About

Lights is many things all at once: Singer. Songwriter. Producer. Multi-instrumentalist. Comic book author. DJ. Artist. She’s also unabashedly honest and unapologetically confident. Weaving in and out of alternative, indie, electronic, and dance, she makes manic pop irreverent of boundaries, yet reverent of truth. She speaks her heart musically and her mind lyrically. It’s why her shadow over alternative music and culture continues to grow with streams in the hundreds of millions and widespread critical acclaim. Over the course of career thus far, the Canada-born disruptor has garnered four JUNO Awards, including 2020’s “Dance Recording of the Year” for the platinum smash “Love Me” with Felix Cartal and “Pop Album of the Year” for her previous two albums, Skin&Earth and Little Machines. She has sold out tours on multiple continents and powered collaborations with Travis Barker, deadmau5, Kaskade, Steve Aoki, Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park, and more. Now, she captivates like never before, kickstarting a new era with single “Prodigal Daughter.”

This is not the first time I have seen LIGHTS in concert but this was by far the best. She was energetic and fun, and her singing was beautiful. Her acoustic renditions were fabulous and I loved the slight hint of Dubstep in some of her concert version of songs. The opening act was also really good. It reminded me of something similar to Tokyo Police Club or Forster the People. They had a different sound but still good. Great Concert!

    Lights at Sound Academy

by BleachMusiK on 2011-12-02Sound Academy - Toronto

Although Lights didn't start until 11:00pm..it was worth the wait! Her confidence and stage presence compared to seeing her in the spring has already vastly improved, I assume since touring non-stop for 2 months. I am definitely glad i made the road trip to see her again and will very likely do it again the next time. All in all, it was an absolutely stellar show!

    AMAZING FIRST CONCERT

by DELEEN on 2011-11-30Sound Academy - Toronto

I cried. Yes, I did. It was AMAZING! Wonderful view, amazing sound, awesome environment, and intense experience. But, of course, there were some problems. We're all standing. Pushy people. Good luck if you're short (like me). Keep clear from the middle. And be prepared to sweat like a pig. But the moment she came out & preformed, all of that was forgotten. Pure enjoyment<3 Loved it. Love her. Love music :)

Lights is true talent and a rising star

    by Tamara09 on 2011-11-29Bronson Centre - Ottawa

The opening bands were alright, but Lights took the cake! So glad I went to this concert!! What an amazing, true talent to witness live. I wish her all the best and am so glad I caught her live at a smaller venue before she blows up and only performs on larger stages.

Lights was great, rest of show not so much!

by Warning on 2011-11-28Sound Academy - Toronto

I was already worried about the venue after reading bad reviews online about the Sound Academy, but I had to see it for myself. Overall the place isn't too bad, plenty of bars and friendly service to fit your needs. Washrooms were kind of messy though and security was a little overly tight it seemed. Anyways the concert itself was alright. Lights sounded great live but after hurrying to arrive at the doors (which were to open 8) only to be still be in line until 8:30 it was a long time until she came on. I expected that, I know there are opening acts but the first guy was terrible. Not only did he take 30 minutes to set up his act, it wasn't worth waiting for anyways. I give the guy credit for trying to be an artist but all his stuff sounded the same and he expected you to read along with him as he sang. The second band was alright but me and my friend were already bored to death and not near drunk enough..we just wanted Lights to come on. We had to live early after all this to catch the last train, so we missed her last few songs but everything we heard from her was awesome.

    Amazing, but...

by Yuuki on 2011-11-28Sound Academy - Toronto

Lights was AMAZING live, she is soooooo talented and her concert kicked ass. But the show was supposed to start at 8... we didn't even get inside until like 9, and then it took another 30-45 minutes to get underway. When it finally did start, there was so many technical problems, and the people going on before Lights took waaaaay too long. So by the time she actually got on stage, I only got to see like half of the show before I had to go catch my train. I was a little disappointed with how long it took. I don't know if concerts are usually like that. But most of the ones I've been to, even if they started a little late, weren't as badly timed as that. I mean... it was supposed to start at 8... and yet she wasn't on stage until like 10:45. That's a little ridiculous. Otherwise, I have no complaints against Lights or her band, even the performers before her were really good. I just wished it hadn't been so late! She was really, really amazing though!!!

    Lights was good

by DecentShow on 2011-11-28The Odeon Events Centre - Saskatoon

Lights played some of her songs from her first album which i really liked she also did stuff from her second aswell. I didn't like this album as much as the first but that might just be me. All the songs i wanted to here Lights played, A good mix of songs she had that night. Her voice is CD quality she can really sing i was quite happy with that. Overall the show and the songs were great if you liked the first CD i would go and see Lights.

She was very excited about playing the show, as she said it was her biggest venue yet. She is just as good vocally in concert as she is on her music tracks. She is very talented playing mulltiple instruments throughout the show. Overall a very good show, would definitely recommend to anyone who likes her music.

LIGHTS was great, Venue was poor

by LKWallar on 2011-11-28Sound Academy - Toronto

LIGHTS puts on an amazing show. She is fun to watch and her songs lend really well to a live show. Her opening act however, had technical difficulties (audio, monitors, lighting you name it) which really threw off his set. The opener kept a good face, but it did not leave a good impression of the Sound Academy crew.

    LIGHTS is absolutely fantastic live!

by Anonymous on 2011-11-28Sound Academy - Toronto

Very first time I've ever seen her live. I had heard things about her sounding very close to how she does recorded and I was blown away by how correct that statement was. I would definitely go again, amazing experience. Openers were pretty terrible, but that's not why I went to the show, my only regret is not being closer to the stage!

    Still Unforgettable

by DomenicDominion on 2011-11-28Sound Academy - Toronto

I'll keep it short and simple: This is the fifth time I've seen her live, and I was still blown away by everything! The song choice was fantastic, the singing and music playing was phenomenal, and the interaction with fans and uniqueness of the whole thing were incomparable!

LIGHTS always puts on an amazing show!!

by SeanDre on 2011-11-28Sound Academy - Toronto

As always, LIGHTS performed her heart out with a very impressive showing of raw talent and appreciation for her fans. One of the only artists I know who interacts so much with her fans both on stage and online. Always a pleasure, will definitely be back to any other Toronto shows that she has listed.

It's Lights, nothing else needs to be said.

    by Ar441 on 2011-11-28Sound Academy - Toronto

If you've seen her, then you don't need an explanation. If you haven't, then get on it. Whether you like her music or not, there's something about seeing real talent on stage. And it's not just talent, but it's passion. No matter where you are in the room, you feel the connection. She belts it out and has a unique and unmatched voice that sends shivers down your back. LIGHTS is by far my favorite live artist. It's always an unforgettable experience that makes you remember why concerts exist.

    Fantastic homecoming show

by jccheung on 2011-11-28Sound Academy - Toronto

Lights was fantastic in her homecoming show and the final stop of the Siberia 2011 tour. The crowd was full energy and definitely added a lot to the experience. This was my first time at the Sound Academy and the acoustics weren't as terrible as I've heard people say, they were adequate in my opinion.

    Hmm

by SamwiseNorthernLights on 2011-11-27Bronson Centre - Ottawa

The acoustics of the Bronson Hall are just not suitable. The two bands before lights I feel would have been better were the venue had been different. Lights was awesome as always. Good show however I would have preferred a more intimate venue with an over 19 age limit.
