About

With a legendary career spanning more than four decades, KANSAS has firmly established itself as one of America's iconic classic rock bands. This "garage band" from Topeka released their debut album in 1974 after being discovered by Wally Gold, who worked for Don Kirshner, and have gone on to sell more than 30 million albums worldwide.

Composing a catalogue that includes fifteen studio albums and five live albums, KANSAS has produced eight gold albums, three sextuple-Platinum albums (Leftoverture, Point of Know Return, Best of KANSAS), one platinum live album (Two for the Show), and two one million-selling gold singles, 'Carry On Wayward Son' and 'Dust in the Wind.' KANSAS appeared on the Billboard charts for over 200 weeks throughout the '70's and '80's and played to sold-out arenas and stadiums throughout North America, Europe and Japan. 'Carry On Wayward Son' continues to be one of the top five most played songs on classic rock radio, and 'Dust In the Wind' has been played on the radio more than three million times!

2016 marked the release of "The Prelude Implicit," KANSAS's fifteenth studio album. The wide-ranging progressive rock album was released on InsideOut Music, and marked the band's first studio album release in 16 years.

In 2020 KANSAS followed up "The Prelude Implicit" with the album "The Absence of Presence."

The band, which is currently comprised of vocalist/keyboardist Ronnie Platt, keyboardist/vocalist Tom Brislin, guitarist Zak Rizvi, guitarist Scott Bernard, violinist/guitarist Joe Deninzon, bassist/vocalist Dan McGowan, original guitarist Richard Williams, and original drummer Phil Ehart. Eric Holmquist performs on drums while Phil Ehart continues to recover from a major heart attack. KANSAS continues to energize audiences with their powerful live performances.

Along with constant touring, KANSAS continues to remain a fixture of Classic Rock radio and popular culture. The band continues to reach a whole new audience through their unmistakable presence in various commercials, live sports broadcasts, popular video games Rock Band, Guitar Hero, and Grand Theft Auto; the band's documentary film "KANSAS: Miracles Out of Nowhere," and a guest appearance on The CW's television show 'Walker.' The band's songs have also been included in various television shows such as 'Supernatural,' 'Reacher,' 'All Elite Wrestling,' 'South Park,' 'The Office,' and 'The Simpsons;' as well as blockbuster films including 'Old School,' 'The Suicide Squad,' 'Anchorman,' 'Pitch Perfect,' 'Happy Gilmore,' and 'Happy Gilmore 2.'

  • Great performance, terrible sound

by Roman on 2023-09-12Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 3 out of 5

The performance was excellent but the volume was painfully loud which made it very difficult to listen to. 5 stars to the band, 1 star to whoever handled the sound.

  • A "Bucket List"Concert from Kansas

by Bruce Woloshyn on 2023-09-11Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

When I was just 16 years old, I made a "bucket list"of all of the great songs that I wanted to see performed by the bands that recorded them. This last week in Vancouver, I crossed off the last song on the list . . . it only took 43 years . . . and Kansas played that last song, "Carry On My Wayward Son"! What an amazing show by Kansas at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Vancouver. Simply Outstanding! We travelled from Vancouver Island for the show and it was well worth the effort, made even more special by having my wife and son with me for the show. As I've always said, there is no substitute for live music. Kansas certainly showed us why. Bravo!

  • Kansas - A wonderful display of high level musicianship!

by Guitar Gar on 2023-09-11Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

The QE Theatre is a great venue for Kansas. Had a great view of the stage. Kansas is a classic band from my time as a teenager. I even learned how to play Carry On My Wayward Son back in the day. The breadth of the music played by the members of Kansas was phenomenal. My partner, who isn't a big fan of rock music, was very impressed by the show. We really enjoyed the concert. The sound was occasionally a tad too hot in the higher frequencies. The higher notes of the vocals, violin and keys didn't sit as well in the mix as I would have hoped. The overall sound wasn't awful but not as good as 5 star show. The previous concert I saw that the QE was Joe Bonamassa. The sound at the Joe Bonamassa show was excellent, well balanced with great definition of each sound source (vocal, guitars, keys, drums..).

  • ā€œ We’re not in Kansas anymore ā€œ

    by Douhun62 on 2023-09-09Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 3 out of 5

They were all great musicians. A lot more Prog Rock than I remember. After awhile it started to sound all very similar, and it got a little theatrical. All in all it was a good experience.

Terrific show and only Kansas played which was nice! Pretty much started on time and played longer than expected but the best part was the fact that because it wasn’t sold out they gave people the opportunity to move closer to the front. Balcony to the third row from the stage. Not too shabby and thanks Kansas for treating us like that. It was an awesome surprise and a great way of saying thanks to your fans!

  • Great concert

by Fay on 2023-09-09Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

Kansas was and is a great band. It was great to see a couple of members of the original band and the violinist was fantastic. Loved the musicality of all members. It was a great night.

  • A musician master class

by TC VanDude on 2023-09-09Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

I’ve been to hundreds of live concerts and seen great musicianship. However these guys were on another level. I was a little disappointed that Kerry wasn’t with them but they made me forget pretty quickly. I’ve never seen anything like the violinist before…. Blew me away! Wow!

  • EXCELLENT SHOW MEZMERIZING

by JADE on 2023-09-09Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

there are concerts and there are concerts, some you like to interact with and dance n party up, Kansas you just want to sit there listen to everything they do, because they are such masterful musicians. The cords the runs the vocals the backend, all so tight it was like they turned on a CD player. Great clean sound i would see they again and again. i took a friend for his birthday and he's a sound engineer for many bands he said the entire night was brilliant clean sound you could hear everything. THANK YOU KANSAS GROUP FOR FINALY COMMING BACK TO VANCOUVER.

  • They still sound fantastic

    by T. E. on 2023-09-09Rating: 5 out of 5

Saw them in Vancouver Wednesday unfortunately the attendance was horrible due to a lack of promotion. Sounded fantastic from the 2nd row. Vocals were a bit drowned out by instrumental. Definitely a must see group

  • Amazing!

    by Cando75 on 2018-10-02Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 5 out of 5

The best Kansas concert I went to. The new lead singer is an amazing vocalist and showman. The new additions to the band Zak R. and David M. are simply awesome. The 40th anniversary tour of POKR is a concert to be added to any bucket list.

  • Kansas - Class 'A' & Truly exceptional musicians

by computerdad2 on 2016-10-31Sound Board at MotorCity Casino Hotel - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

After not seeing this band for forty years, I was in awe how great this classic band with class had sounded still but even more refined. I did know there had been some lineup changes but it did not feel imitated because the blend of artistic and talented musicians that had joined this group! Class 'A' sound & perfect selection of well known songs - even the ones not everyone was familiar with were done beautifully, hats off to you guys!

  • Priceless !

by Belexes on 2014-07-08Aztec Theatre - San AntonioRating: 5 out of 5

My wife & I flew to San Antonio, Texas from Canada to see one of our favorite bands (as a special gift to ourselves in our 10th wedding anniversary), and it was worth every single mile we traveled and every single cent we spent... even got lucky and said hi to all of the band members afterwards and got pictures with Steve Walsh (my favorite singer ever) and Billy Greer.... The band sounds absolutely amazing and you can feel they are giving it all for their fans. Great crowd at the Aztec Theater as well. Every single fan was there to celebrate this band and their music. Fantastic show. We wish it would've kept on going on forever. Don't miss a chance to see this band live. They are an incredible progressive rock band with a great emphasis in "rock".

  • tight but short

    by sdf65 on 2011-08-02Snoqualmie Casino-Mountain View Plaza - SnoqualmieRating: 4 out of 5

I rode about 800 miles to see Kansas and they only played for 1 hour and 10 minutes. A little disipointed with the length of the show but we are all getting older. I loved the show, the band was tight and the sound was good. The mix could have used a bit more guitar. Thanks for the show

  • Kansas was Amazing!

    by BigMac007 on 2011-04-10Casino Rama - OrilliaRating: 5 out of 5

It has been a very long time since I have seen a band play this type of complex music and be so tight! These guys are all excellent musicians. The music was amazing, the sound was great and the venue was first class. We drove down from up north and would do again to see these guys. This had to be one of the best concerts I have seen and at 54 years old, I have seen quite a few including Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd. I would go again without hesitation.
