  • A concert for longtime fans

by TedBop on 2009-10-11Queen Elizabeth Theatre - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of her first record the show was largely a retrospective of her early works up to Car Wheels On A Gravel Road. Longtime fans should have been pleased but those only familiar with her later work may have been somewhat dissapointed. If you're not familiar with Lucida live you may have found the vocals a bit muddy, primarily due to her delivery. If you expected to hear her as on the albums you would have been disapointed. If you have seen her before, her vocals were solid and at times displayed some real power. Unfortunately her band, Buick 6, just didn't seem to support it. Particularly Eric Schermerhorn's alt rock approach doesn't work with her earlier folk/country material. His solo's seemed out of place and didn't really gel. He's a fine guitarist, but the styles were at odds all night. In short, this was a concert for long time fans familiar with her early work and live performances. It probably wasn't a concert for those only familiar with her later work or those expecting a replication of the album material.

This was a real treat - the origins of her music and first half of her career. Engaging, intimate and backed by Buick 6 - a kick ass band And the QET is the coolest venue in TO

  • Lucinda was at her very best!!

by Lucyfan on 2009-10-11Queen Elizabeth Theatre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

I have seen Lucinda Williams about 8 times, and she is always awesome, but this was by far her best show ever. Her band was tighter than ever. Buick 6 rocks!
