About

Lights is many things all at once: Singer. Songwriter. Producer. Multi-instrumentalist. Comic book author. DJ. Artist. She’s also unabashedly honest and unapologetically confident. Weaving in and out of alternative, indie, electronic, and dance, she makes manic pop irreverent of boundaries, yet reverent of truth. She speaks her heart musically and her mind lyrically. It’s why her shadow over alternative music and culture continues to grow with streams in the hundreds of millions and widespread critical acclaim. Over the course of career thus far, the Canada-born disruptor has garnered four JUNO Awards, including 2020’s “Dance Recording of the Year” for the platinum smash “Love Me” with Felix Cartal and “Pop Album of the Year” for her previous two albums, Skin&Earth and Little Machines. She has sold out tours on multiple continents and powered collaborations with Travis Barker, deadmau5, Kaskade, Steve Aoki, Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park, and more. Now, she captivates like never before, kickstarting a new era with single “Prodigal Daughter.”

    Lights is AWESOME

    by PaulS80 on 2011-11-26Bronson Centre - Ottawa

I'm not impressed by much these days and generally don't have the patience to wait around for a concert to start when I'd rather just be at home, but going to see Lights was TOTALLY worth it! I mean, how brilliant is her new album -- Siberia?! Now, imagine that masterpiece transformed into a musical amusement ride for both the ears and eyes, not to mention the things they are connected too, i.e. the heart, the mind, and the rest of the body that can't help but want to move to both her upbeat pop tunes and the heavier beats of her newer deliciously techno-esque songs. I don't know how Lights and her team got so good so quickly at putting on such an excellent show, but they are certainly doing it. So, if you're a Lights fan, there's no question -- go see her live! And, if you're not yet, go anyways, and the chances are you'll be one before the end of her first song!

    Lights Rocked!!

by transcona131 on 2011-11-22Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

Lights put on a great show!! So much energy, jumping all around the stage. One beef was to sound quality, probably due to the old theater the show was in. Other than that, a really good show!! Would deffinitely see again!

    Lights at Hamilton Place Studio

by JJWG on 2010-11-22The Studio at Hamilton Place - Hamilton

I took my 11 year old daughter to the show. I saw maybe 3 other fathers who did the same thing, I was surprised the audience age was generally late teens. After seeing the show I understand why. Lights is an extremely talented young lady, something the slightly older audience would appreciate more than an 11 year old. Lights is a tremendous keyboardist/vocalist. Her accoustc guitaring was also impressive. Most impressive was her ability to write catchy pop tunes and perform them with conviction. I am now a fan.

    Lights is so incredible!

by KTKT on 2010-11-21Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Toronto

Lights is so talented. I've seen her live a few times and she gets better and better each time. Her range is incredible. I love her shows! Michou is a bit weak, but they looked like they were having a good time. They gave out yellow balloons before their show and that was a fun touch. The Queen Elizabeth Theatre is a terrible venue. I felt like I was at a dance recital. And if I didn't love Lights so much, I think I probably would have bailed.

    Her future is so bright...

by Lidia on 2010-11-20Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Toronto

What can I say I had to wear shades. She was presented with her first gold album at the end of the concert and it was really special to be there to see history in the making.

The concert was awesome! It seemed like there wasn't a bad seat anywhere in the venue, and the sound quality was great. The only thing that i didn't like was that the security were very rude and lazy.

    Lights in hometown Toronto!

by ChopsticksX on 2010-11-19Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Toronto

Absolutely the best show by Lights I have seen so far! She has yet again blown me away since the first time I saw the performer at the Mod Club not knowing what kind of music she plays. But now, I am a big fan of Lights and her work. The venue was Queen Elizabeth Theater, it was my first time there and I was very impressed how nice and clean it was compared to the previous venues I have experienced Lights (Mod Club, Kool Haus). There were seats! Which by the way were very comfortable and relaxing. I sat in the balcony area in seats DD 13 which, for such a adequate venue makes you feel pretty exclusive with the performance. I was slightly disappointed at first but when she started performing and all the fans rushed up and created a blockade of joy for Lights, that's when I really appreciated the balcony seats fully. Michou was the only opening band for Lights and they performed spectacular as well. Free "Nice to Michou" balloons were handed out. Nonetheless the show and this review is about Lights, so as the headliner, she very much out shined the rest of the night. She began with one of her singles "Second Go" and the crowd burst into energy and hounded up towards the stage. Lights is one of the best entertainers Toronto has had to offer, she never gives the audience a dull moment. She enlightens and humors the crowd between songs and even amuses us with an acoustic cover of "Bed Intruder" after giving an inspirational speech about how a song can never by destroyed, never burned like literature. She silences the crowd with her emotional cover of "Behind Blue Eyes" by The Who. Her performance has been more and more superb each time I've seen her. Her light show along with her singing is as appropriate as her and Wonder Woman battling crime. It was really memorable to see her receive her GOLD Record for "The Listening" on stage, in her hometown, in front of her home crowd. She definitely deserves it, she is absolutely a gem of an artist. 15 thumbs up! She is definitely worth checking out in the future, she only gets better and better, so mark it on your musical agenda people! She will not disappoint! Lights, if you do happen to read this, keep making the music you do, T.O. <3's you.

    LIGHTS is always worth attending!!

by RockSolidMusic on 2010-10-26Edmonton Event Centre - Edmonton

This was the fifth occasion I have been awarded the chance to watch the fiery LIGHTS in action. At every event she leaves you desiring more. I can tell each show I have witnessed has had it's own highlights. This occasion she included 2 of the new acoustic tracks released this year (Romance Is... and Rancid's Fall Back Down) and 2 other songs(Up Up and Away and The Cactus in the Valley) she penned never before performed at a live venue in Canada, at least out west. Her opening acts are always just as unpredictable and part of the ever changing atmosphere at LIGHTS' shows. Mr. Fitzgerald did a solid job of opening for this ever developing young artist. I look forward to the next one.

    I Guess I'm a Super Fan

by Hiooo on 2010-10-21Edmonton Event Centre - Edmonton

The doors open at 7:00 and so, we arrive at 7:30. With such a small venue, there must not be a very long time for the show to start... 8:30 and the Opener, MBF, pops out to do his thing. Lack of drums, lack of any back up, leads to quite a boring and unimpressive opening. Seeing him do his thing was alright, but I didn't go to see an acoustic show. after 1 and a half hours of waiting, I was about ready to boo him off the stage, but I didn't. It was at this point where my friend insisted I was a super fan, which I denied, but during Light's performances I realized, yah I'm a super fan. 9:30 LIGHTS shows up and the room sparks up. After such a long time of settling the crowd has kind of lost their excitement, which Lights would bring back to us. Starting off with Second Go to jump start the crowd into it leading to her other more energetic songs : Lions, Ice, My Boots (New single, love it). With the small venue and close stage, it was easy for Lights to get the crowd into it with her energetic playing. Everyone wwas into it, and we all but forgot the 2 hours of waiting. After the initial excitement, the drummer and other keyboardist left, and Lights breaks out the acoustic guitar and starts getting a little more intimate with her soothing songs: Pretend, River, that acoustic single that I can't remember the name to. It was a nice 'lighter's in the air' moment, but that actually came later in the show. The slow intermission was over, and starts up again with her singles to get the energy levels up again with her singles: February Air, Saviour. There were little interludes of just music that lead into songs. Not really any keyboard solo's but they were great leads into the songs. She eventually made it through the entirety of "The Listening," which I sang along to every song, along with her other singles, and some covers, with the exception of Face Up, but that's ok, I don't like that song that much. She ended the concert with Drive My Soul, of course she did, what else would she end with. But wait, there's more. The Encore was a little set, first playing the cover Foot Loose, and then ending with what Lights reffered to as a lullaby for us. I''m not sure what the song was, but it was a nice slow song to end the night. Which I guess was a little after 11:00.
