjoyable 2 hours + encore. If any complaint, I would have liked to heard some of the newer songs such as Mexican Home, Foley's Clay Pigeons, Crazy as a Loon. With his extensive reportoire of 50 years of great songs it would be impossible to satisfy everyone.
