KING CRIMSON IN CONCERT:
You can't keep a good band down -- legendary prog rock pioneers King Crimson ended a five-year hiatus in 2014 with the announcement of a fall US tour. The group has called it quits several times over the decades, but their love of music and passion for performing always bring them back to the stage. The band's current lineup -- its eighth since 1969 -- includes founder and primary creative force Robert Fripp alongside three drummers, two guitar players, and a flutist-saxophonist. Beloved for their virtuosic musicianship and extended live jamming, the veteran performers will take fans on an unforgettable musical journey through their hallowed discography on their An Evening with King Crimson tour.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
King Crimson was formed in Dorset, UK in 1968 by guitarist Robert Fripp and brothers Michael and Peter Giles. The band's acclaimed 1969 debut In the Court of the Crimson King established what would become the hallmarks of British progressive rock, with its emphasis on instrumental expertise, use of vanguard musical technologies, and fusion of rock forms with classical and jazz styles. By the time they released their 1970 sophomore album In the Wake of Poseidon the band had already undergone the first of many lineup changes, but despite the shakeup the album still landed at No. 4 on the UK Albums Chart. In the decades that followed, King Crimson's rotating roster of players produced an impressive string of Top 40 albums, establishing them as one of the era's most revered progressive rock acts. Despite several hiatuses over the years, the band continues to reunite for occasional albums and tours. Robert Fripp and Co. thrilled fans once again in 2014 with the announcement of An Evening with Crimson, their highly anticipated fall US tour.
Great show just a lot of stairs at Massey hall just to get a beer
The band and spatially Robert Fripp is amazing. I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great venue for a concert. I was disappointed that they barely talked to the audience and they didn't allow any photography and videos. it's not like they come on a regular basis. Good choice of music and excellent stage presence, but a little more conversation about them and the history would have made for a more enjoyable evening. I could have listened to the album at home but I like to hear what the musicians say when they perform live. I wished they had done" I Talk to The Wind " too.
Decidedly male audience - great venue. The sound on the first song was shaky, some fuzz on the bass and screeching on the oboe, but settled down perfectly. Vocals amazing as was the sound. Missed 21st C Schizoid Man as the band was not generous in encore - the talk was that Fripp was pissed because of someone taking pictures and getting hit with the focus laser.
King Crimson played 3 shows in Toronto last week/weekend November 19th, 20th & 21st @ the Queen Elizabeth Theatre. I was lucky enough to get to attend the Saturday evening show and it ROCKED! Robert Fripp & the band jammed out a Killer set. Would I do it all over again? you're damn RIGHT! Super glad I finally got to see K.C. Live in concert! King Crimson ROCKS! :-)
Terrific evening of progressive rock by Fripp and company. Nice to see them in a small venue. The sound was perfect! The three drummers really drove the proceedings. It was a marvellous 2 hours!
Amazing performance of the legendary band. Thanks to Mr.Robert Fripp and his wonderful team.
This really was a fantastic show...kept me mesmerized throughout, from start to finish...I'm not a die-hard King Crimson fan, i didn't even know many of the songs they played...but it didn't matter...every song was great, and the performances of the songs were amazing! Highly recommend seeing these guys whether you are a fan or not, it is an experience.
Anybody who is fortunate to have accepted King Crimson into their lives, either whilst entertaining friends at party or self indulging the eclectic mastery, should NOT/must Not miss this show! This amazing feeling of fulfillment, and being in such close presence of these lords of music will carry in my memories and others -because, like a good disciple, I believe everyone should be privy to why King Crimson is amongst the top bands of all times. I am not a musician, and only a part time audiophile attentive to music containing talent over mainstream crap. Nevertheless, I've seen enough concerts, and heard variety of music over the years to expertly say this was one of the greatest moments I witnessed and heard!
I shall not easily forget the rare opportunity to witness King Crimson's live performance of Epitaph, In the Court of the Crimson King and 21st Century Schizoid Man from the band's seminal 1969 album. The musicians, led by Fripp, were masterful, complimented each other effectively and the acoustic soundstage provided by the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Toronto lent itself well to the delivery of such compelling, imaginative music. T'was a brilliant concert!
Couldn't take my eyes off the stage! These talented musician played with all their hearts. Their music is so layered, eclectic and complex. Definitely a must see if you have a great appreciation for ,music and instruments!
Incredible show! I was blown away. Flabbergasted. Left in utter awe of Crimson King incarnate. Hope again.. .
King Crimson was phenomenal! However, the security people crabbing at you for having your phone out A HALF HOUR BEFORE the band came on stage was a little much.
It started off to be a pretty good show. Wow can these guys play. There was a little speech at the beginning of the show about pictures. Ok I get it on the picture thing. Apparently a fan and I say a fan took a picture doing the first encore song. Ok no big deal, he or she was just taking a picture. Robert Fripp walked off the stage after the first song of the encore and left his bandmates standing there. I was a fan and lets not mention the price I paid for my ticket, but that was so uncool of Mr Fripp. Its a concert for crying out loud. Most of the people present paid good money for a show. I feel like I have been ripped off. Other sets I have researched on the internet says we fell short 1 to 2 songs because a fan took a picture. Where do I get my money back.
What an impressive tour de force by an amazing group of musicians. Some argue that having 3 drum sets is a gimmick - I would disagree. The 3 drummers complement each other and work in seamless harmony at all times even when playing on different time signatures. These guys are so in tune and such fabulous musicians - the whole thing felt like a once in a lifetime experience. You can see where some of the more current musicians got their inspiration from (Radiohead was my first thought). Great show, good venue, great sound.
Great show!! Sound was awesome. Musicians were superb. Merchandise expensive.
One of the factors that describe the concert is - do you go again to see it? I would definitely go to see it again and feel that energized by music air. The sound was great which is a big deal! Magnificent Seven on stage were enjoying to play as well as hundreds in theater to listen. One of the band that could play anything from their long list repertoire and have success. Don't think twice- go to see them!
Fantastic show! Great musicianship! Well done! Keep up the good work.
Mr. Fripp and band were tight. Loved the show until Fripp left in the middle of the encore because some moron in the front was using his smart phone to tape the band. I am pissed at the idiot fan that ruined it for all. We probably missed "20th Century Schizoid Man" because of it, but I am more pissed at Fripp for not sucking it up and finishing the show for his true fans. The actions of one idiot fan ruined the show for me and the other 1200 people. Took a night out of my family life and spent hard earned cash to see an amazing show. I did not expect to see a 69 year old man, Mr. (walk on water) Fripp , pull a hissy fit and walk out on his band and the true blue fans.
The King Crimson concert was a journey of a lifetime. Within those two hours, I didn't listen to the music, I experienced the music. I sat down, closed my eyes, and let the music lead me. King Crimson left me shaking. Each musician in the band had a unique and tasteful way of playing their instrument, together creating a masterpiece that's is truly beyond our ears. Every component of the song was fealt, from the snare, to the flute, and to the rhythm. Each note was played with passion and practice. King Crimson is a rock orchestra, with the result of the jaw-dropping progressive rock symphony. I had goosebumps throughout the entire show, as I fealt magic in the music enter in my veins. Mel Collins's flute and sax especially.
