    John Prine/Ani Difranco were unforgettable

by douglasgj on 2011-09-11Chateau Ste Michelle Winery - Woodinville

With little 'fanfare' Ani arrived on stage and for the next 45 minutes delighted and enchanted the audience with thoughtful and powerful songs punctuated by bombastic guitar playing. Her guitar playing abilities were a surprise. I considered her a great song writer; her guitar playing was superb. Then John Prine arrived with a great bassist and guitar player. His stage presence, story-telling and quality of songs were so wonderful; from laughter to tears. He allows the audience to run the gamut. It is too bad that alcohol was such a negative part of this concert for me. Some 'boorish' drinkers became very loud ie constantly requested songs, claimed love for John too often, sang loudly and poorly along with quiet gentle ballads and talked loudly during his singing etc..... It was very frustrating.

    Simply the Best!!!

by prinefanforever on 2010-09-28Orpheum Theatre - Minneapolis

I've seen John Prine a bunch of times and I am simply blown away each and every show. He always has a great opener - this time it was Pieta Brown - and then comes out and puts on a great show himself. Mixing up the set list with old classics and some new stuff (even Space Monkeys which I've never seen on a set list), faster and slower tunes, featuring the Jaques and Wilbur, he shows what a master he is - not only of songwriting but of live shows.

    A trip to remember

by CanadianGirl64 on 2010-05-12Koka Booth Amphitheatre At Regency Park - Cary

We flew from Vancouver, Canada to see John Prine and OCMS and it was well worth the long trip. We've seen both before in San Fran and had to see them again. Koka Booth didn't disappoint. We'd heard it was an amazing outdoor venue (the likes of which we don't have at home), and it lived up to its reputation. It was a hot sunny evening, and it was great to sit and listen to Old Crow in the warm air, and then have the sun go down and the cool breeze pick up for John Prine's set. Both played for over 90 mins, and we really felt we got two full sets and great value for our ticket dollars.

John Prine - A Truly Beloved Artist

by RandyNoonan on 2009-12-14House of Blues New Orleans - New Orleans

Remarkably, John Prine is not a household name – remarkable because there are few singer-songwriter-musicians who are anywhere nearly as beloved by their fans as John Prine. On December 12, 2009, Prine played his last concert of the year in the jam-packed, standing room only, House of Blues in New Orleans’ French Quarter. While standing for 5 hours is definitely less comfortable than sitting, after some initial grumbling, the energy created by an enthusiastic crowd on its feet was unprecedented. As always, Prine delivered a spectacular performance, playing without a break for more than 2 ½ hours. From his early, cleverly witty material like “Dear Abby,” to heart wrenching ballads like “Hello in There,” rounded out with his foot-stomping “Standing by Peaceful Waters,” Prine, in his unique style, recited the people’s poetry. Prine loves word-play and is a master of the metaphor (“There’s a hole in daddy’s arm where all the money goes”) and striking juxtapositions (“Broken hearts and dirty windows make life difficult to see”). My hope is that John Prine’s music will live on to be adopted by generations to come long after Prine stops touring and making new music. In the meantime, if you haven’t heard John Prine’s music or seen him perform, find out where he’s playing near or far and just get yourself there. He is a priceless treasure who, like all of us, won’t be around forever.

John Prine, well worth waiting for !!

by tttt on 2009-10-26Pantages Playhouse Theatre - Winnipeg

I have waited soooo long to see John Prine in person - and it was well worth the wait. I have been a fan for more years than I care to remember. It was awesome that I was able to share the moment with friends and 2 of my siblings. Sarah Watkins was also amazing.

    John Prine unforgettable

by justmarried on 2009-10-25Pantages Playhouse Theatre - Winnipeg

We drove 400 km to hear John Prine. I had seen him in concert once before in Saskatoon. Winnipeg was the first time for my wife. He's written a lot more songs since the 80's and time would not have permitted for him to play them all. But I was pleased at how many he did sing in the two hours he played with out a break. He showed lots wit and humour (read fan mail to audience) and worked well with his band. It felt good to be entertained by this singer/song writer who is still going strong at the age of 60. I'd see him again with the hope that I'd hear the songs he didn't play this time.

    John Prine like fine wine

by yardape on 2009-10-25Pantages Playhouse Theatre - Winnipeg

Great show. Took a couple of songs for his voice to warm up, but after that, the sound was back. Played a lot of the classics, chatted a little, sent the crowd home happy. Very good opening act.

    Prime Prine!

by Twitchy on 2009-10-24Pantages Playhouse Theatre - Winnipeg

John Prine was in excellent form last night in Winnipeg. We have followed Prine since 1970 when my husband found his album in Tower Records in LA. He had read a quote from Kris Kristofferson stating that "there is this mailman from Chicago that writes great songs". My sons grew up listening to & singing John Prine songs. His voice is strong and his backup musicians were awesome. His lyrics today still carry an incredible impact. I hope that he will continue to perform and I look forward to his next show!

John Prine Still got some magic

by lukewarmwater on 2009-10-24Pantages Playhouse Theatre - Winnipeg

Hard working and still got some magic, John Pine still singing well at this stage in his long career. Lots of todays newer performers can learn a little about giving you your money's worth and actually appreciating an audience.Simple ,warm and wonderful, the man is a Gem.

John was the ultimate gentleman. From the heckling audience members who just wanted to be heard he did not let it phase him. A fine performer who just gave a teaser and went straight into song. We laughed, we cried. He spoke of res-erecting songs from retirement still speaking of the war and why men die. To his commitment to God. And the ultimate closer...Paradise about man's destruction of the land and the lack of accountability. Always the committed satirist and a committed performer. He has seemed to have cleaned up his monkeys and put on a hell of a show.
