About
Katie Malco on Tour
Acclaimed British indie rock musician Katie Malco has toured with the likes of Jenny Lewis, Bob Mould, Julien Baker, The Joy Formidable, and other indie rock royalty and has been touted by NPR and other renowned media outlets for her vulnerable, earnest songwriting and grand, soaring choruses.
Based in Northampton, England, Malco released her debut album, Failures, in 2020, which she describes as "a documentation of growing up" that offers reflections on her life in her teens and 20s. Malco sees it as a time when she wasn't her best self, she did things she regretted and was going through the difficult demise of an eight-year romantic relationship.
Songs such as the rocking opening track "Animal" chronicle drunken all-nighters out with friends to avoid going home, while the more introspective tune "Brooklyn" is about missing a good friend who suddenly moved away to New York and trying to persuade her to come back home.
Don't miss your chance to see this gifted artist perform live when she comes to a city near you.
Katie Malco Live in Concert
Born Katie Malcolmson in Dunfermline, Fife to Scottish parents, Katie Malco moved with her family to Northampton, England, about 70 miles northwest of London, when she was a child.
Malco began playing music at a very young age when she picked up her father's left-handed guitar. After her parents realized how much she enjoyed playing and that she had an aptitude for it, they bought her her own right-handed guitar, but by then she had already grown accustomed to playing left-handed, so she turned the new guitar upside down and played it that way so the gift wouldn't go to waste.
Listening to the songs on her 2020 debut album Failures that address themes of isolationism, drunken nights out with friends and troubled relationships, one would never guess that the first songs Malco wrote were essentially Christian rock songs. She and some friends from her local church formed a rock band called The Addiction that wrote songs about devotion -- a far cry from her later confessional and earnest tunes (she now identifies as an atheist).
