About

English rockers Keane play a unique brand of alternative rock that highlights the piano instead of the more traditionally favored guitar. The band is made up of lead singer Tom Chaplin, drummer Richard Hughes, bassist Jesse Quin and pianist Tim Rice-Oxley. Anyone who has been to a Keane concert tends to talk about the infectious excitement coming from the stage, with a fun light show in the background to add to the atmosphere. In particular, during the tour to promote their Strangeland album, even the ballads they performed were described by ticket holders as rousing and energetic.

The band is named after a family friend who at one time cared for and inspired some of the band members, most of whom met in England at a young age. Though Keane has gone through some changes since the beginning, including the departure of guitarist and founder Dominic Scott, the band managed to find success after releasing its first album, Hopes and Fears, in 2004. Some of the album's most popular songs included "Somewhere Only We Know," "Bend and Break" and "Everybody's Changing." In 2006, Under the Iron Sea was released, bringing with it the hit songs "Is It Any Wonder?" and "Atlantic." That album was followed by Perfect Symmetry in 2008, which brought back the use of the guitar and also increased the band's reliance on synthesizers.

Strangeland was released in 2010, becoming Keane's fifth album in a row to garner the No. 1 spot on the UK Albums Chart. After The Best of Keane album was released in 2013, the members of the band announced that they would be taking a break to relax after several busy years of making music.

    Keane is amazing!

by PinkFan on 2009-09-19The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

This was my fourth time seeing Keane in the last 5 years and they blew me away yet again. The venue was a theater style setting, which made a concert like this even more enjoyable. Tom sounded beautiful as usual and he has gotten a lot more stage presence over the years. He is more involved with the audience and the other guys on stage. Keane are the kind of artists you HAVE to see live to really feel the music. They are so talented and so raw, they are a pleasure to see every time. Also I met them after the show and they are the most down-to-earth and sweet guys. Try finding an artist with their popularity who will sign autographs, take pictures and chat with each of the 40 fans waiting.

    Keane...simply fantastic!

by NurseJackie on 2009-09-18Edmonton Event Centre - Edmonton

I have seen a lot of shows...and Keane is for sure a favorite! The vocals were amazing, venue was great, and the overall performance was top notch! I was beginning to wonder if any band was able to meet the performance value of coldplay....and well....they did!

    Keane is keen!

by Maia on 2009-09-18Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

What made the show lively and spontaneous is the audience and how much Keane appreciated this. Keane was totally awed by the warm and unrelenting applause they received from us. And they returned it by performing spectacularly for each song.

    Keane even better in person

by DiveGirl on 2009-09-18Edmonton Event Centre - Edmonton

After waiting years to see Keane, they did not disappoint. The energy of the group was amazing, as was their sound. This was one of the few concerts I have attended where the band sounds as good live as they do on their cd.

    Keane was more than peachy!!

by bbwench on 2009-09-17Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

Absolutely amazing!! Stunning in every sense of the word. My senses were ablaze. Keane's first five songs of their setlist were some of my favourite tracks like Everybody's Changing and Bend and Break. Each note was hit with perfection by Tom vocally and Tim and Richard instrumentally. Not only did we get fantastic performances of the best of their tracks but we were treated to a cover of Queen's Under Pressure that I am sure Freddie Mercury and David Bowie would be proud of. Keane have proven themselves to be not only great songwriters but one of the best live bands out there these days.

I think that overall the entire performance from Lights and Keane was amazing! Lights was a great opening act, getting the crowd excited for Keane to come on, plus she was amazing live. I would deffinatley reccomend the show for any of my friends... Lights was so nice and friendly with her fans. I would know... I met her! She even signed my friends face. Keane was great at getting the crowd excited and I would totally go see them again.

    Effortless

by thefourthlegacy on 2009-09-17Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

We arrived a little late so we missed the opener, but we came in to Lights, a band I hadn't heard of before, but I honestly thought they were playing a recording, her voice was so incredible! The light shot was amazing, and then came Keane... I LOVED it. Tom's voice was absolutely effortless and so beautiful, he's an absolute master songwriter and he was incredibly nice and warm and welcoming and just seemed so happy to be here! Wonderful experience, definitely one of my favourites after seeing them live!

    Great guys, even better show!

by alexaparker on 2009-09-17Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

Well, we started off the night with a surprise backstage run. Lights (the opening act) was SO sweet and funny, and just a really nice person. Keane were also so friendly. They all seemed genuinely happy to be meeting fans; they really seemed grateful. Lights opened and her own brand of techno-pop-acoustic music had the crowd amazed, even I, someone who isn't a big Lights fan, was highly entertained by her charisma and voice. Keane put on a high energy, passionate performance, making everyone in the audience feel as though they were important, as though they couldn't be happier to perform just for them. 10/10, would definitely see them again...and again.

I waited more than three years to finally see them

by wokker on 2009-09-17Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

They were more than I expected. Although the venue was horrible. We were boiling and even the musicians were sweating like pigs. :-( But the band gave its best! Love them.

    Keane came through again!

by Cazbar on 2009-09-17MacEwan Hall - Calgary

Keane at MacEwan Hall last monday was a fab evening. I have seen the boys host a charity night in London before and frontman, Tom Chaplin once again proved to be a gracious host for the night. Even for a smaller crowd than they are used to playing in front of these days, they threw themselves into the set and seemed to impress the locals, especially with their continued praise of Canada that they decided to travel through by bus for their tour. Keane were on form but I was once again disappointed with the music venue. It was the best by far compared to the Saddledome and the Big Four building for sound and being able to see the band, but I was a little offended that being an adult I was unable to consume alcohol whilst watching the band and instead was penned off like naughty sheep being shunned away from the rest of society for trying to enjoy myself a little bit in this seemingly highly controlled city.

    Pleasantly Surprised

by Rigit on 2009-09-17Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

Keane is my favorite band. There is not one song that I don't like. Despite that, I wasn't sure that they would be any good live. Oh was I ever wrong. They rocked out their songs making them super great live. I love love them!

    Keane was funtastic!

by borneidentity on 2009-09-17Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

Keane was absolutely great. I was never a big fan of there latest album 'Perfect Symmetry' however hearing it live really helped me appreciate the new album! The concert was extremely energetic and the band had some absolutely awesome audience interaction! GREAT WORK KEANE! Did anyone else notice Tom's awesome shoes? I found that the opening act 'Lights' was alright...the venue is terrible acoustically and it was extremely difficult to make out the songs she was singing... Other then that...nice...it was nice....a fun night out with the friends!

    Keane was fab!

by Peg71 on 2009-09-17Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

The theatre was very hot but that didn't stop Keane from putting on a great show. They played a lot from their newest album, Perfect Symmetry, but mixed in some older favorites as well. The audience had amazing energy and definitely showed their appreciation and love of the music to the band.
