A beautiful display of strength and artistry. Such a talented group!
This was an amazing experience. Dancers moving as accompaniment to Leonard Cohen’s poetry set to music.
Dancers were superb. The music was good. Show was spell-binding at times. Woild return to see this troupe again.
So enjoyable to watch the dancing and singing set to the music of Leonard Cohen. What a great evening! The only thing missing was a program to see the performers name.
It was a beautiful presentation and very creative. One of the best performances I have seen!
The dancers were incredible. I enjoyed it very much. I was sitting on the right side so I was near the speakers so sometimes found the sound loud. Smaller crowd in the Theatre made it more intimate.
We've seen Les Ballets Jazz a few times, this was the first performance by them that was less than satisfactory. The program should have been described as modern dance rather than ballet. Whoever designed the lighting for the 1st segment should be fired! It was performed with a bank of several strong spot lights pointed directly into the audience; even with one's hand trying to shield the eyes from the powerful glare it was next to impossible to view the dancers. Why would a program be lit in such a way as to make it difficult to view the stage? Overall the entire program was overly repetitive and performed to quite lethargic and uninteresting music. At times it was a bit of a struggle to stay awake. Costuming was also bland and uninteresting. Disappointing would be the one best word to describe this particular evening out.
I actually went there for my daughter who is taking dance classes, to show her one of the professional performances, to motivate her, to provide he with more understanding of the idea if dancing jazz etc. I invited my friends and family members to join us. And the show exceeded our expectations so much!!! Every one of us was really amazed! There are so much emotions and expression and the technique is perfect! And music is really something!! And the light is a great part of the show! The only thing we were disappointed is the hall were not full. Really weird for such a show.
Amazing dance experience! Super physicality and emotional subtlety
Great choreography, amazing dancers, beautiful music and poems. Leonard Cohen’s songs & poems were so beautifully represented. I felt very moved throughout the show by the beauty of it all. Wish it would come in a DVD and/or hope they come back to the NAC. I would love to see it again. When you feel your ears and your eyes are not big enough to take it all in, you know you’ve hit a winner, and want to see it again, and again. Thank you.
This show was an absolute pleasure to watch. We sat in amazement of each movement carefully choreographed to the music an poetry of the legendary Leonard Cohen. Loved it!
Music, dancer and the whole atmosphere was amazing and leaves you in the OWE for the rest of the night.. Very emotional especially for Leonard Cohen's fans...
Wasn’t sure what to expect going to this show. It was perfect, I am still thinking about it (Day 3 out from the show). Great Canadiana !
Loved the performance. It was exceptional. The choreography was delightful, as was the dancing. So artistic and creative. Would see it again now. We all couldn't stop clapping after we saw it. Bravo, bravo, bravo!!!
I m still in awe . It was incredible I taught Leonard was going to walk out on stage . I want to see it again .
I was completely in awe of the beauty of this performance. Leonard Cohen would be proud. The physicality of the dancers was remarkable, and the interpretation of the songs were just breathtaking.
A wonderful event dedicated to Leonard Cohen who was and remains an Icon. The music is most entertaining and so is the dancing at the onset. But the dancing becomes very repetitive and while one can admire the extraordinary athleticism of the BJM dancers, it lacks imagination. Still it remains a spectacle to see as it honours such an incredible man, poet and singer.
Great idea to combine L. Cohen music and ballet!!!
From the first moment to the final curtain this show was spell binding. The list of songs included LCs work dating from 1967 (Suzanne) to 2016 (Treaty). Hearing his voice in the quiet of the Southam Hall was mesmerizing. The BJM's interpretation and artistic direction was faultless. "Marianne" literally brought tears to my eyes. At the end of the show I felt as though i had held my breath throughout - not wanting to miss a moment. .
Exceptional evening featuring the interpretive dance of BJM to the music of Leonard Cohen. You found yourself transported to another time and place. “WOW”
