KENNY WAYNE SHEPHERD IN CONCERT:

Guitar god Kenny Wayne Shepherd is one of the fiercest young axmen of his generation, and he continues to blow audiences away every time he takes the stage. The self-taught virtuoso is a sight to behold in concert, where his furious fingers and flailing blonde locks serve as the perfect counterpoint to the precision and ease of his razor-sharp riffs. Whether he's playing bluesy originals from 2014's Goin' Home or covering legends like Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix, Shepherd always treats fans to electrifying performances that are as heavy on pure gusto as they are on musical chops.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Shreveport, Louisiana-born Kenny Wayne Shepherd got his first guitar in early childhood and began learning the instrument with a unique self-taught method. He was quickly recognized as a guitar prodigy, and at age 13 he was invited to play on stage with blues icon Bryan Lee. His first performance at the Red River Revel Arts Festival in Shreveport attracted the eye of label execs, and before long Shepherd had signed a multiple record deal with Giant Records. His 1995 debut album Leadbetter Heights topped the blues chart, a feat he repeated with five subsequent albums including his 1997 sophomore album Trouble Is... -- the longest-running album on the Billboard Blues Chart in history.  In 2014 Shepherd released his seventh studio album Goin' Home, another chart-topper that has fans eagerly awaiting his next must-see series of tour dates.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"I have seen Kenny Wayne numerous times and this was his best show yet. See him if you can!"

"Awesome show!!! Would definitely pay to see them again! He punished that guitar!"

"Kenny Wayne Shepherd and his band rocked the blues. What great musicians. His closing act of Jimmy Hendrix's 'Voodoo Child' was awesome."

much much too loud. The guitar overpowered everything else. (I know he is an amazing guitarist and the star of the show, but that was ridiculous) the sound was not set up well at all. I enjoy his CDs but the live show was awful.

It was awesome, the way Kenny plays his guitar, just gives me the goose bumps. His passion for playing absolutely shows in the way he puts out , Have a visual of Kenny playing with Stevie Ray one day. now that would be heaven. R.I.P. Stevie Ray Vaughan

  • Kenny Wayne, Noah and Band were Fantastic Again!!!

    by Cheekygal66 on 2009-08-05Commodore Ballroom - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

I had the pleasure of seeing Kenny Wayne Shepherd in Vancouver 12 years ago with Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Paul Rodgers. At the time he had just released his debut CD and I remember how outstanding he was at such a young age. His guitar playing was and still is nothing short of raw, incredible talent. I'm always disappointed when he is compared to other guitar players, the likes of Stevie Ray, because he is in his own right a uniquely great performer.

  • young again!!

  • The KWS night at the Commodore was phenomenal

    by Links2 on 2009-08-02Commodore Ballroom - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

With the great privilege of being able to meet and chat with KWS and Noah prior to them going on stage, and then the huge opportunity to be standing about 6 feet from the stage while they played, it was one of the most enjoyable nights that I can remember. I have been a huge fan of the group for quite a few years, (with the "10 Days Out" dvd showing me the respect he has for Blues and some of its early pioneers) and to be able to actually meet and chat with KWS also showed me he was very approachable and genuine. Pretty cool! I left the "meet and greet" wishing that I could sit down over a few beers with them (KWS and Noah) as I had many questions about the making of the dvd. The music they played on stage was fabulous. Noah has that totally recognizable voice and, well, Kenny, was incredible. No "choking" like he said on his 10 Days Out dvd when he played with the greats like BB King. H ewas stellar. Everyone was on their feet, BUT, I was right at the stage. First time in my life I have really wanted to be right up front, it was a magical night for me.

  • Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band - Commodore Ballroom

What a great show on Friday night! KWS was amazing (as usual) on guitar and the whole band performed well (Noah Hunt was fabulous as lead singer, too)! Highly recommended for blues-rock fans!

The band was off the hook, played a great set. Very talented musicians, they will only get bigger. I am glad to have seen them at the Commodore, the best venue in town!

hot show; great sound; solid performance; artist maturing well.

  • Over all experiance

by WaterFowl on 2009-08-01Commodore Ballroom - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

The venue was a tight selective crowd that knew what they were there for; clean crisp rocking blues guitar. Kenny did not disappoint we drank up every bit of energy it in a glass pure enjoyment. The rest of the band played there heart out keeping up to their front man; still not sure how the bassest plays by his knees, really does not matter the kid was good.

  • Kenny Wayne Shepherd - NEver disappoints !!

by JaxxBlues on 2009-08-01Commodore Ballroom - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

I have seen Kenny Wayne Shepherd each and every time he has played in Vancouver, each time we go we try to take new friends with us to introduce them to the wonderful world of KWS's music. The shows he puts on are always amazing, very few musicians in the world can make a guitar sing like Kenny Wayne Shepherd can. He and Noah Hunt are the perfect pairing, Noah's voice is wicked, and melds perfectly with Kenny's voice and the voice of Kenny's guitar. I love the fact that KWS plays small venues, it makes for a much more personable show, very intimate. In my opinion it shows that he is not selling out to the mainstream, and that he continues to care about the music he makes and the fans that adore him. Thanks yet again Kenny Wyane Shepherd, for another awe inspiring performance. See you next year!!!!!

  • High energy guitar play

    by JB0000 on 2009-08-01Commodore Ballroom - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

The expectations were high and I wasn't dissapointed. Felt like a little bit of Stevie Ray Vaughn natalsia, BB King and Eric Clapton wrapped up into one. Would definitely see again.
