About

Journey is a multi-platinum-selling rock band from San Francisco, California. Originally formed by former members of Santana, the Steve Miller Band and Frumious Bandersnatch, the band’s current lineup includes guitarist and backing vocalist Neal Schon, lead vocalist Arnel Pineda, keyboardist and guitarist Jonathan Cain, keyboardist Jason Derlatka, bassist Todd Jensen and drummer Deen Castronovo. After releasing a few albums — including their self-titled 1975 debut — throughout the early ‘70s, Journey reached a new height of commercial success on the charts with Infinity (1978), Evolution (1979) and Departure (1980), all of which were certified multi-platinum in the U.S. The band earned their first chart-topping album in 1981 with Escape, which also yielded massive hits like “Don’t Stop Believing” and “Open Arms.” Over the decades, Journey has continued to release studio albums and tour the world as one of the best-selling rock acts in music history, with their most recent album, Freedom, released in 2022.

    My wife and I attended the Journey concert at the CT Centre. We were in the 3rd level. The show by TOTO was good and nostalgic. Once Journey started some people seated just behind us were talking loudly the whole time. I understand it is a "Rock 'n Roll" concert which is loud and will cover many annoying sounds but these guys were making it difficult to hear and enjoy the show. A few times I or my wife asked the guys to keep it down, with no luck. Unknown to us one of the CT staff noticed our issues with the people behind us. They came and asked if we were being bothered, which we said we were. Several minutes later the staff person returned and the noisy folks were ushered away. Then another few minutes later the staff member returned and gave us complimentary tickets to the 100 level of the arena. We thanked the staff member and we moved to our new seats. They were off to one side of the stage but the sound was actually better, and better sight lines. Our enormous thanks to the CT centre staff for making the second half of our evening much better than the first half. WELL DONE!

    I have never been a huge Journey fan as I'm a classic rock guy from the 70's. But I am now. Why? 3 words: Neal Fuckin Schon! I had no idea he was this good as he absolutely blew me away and took me on a journey. Not to take anything away from the rest of the band as they are extremely polished musicians with great chemistry. Arnell is one of the best singers I have ever heard live. If Neal comes to town again in any sharp or form I'm in.

    I know I know, they aren't; but there was something very mechanical about this show right down to the dry finish, houselights up and no sign of an encore (though, the crowd wasn't exactly screaming for one ether). Given 50 years of material, one would think they could add a little something at the end to make each appearance special. The solo performance by Neil Schon, and the commentary and solo from Jonathan Cain were by far the highlights of the show (well, for me). Toto opening was fun and dynamic. It is easy to see, even from the 100$ seats, when a band is having fun and enjoyed playing the concert. Need to add that it was either the stadium or the setup, but sound quality was not optimal.

    I have no complaints about ToTo. They nailed it and was a pleasure to watch. Journey was a little disappointing. Hit songs could have been done a little better. Sing it like we want to hear it, don’t try and redo a classic to make it your own. No lasers or really any kind of stage show. No encore was a bummer. Never in my life have I ever been to a concert where they didn’t come back for an encore

    Great show all around. To my surprise, even though I went mainly for Journey, Toto stole the show. More specifically Steve Lukather (guitarist). What a performance!
