This show was absolutely mesmerizing. Words cannot describe how much I loved it. It was my second time and I was still blown away.
Also a nice bonus to add some vocals, although a male vocalist would have been great as well. Only other suggestion would be to add some historical Cohen footage (b/w) shots on the big screen to complement the story lines.
Les Ballet Jazz de Montreal was outstanding as usual. My daughter & I saw their performance in Edmonton and were in awe. Two days later we are in Vancouver and we bought more tickets so other members of the family could also be amazed by their performance tonight at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre.
I wasn’t particularly familiar with Cohen’s work. However I really enjoyed Alberta Ballet’s tribute. Modern and hip.
Everything about this performance was amazing — the choreography, the dancers, the lighting and of course the music. It’s a must-see event
Gravity defying dance . . . Absolutely mind blowing. What an amazing tribute to the musical genius of Leonard Cohen ❤️
have not gone to anyrhing like this in years! music, dance & special effrcts just mesmerizing. lots of good memories in his music.
This was a beautiful and moving visual poem set to Cohen's iconic songs. The choreography was striking and there were other visual elements that added to the beauty of each piece. The dancers even sang. Thank you!
I thoroughly enjoyed the interpretation of the music with the stunning dancing. The minimalism of some of the set designs made the performances even more profound. Loved the serene beauty of “Suzanne” with its magnificent, challenging choreography. On the other hand, “The Tower of Song” was another favourite, exhilarating with an awesome, eye catching performance. I would see this again. In fact, I saw it in 2018 too!
We love the new dance ballet choreographed to modern music! We’ve seen a production before this as well. We had seats 5 rows from the stage and we are tall people, but missed 40% of the show due to so much floor work! Beautiful, well danced strong performance from all but visually unavailable to the audience. Also, disappointed that more of his best hits weren’t used, as a big Cohen fan I believe the song selection could have been better and if some visual backdrops with some height were used it would have accentuated the brilliance of the dancers. I would see it again if the production changed it up, making me think it would have longevity over the years with variations brought to the audience every year or two.
The magical performance exceeded our expectations. My husband it could be the best performance he has ever seen (and we see a lot of theater and performances). The dancers were outstanding, athletic and expressive, the music was terrific - of course, Leonard Cohen. Added to that the staging, direction and choreography were top notch. We would love to see it again!
Awesome choreography, amazing dancers, wonderful singers. I would love to see it again sometime! All In all a very enjoyable evening. Bravo.
I was riveted to the stage throughout the whole performance - the dance, the lighting, the timing (and, of course, the poetry and music)… everything was pure perfection.
Choreography was lacking in imagination and did not reflect the emotion and spirit of Cohen's great writing.
Its been almost 30 years since I saw them last. They were ahead of their time then, and along with the Leonard Cohen theme, they are just as relevant and timely as ever. Innovation, complexity, virtuosity and passion - the spirit and the emotion was both raw and deeply moving. It was like Cirque du Soleil on the dance floor. The seamless storytelling through Cohen's music and poetry took us through a roller coaster of feelings - sometimes haunting, sometimes dark, and sometimes sentimental - but always thought provoking and full of sensation and intensity. The entire package was both fresh and nostalgic, the minimalist costumes allowed focus on the movement and combinations. The lighting was likewise austere and dramatic. Truly enjoyable.
Loved the interpretive dance to the amazing music of Leonard Cohen.
This was one of the best productions I have seen in Calgary
The dancing was exquisite, the music wonderful. Made for a fantastic evening
An amazing show. The athleticism and grace of the performers was dazzling. Choreography, lighting and staging were excellent. All very upbeat and enjoyable… and of course the music!! An outstanding performance and a great night out!
Loved it! This is my second time seeing this show, and I’ve brought my girlfriends with me. They loved it too, and would come and see it again!
