About

English rockers Keane play a unique brand of alternative rock that highlights the piano instead of the more traditionally favored guitar. The band is made up of lead singer Tom Chaplin, drummer Richard Hughes, bassist Jesse Quin and pianist Tim Rice-Oxley. Anyone who has been to a Keane concert tends to talk about the infectious excitement coming from the stage, with a fun light show in the background to add to the atmosphere. In particular, during the tour to promote their Strangeland album, even the ballads they performed were described by ticket holders as rousing and energetic.

The band is named after a family friend who at one time cared for and inspired some of the band members, most of whom met in England at a young age. Though Keane has gone through some changes since the beginning, including the departure of guitarist and founder Dominic Scott, the band managed to find success after releasing its first album, Hopes and Fears, in 2004. Some of the album's most popular songs included "Somewhere Only We Know," "Bend and Break" and "Everybody's Changing." In 2006, Under the Iron Sea was released, bringing with it the hit songs "Is It Any Wonder?" and "Atlantic." That album was followed by Perfect Symmetry in 2008, which brought back the use of the guitar and also increased the band's reliance on synthesizers.

Strangeland was released in 2010, becoming Keane's fifth album in a row to garner the No. 1 spot on the UK Albums Chart. After The Best of Keane album was released in 2013, the members of the band announced that they would be taking a break to relax after several busy years of making music.

    Amazing concert!

by Anonymous on 2010-08-03Molson Canadian Amphitheatre - Toronto

I am a huge fan of Keane and never miss an opportunity to see them live. But this is also because they are always amazing live and this time was no exception. They played a great set and the crowd was singing along to every song. I had such a good time. I go to many concerts and, in my opinion, no other band can get the crowd to sing along with so much energy as Keane does. Tom's voice was perfect, as always, and Tim was great as well singing 'My Love'. I highly recommend this band to anyone.

Robyn was the star of this show!

by Rockinsteadygurl on 2010-08-03Molson Canadian Amphitheatre - Toronto

Well, I'm not gonna lie. My friend and I went there to see Robyn, not the headliners Keane. Robyn was amazing! I wish all artists put that much effort and talent into everything they do! She is awesome! As for Keane, they're just not my thing. We stayed and gave them a chance but it was just too mellow for me. They're nothing special in my eyes, but it looked like people were enjoying themselves. The place was kinda empty though. Ampitheatre was no where near full capacity.

    small crowd very keane

by foodboy on 2010-08-03Molson Canadian Amphitheatre - Toronto

last fridays keane show did not seem to disappoint the 3000 or so people who came to see this mid talented band. their set was around one and a half hours in length . older material was well received . newer material was so so. i didn't feel they should be headlining a festival and i guess the paltry turnout didn't think so either. but then again who had the brain cramp to schedule a festival starting at 3.30 on the friday of a long weekend. for me the surprise of the night was ROBYN. a high energy show of techno that you could feel the electricity coming off the stage. she kind of reminds me of a cross of madonnas shock and awe along with some PINK. very entertaining and as i had never seen her before was totally blown away by her performance. also ingrid michelson was very endearing and put on a good set ending with a great version of britney spears toxic.much fun. all in all a very fun evening but just not enough umph for a headline act.

    Keane Showing.

by paddywhack on 2010-07-31Molson Canadian Amphitheatre - Toronto

On a Friday before the August long weekend an event took place at the Ampitheatre that seemed to slip under the radar. A great line-up and great weather would've done a lot better on any other day but the Friday. The crowd peaked towards 4,000 during Robyn and Keane's sets later in the evening, but every act on the line-up brought their talents to display for what was called Disco Lemonade. Far Eat Movement and Dan Black kicked things off, with Ingrid Michaelson and Fran Healy providing the late afternoons soundtrack. Robyn got things started in the evening, in typical stylized fashion, with two drummers and two melody manipulators. The sounds rocked and the crowd went off. There was a lot of love for Robyn, and why not, it was a great performance. Keane appeared on stage around 9:40pm, and from the first sound they owned the stage and had the crowd in rousing form. Tom Chaplins voice was spot on, the energy from all four on stage was exhiliarating. A great venue to see Keane, it would be nice to see them here again, maybe Canada can get the word out, so no one else misses the oppurtunity to see theses lads, a great band to see live.

    Greatest Show I've ever seen

by RunOutGroove on 2010-07-31Molson Canadian Amphitheatre - Toronto

I have never been so impressed by a live performance. The band was spot on, vocals were indescribable (the studio doesn't do his voice justice), and the sound guys were amazing. They chose the perfect set-list, keeping the crowd on their feet, singing along and dancing the night away. There was never a dull moment on stage, everyone had a unique presence while maintaining a "we are one" atmosphere. They poured their hearts into the show, and I left with some of the greatest music ringing in my ears. Long Live Keane

An All Day Concert ? :O

by MisInformed on 2010-07-31Molson Canadian Amphitheatre - Toronto

Hello, I went to the concert yesterday afternoon really looking forward to seeing Keane. I had wondered why the show was so early, 3:30 pm, but I was silly and thought maybe they had another place to be or had plans of there own for the evening, :P. But it turns out I got much, much more then I paid for... Well I shouldn't really complain about an additional 6 hours of pre-show, instead of perhaps 45 minutes, but it would have been really nice to have known this going into the event. Drinks and food are really pricy, especially living on a student income, and once your in there's no leaving unless you want to miss the rest of the concert. I would have expected for more information on the Disco Lemonade concert, all of its bands and their perfromance times to have been clearly displayed when ordering the Keane tickets. Lesson Learnt! Keane was still awesome, and I enjoyed listening to the other bands.

    Keane Was Epic!!!

by musikboi on 2010-07-31Molson Canadian Amphitheatre - Toronto

Keane definitely delivered their A game, best show ever! Their performance was electric, high energy, and overall epic! There was a great mix of old and new materials to sing from the top of your lungs to. I only realized how sore my legs were from all that jumping and standing hours after their set was over. Kudos to Keane! I've gotta see them again soon!

by Jonnogtv on 2010-07-31Molson Canadian Amphitheatre - Toronto

Great show. Sounds was great. Set list was perfect. Not sure why tickets said show started at 3:30 when Keane went on at 9:30. Next time, Ticketmaster, tell people there is going to be that many bands and post the call times.

    Keane was absolutely brillient....bloody amazing!!

by AceFace on 2009-09-22Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

This was my first time seeing Keane but certainly not my last. They were amazing from the time when they came on stage to the point where the hall lights were turned on to usher the crowd out. Knowing all their songs, I was able to sing along with every word and note. When Crystal Ball was started, I was raised to glorious heaven!!! My wife has always been somewhat of a fan but since the concert, she has not stopped playing the assorted CD I made of them. Thanks Keane! Thanks for providing us such a beautiful, romantic evening!! We can't wait to see you all back in Winnipeg soon!!!!

Keane - As Good as it Gets

by MikeD on 2009-09-21MacEwan Hall - Calgary

The last time I was so involved in a concert was the Fair Warning tour of Van Halen in 1981. What is common here is an important band, at their peak, playing for fans who look at the band as their favorite or close to it. To see a band that can sell out the O2 in London in minutes in an intimate venue, front row center in Calgary is priceless. This band is outstaning on record and live. If you do not know at least 4 Keane songs, you are missing a LOT. See them at all costs if you are a fan of melodic rock.

    Outstanding Keane

by JessieDog95 on 2009-09-21Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

What a great show. I was a bit surprised at how much energy they put out. Especially Tom Chaplin. We met them after the show along with some other fans and they were so genuine and nice. It was a pleasure to chat with them. It was definetly worth the wait and I'm so glad that they made it to Winnipeg. I would go again in a heartbeat!!

What an amazing concert. The band was tight, the vocals were great, the acoustics excellent and I don't remember hearing a bad song. I thought the choice of going with Under Pressure in the encore was an interesting choice

    crazy for Keane

by hijklmn on 2009-09-19Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

Keane was even better in concert than I could've imagined. Would definitely go see them again. Really reminded me of the Coldplay concert, but Keane definitely isn't the poor man's Coldplay, they can stand on their own merit.
