About

JULY TALK IN CONCERT:

Canadian indie outfit July Talk is quickly rising the ranks with their blues-meets-pop sound and the engaging vocal interplay of dual lead singers Peter Dreimanis and Leah Fay. Dreimanis' husky growl is the perfect counterpoint to Fay's demure purr, and the duo play up the he-said-she-said drama with tongue-in-cheek lyrical bickering and amicable play-fighting on stage. Whether they're sending each other up on "Paper Girl" or rocking hard on "Summer Dress", the dynamic pair are the perfect front to the band's potent blend of indie, pop, and good old fashioned rock and roll.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

July Talk formed in Toronto in 2012 after smoky-voiced musician Peter Dreimanis overheard the angelic Leah Fay singing in a bar. She instantly became his muse, and together they assembled a band that complemented their strikingly different singing styles. July Talk released their self-titled debut album that same year, impressing critics with their robust blues-inspired sound and the playful vocal exchange of Dreimanis and Fay. In 2013 the band toured with big-name acts like Weezer and Tegan and Sara, wowing audiences with their vibrant energy and showmanship. Additional performances at festivals like Rock the Park London and the Toronto Urban Roots Festival helped cement their reputation as a must-see live act, setting big expectations for their sophomore album and accompanying tour.

    July Talk Ottawa

by K. B. on 2023-04-13National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

The venue was too small for the powerful sound of the band. I thoroughly enjoy July Talk's music but found the concert was so loud I couldn't hear the words clearly, the drum was too loud. Lighting and background effects were blah. maybe I'm just old :)

    Crown Lands deserved top billing

by K. on 2023-04-12London Music Hall - London

Crown Lands was the best part of the show, and that's not an understatement. If you get the chance, please see Crown Lands. They're a phenomenal prog rock duo. Cody's vocals are insane, and the combined musicianship is mind-blowing. This concert was my introduction to July Talk, and I wasn't a fan. There was (maybe) 3 songs that didn't sound like every other song in the set. They relied on brainless, short, looping videos as their visuals. My mind was numb through the whole set. They're a serviceable, entry-level pop-rock band, but I can't get into them. They're very sweet people, but god damn, I wasn't prepared to see what happens when tumblr sprouts legs and forms a band.

    This was a bad show

by Mayson on 2023-04-12London Music Hall - London

I live July Talk. Seen them 4 times before and enjoyed it every time. That said, this show stank. You could tell me now that it was actually a cover band and it would track. The smoke/fog was waaayyyy overdone, the vocals were bad, and the stage chemistry was non-existant. Suuuuuupppper disappointed.

July Talk - Consistently Awesome. Crown Lands killed.

by MrModus on 2023-04-12London Music Hall - London

This is about the fifth time I've seen July Talk. I thought as usual they were great. However I will say the sound guy let them down this time. Both the mics were waaaayyyyy too low, which is unusual for the London Music Hall, which typically has good sound. Not a shot on the band at all, as they killed it. The opener, Crown Lands, stole the show a little bit though. I'd never heard of them and they absolutely slayed. I bought a cd, two shirts and two posters to show our support for them. I even met the drummers dad at the merch table and chatted him up for about 10 minutes. It was great. Do yourself a favour and see these guys live. It's a two man band that sounds like a six piece band.

by Karl701 on 2023-04-11Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

Talent is certainty there. For me and people around me thought the vocals were too low. Row 1 level 2. Enjoyed the show. Burton Cummings Theater is a great venue.

Great band and show but the timing was way off

by Roman on 2023-04-05Grey Eagle Event Centre - Calgary

Great show the band is awesome. The media release times were way off. They said doors opened at 5:30 and the show was at 7. They didn’t open the doors until 7 and the show didn’t start until 8.

Crown Lands was good. July Talk, not so much. Many of the songs the vocals were inaudible. Left half way through.

    Worth the wait

by Colin on 2023-04-04Grey Eagle Event Centre - Calgary

Advertised as doors open at 530 show at 7 we rushed to get there in time. Only to stand outside in the cold for an hour and a half. Door’s didn’t open until 645 show didn’t start till 8. A bit frustrating as we came from an hour away and I took my young daughter. I get things happen but some communication so maybe we could have grabbed some food instead of standing in line. Both bands were great.

They are one of the best bands ever: I love their music, I love their energy, I love their stage presence and to be able to experience all of this at the Commodore where you can feel and dance to the music right at the stage is very special.

Great July Talk show, they are fantastic!

    by O. L. on 2023-04-02Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

July Talk gave an awesome show at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver! however the choice for the warm up band was very poor, the show the gave was terrible, noisy, loud more likely a scream throughout the show and serious attempt to copy Rush, definitely not a great choice!!

Great band couldn’t hear the vocals.

by Jimmy on 2023-04-02Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

I love July talk, but during this performance either the drums were turned up too high, or the vocals weren’t turned up enough. You couldn’t hear them at the low points.
