Marianas Trench in Concert
Multi-Platinum selling progressive pop band Marianas Trench has been big news in Canada for years, and they caught on with US audiences in a major way following their acclaimed 2015 album Astoria, a slick collection of larger-than-life pop masterpieces that showcased their playful lyrical sensibility and knack for anthemic choruses. In concert, Marianas Trench is a whirlwind of emotion and attitude, rocking the stage with adrenaline-filled performances that put their tight musicianship front and center. Frontman Josh Ramsay is a born performer, and his energy is completely infectious as he sings his heart out on upbeat jams like "This Means War" and "Celebrity Status." The rest of the band keeps pace with lively performances that always leave fans thoroughly rocked and ready for more.
Marianas Trench Background
Marianas Trench was formed in Vancouver in 2001 by Josh Ramsay, a singer-songwriter and guitarist who previously fronted the group Ramsay Fiction. He joined forces with Matt Webb (lead guitar), Mike Ayley (bass), and Ian Casselman (drums), and Marianas Trench made their debut in 2002 with a self-titled EP. In 2006, the band released their full-length debut album Fix Me on 604 Records, which they supported with extensive touring across Canada. The album went gold in Canada, but its success paled in comparison to the band's 2009 sophomore LP Masterpiece Theatre, a Top 5 hit on the Canadian Albums Chart that established them as pop royalty virtually overnight. Their third album Ever After was equally well-received, cracking the Top 10 and earning a prestigious Juno Award nomination for Album of the Year, and earning the band the title of Juno Award winners for Group of the Year in 2013. Their fourth album Astoria earned them a 2016 Juno nomination for Group of the Year and unleashed the power ballad Who Do You Love. It also opened up Marianas Trench to the European market where the band toured twice in support of Astoria. Currently in the studio, Marianas Trench is hard at work putting the finishing touches on their 5th album set for release in early 2019.
Marianas is my favorite band and one of the best in Canada IMO. They didn't disappoint, great show & super fun. Thanks guys
The band was great. They sounded amazing. Stage presence lacked. I mean They probably can put it all in a van lacking.
I had seen Marianas Trench many times before and they’ve always been incredible. I cannot say the same for this show. Josh, the lead singer, sang less than 40% of the time and when he did you could barely hear him. He came in late to his own parts. His band seemed out of sorts with the behaviour. The whole performance was jarring and uncomfortable. Super disappointed.
Myself and my kids were disappointed as Joshua has performed alot better in the past and you can tell he was sick and struggling with his vocals. I actually felt bad for him but I would have preferred it if he cancelled the concert and rescheduled it.
This was such an awesome experience, the sound was awesome the performance amazing that I didn't want it to end! They really know how to put on a show!
Fun experience, played some good songs but definitely missed quite a bit. Were only on for about an hour or so. Maybe because the fanbase was a little boring but it was definitely a little sad. Love their music though.
Bought Marianas tickets at Rama as I’ve heard they’re good live and I love their music. I was honestly disappointed in the show they put on. While super nostalgic, Josh didn’t sing nearly as much as I would’ve liked to see. Many songs I felt were very mute. However, I still enjoyed myself and when he did sing it was really good. I’m hoping to see improvement at their next set.
They didn’t sing one complete song. The lead singer kept moving across the stage when he should have been singing. Left it all up to the crowd. It was not entertaining and I’m truly heartbroken. I’ve had been waiting to see them for years. It was devastating not to hear their beautiful voices.
Josh Ramsay only sang a couple of words per song. I didn’t come to listen to the audience sing while he walks around. I’ve seen them a bunch of times and was very disappointed.
We had a great time! This was the fourth time we’ve been to a Mariana’s Trench concert and they were amazing as always! Great venue, great experience!!
I’ve seen this band before at Rama and never experienced such terrible sound at a show as this one. Very disappointing
AMAZING!!!! We had such a good time. We had great seats and the show was so good!!!
I have loved them since the 5th grade and i was so excited to see them as an adult. Josh ramsay didnt disappoint. He went through the crowd the set list was amazing. All the band members blew me away. One of the happiest moments of my life.
I've seen Mariana's trench twice now and i swear they get better every time. Josh's vocals are always top notch and his little anecdotes along the way make for a stellar evening.
I went for my birthday and even thought my seats were all the way at the back I still had fun. Josh walked all the way to the back of the audience and leaned in for a selfie with my friend! Their music sounds amazing live and they're very charismatic and funny.
What an amazing show. I have no words... No literally I have no voice after Friday night. They killed it as usual. Can't wait for the next show!
Great show!! Such wonderful energy. They are so good live! We all had such a good time! Can’t wait til they come back!!
Biggest pain was trying to find parking as the entire area around the casino was gridlock and the garage was full when finally got there... made it in time for the show and they allowed first 2 rows to go right to front so it was great being right up close. They always put on a great show !
The band itself was really great. Super fun, energetic and overall it was a great experience. I will definitely go see them again one day. Having listened to them for much of my childhood it was so nice to be able to experience seeing them live and sing along to my favourite songs. You can tell they cared about fans and giving a good show. The opener Mico was really excellent too. It was fun being able to see him play. However the venue had issues with parking, the drink and merch lines were incredibly long, and the security line had only 2 metal detectors even with very long queues.
I was very disappointed that Josh's voice was so weak. He couldn't sing like he used to, and often skipped words. THis is the second time this has happened when i have seen them in concert. FIrst time I chocked it up to a busy tour, but not this time.
