About

LL COOL J is a two-time Grammy Award-winning hip-hop icon whose trailblazing career is singular in its longevity and accolades: 2021 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, millions of albums sold, the first rapper to receive a Kennedy Center Honor, successful actor and author, NAACP Image Award winner, co-founder/CEO of the Rock The Bells hip-hop festival and so much more. LL COOL J exploded onto the scene in the 1980s with pioneering hit singles like the rap-rock hybrid “Rock the Bells” and beatbox classics like “I Need a Beat” and “I Need Love.” The rapper’s confrontational, occasionally romantic lyricism would propel the genre to new heights on 1990’s multi-platinum Mama Said Knock You Out. Considered one of rap’s first superstars, LL COOL J has performed on sold-out tours with legends like Run-D.M.C., Janet Jackson and the Beastie Boys.

  • Stellar G.O.A.T!

by This Lady Loves Cool James on 2023-08-25Rating: 5 out of 5

I became a fan of LL Cool J when I was a shy, awkward teenager and Around The Way Girl hit the airwaves. I never heard a song where the rapper was talking about women in a non-derogatory way, and to be honest, that song helped me build my confidence and shape the woman I am today. Since then, I've been a fan of his work and this was my first time seeing him live. His show was off-the-hook! The Roots, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Queen Latifah, Monie Love, DJ Z-Trip, and Jadakiss brought their A-game and it was an entertaining show from beginning to end. LL still has star power and after all these years (35+ years to be exact), he still has the IT factor. His rhymes were on point, he was funny (pointing to a woman in the crowd and doing a little imitation of her, where you could see his acting humour:), and his smile at the end - just melted my heart. Only thing I wish he did, was perform some of his biggest hits like Mama Said Knock You Out and Doin' It in its entirety. But I understand, there wasn't a lot of time to crunch all of his hits in one show. Overall, 5 stars and can't wait to see him again!

  • Is it Toronto?

by DjGhost on 2023-08-23Rating: 4 out of 5

The F.O.R.C.E Tour made a stop at the Scotiabank Center in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on August 19, 2023. With headliners LL Cool J, The Roots and DJ Jazzy Jeff. When I first heard about this tour, I saw a lineup that would be considered an old-school hip-hop fans dream. This was also dubbed the 50 Years of Hip Hop tour as 2023 marks the Hip Hop cultures 50th anniversary. Some artists to appear on the tour included Queen Latifah, Big Boi, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Common, De La Soul, Doug E. Fresh, Slick Rick, Goodie Mob, Ice-T, Jadakiss, Juvenile, Rakim, Method Man and Red Man, all old school favourites. Each one a legend to the Hip Hop culture. After reading about such a potential lineup I instantly purchased my ticket for the original date of June 29, 2023. By the middle of May I received a notification that the date was going to be cancelled and rescheduled to August 19, 2023. The reason for the cancelation as I read online was that LL Cool J felt the show wasn't tight enough and some of the other acts had commitment problems, so he wanted to get things better. Just to be clear, the Toronto show wasn't the only one cancelled as there were several stops that faced the same rescheduling issue. The night before the Toronto show, the tour had made a stop in Detroit on August 18, 2023. Some of the acts included Common, Ice-T, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and MC Lyte. As a fan of hip hop this had me very excited to see the show happening the next day in my city. But as it turned out, we didn't get a line up even close to that. In addition to LL Cool J and The Roots, we got Queen Latifiah and Jadakiss...nothing wrong with Jadakiss, he's dope and I loved his set. But, if you're going to tell me that he was put in over Method Man, Red Man, or Rakim I'm not going to be impressed. What happened to our chance to see some of these other legends? It was like they said to LL, "Oh! Toronto Canada is next? I'll catch up with you all states side."I understand some of the artists may have legal issues crossing the border into Canada and that’s fine. There were many shows back in the 90's that faced the border crossing issues back then. This meant fans living in Canada missed out on a lot of legends back then. However, we're now 30 years later. I'm sure some of them could have gotten their legal affairs in order. It would only make sense as they get paid for appearances and would want to get as many appearances as possible to make that C.R.E.A.M. Toronto is the fourth largest city in North America, do they know they got fans up here? Listen, I’m not saying the show was bad at all. LL Cool J, Queen Latifah, The Roots, DJ Jazzy Jeff and Jadakiss, all put on five-star performances. Queen Latifah’s set even had a surprise guest appearance from Moni Love when they did the hit Ladies First. That was so incredibly dope! I can’t say enough about the sets. I loved each one of them, but as a fan of hip hop, growing up in the culture here in Toronto, I just feel we were overlooked. DJ Ghost
