Great show just a tad disappointed by the encore song. Theatre seating was great and don't think there was a bad seat in the house.
I haven't seen Lighthouse play for about 8 years, and I have never been to the Queen Elizabeth Theatre venue, so I wasn't sure what kind of an evening I was in for. The theatre turned out to be an amazing venue: the stage was large and all seats were great. The band played everyone's favourites and their jazzy numbers were outstanding. My husband (who didn't really want to go, but it was my Valentine's Day wish) was blown away. The band may be celebrating their 40th, but they still have it together. If I had one little wish, it would be that it was louder, but that's just me. Looking forward to seeing them again!
Without a doubt, the best concert I've seen in years. Anyone not there, missed the most entertaining evening in months. I saw Neil Young a few months ago and this concert was as good or maybe even better. Lighthouse is definitely one of the best bands in Canada. What an amazing group of talented musicians!!
Always thought that the live version may not live up to the records that you have played for 30 years. This was better than any record every could have been. Right from the get go the mix was great, the vocals were great, the atmosphere was great. I would not improve on anything EXCEPT they had a problem with the mid range on the left bank of speakers crapping out. A physical problem with the speaker that I saw a techie looking at at the break. They did not rectify it and unfortuneately it really took away from a lot of the solo pieces. It got more or less drowned out when the band was playing as a unit, but when there was focus on a part, it was really annoying as the musicianship was absolutely amazing. This was definately not the bands fault. The speaker should have been replaced or taken out of the loop at the break. Lighthouse rocks !!!!!!
They still have it !!! - instrumentals were true to original brilliance and ,unlike so many other "older" groups, vocals were VERY strong /true to original. Solos by various members on all instruments were exceptional and allowed us to get a better understanding/appreciation of the many talents that contributed to the group's tremendous overall performance ."Guest" appearances from past members added to evening. Hearing so many old hits from the group reminded us why we loved them in first place - music with tremendous energy- great instrumentals combined with upbeat lyrics, and a punch from the brass section that groups without brass just cannot match. On reflection think group would have been a tremendous addition to Olympics entertainment lineup.
This is the venue more concerts should be seen in. Intimate. Easy to get to. Fabulous lounge. The band was as I expected. Older, but still hitting the notes. Wow. Musicians to their bones. Loved the event
I was blown away. What a band! The sound, the veniue and the band made for a memorable evening. This is the best version of the group ever. Althought we miss Bob McBride and always will. Dan Clancy stands in his own right. These guy clearly were having fun and isn't that's what matters. It was infectous. Thanks Skip, Paul, Ralph, Russ Stuart and all
Lighthouse celebrated their 40th anniversary last night with several thousand of their loyal fans from the early 70's. Close your eyes and, except for the absence of lots of all kinds of smoke in the hall, everyone was transported back to the future. The band sounded amazing. They had great energy, fabulous musicianship and generally put on a high quality show. I had not really heard them live since the mid 70's when Bob McBride was the lead singer. I must say that their 'new' front man is as great as Bob but with a wonderful expansive vocal range. He has been with the band for over 17 years. For boomers, this was a quality event and confirmation that classic rock and rockers really are like fine wine. Even the few young people who came along with their boomer parents seemed to have a great time. The members of the band are exceptional players but the horn sectionis remarkable. I can't recall hearing such phenominal solos at any jazz or rock concert.
Anywhere you sat was great. The sound was excellent and the energy unbelievable. Lighthouse is pure CANADIAN talent. Gold medal in my books!! Hey boys, get out there more you've got a huge fan base. Love your new CD/DVD. Anything in the works ? Would love to have your new song on CD....40 years and still strong.
The band brought a lot of energy and played their music as good as they used to.
What a fantastic display of musical talent. My first time seeing Lighthouse live and I was very impressed. Forty years in rock 'n' roll and they still put on an amazing show. Come back to Toronto soon!
Fabulous band!!! Unbelievable musicians. Better now than 40 years ago. Over a 2 hour concert. Longer than youngsters play. Anyone who missed it missed a serious superlative music happening. These guys are music icons Enjoyed the "visitors" Even my 25 and 26 year olds jaws were on the ground. Would have liked a little more talking to get to know them again. (I know it's their music) A few more songs from the "Song of the Ages" album rather than the new "40 years" song. Encore should have kept us rocking after One Fine Day rathert than having us sit down to a mellow old mediocre tune.
This show was a nice treat. Lighthouse played alot of the songs from their catalogue. They sounded very tight like a band that never quit the scene. Dan Clancy did justice in replacing the late Bob McBride. It was the first time I saw him live. All the regulars, (Skip, Ralph & Paul) seemed to be enjoying themselves again. I would recommend any Lighthouse fan to see them live in 2010. The only downside I can think of is Skip's microphone that he used didn't work properly. When he was singing a song and turned his head it was hard hearing his voice. But in general it was a very good concert.
Simply amazing, 40 years on! Unforgettable "life event" for me.
LIGHTHOUSE WAS ABSOLUTELY A FUN AND ENTERTAINING BAND TO SEE AND HEAR. AFTER 40 YEARS TOGETHER THEY'VE SHOWN WHY THEY'RE STILL AROUND. WITH THEIR EXCEPTIONAL MUSICIANSHIP, HARMONIES AND DAN CLANCY LEADING THE WAY ON VOCALS THIS BAND DEFINITELY DESERVES AN ENCORE PERFORMANCE! "ONE FINE MORNING" WITH IT'S POWERFUL SURGE OF ENERGY SUPPLIED BY THE HORN SECTION KEPT ON BUILDING HIGHER AND HIGHER SPINNING INTO A WHIRLWIND OF MUSICAL BLISS.THIS BAND HAS SUCH A CATALOGUE OF SONGS AND HITS THEY LEFT EVERYONE MORE THAN SATISFIED.
Musical performance was outstanding but the most pleasant surprise was the excellent singing.
The show was FABULOUS! Skip, Paul, and Ralph have not lost their touch. Skip mentioned this particular group of guys have been together for 17 years. Their longevity showed true. The music was tight . The guys enjoyed what they were doing and the audience could see it. Danny, the lead vocalist, sounded right on! They did bring back the "sunny days" of my teenage years. I wanted to get up and dance!
The venue was great! The show was even better! After 40 years the guys still can bring it! A must show for anyone if they return again!
They played so well. Great songs. Everyone in the room seemed to love it.
Kudos to Skip Prokop and the Gang... This concert was phenomenal from the opening tune to the final encore. The acoustics were terrific and that, combined with very talented musicians and a lead singer whose range of voice would rival the best, led to a very ear-pleasing experience. Lighthouse played one hit after another and even the band members who looked to be approaching 70 didn't slow down for a moment. The enthusiasm and passion for their performance could not have been out done. The only song that I missed was "Can You Feel It"... otherwise every one of their hits was played. At the conclusion of the show the band signed copies of their latest DVD "Lighthouse - 40 Years of Sunny Days". I hope they come back to the 'Peg soon.
