About

Marianas Trench in Concert

Multi-Platinum selling progressive pop band Marianas Trench has been big news in Canada for years, and they caught on with US audiences in a major way following their acclaimed 2015 album Astoria, a slick collection of larger-than-life pop masterpieces that showcased their playful lyrical sensibility and knack for anthemic choruses. In concert, Marianas Trench is a whirlwind of emotion and attitude, rocking the stage with adrenaline-filled performances that put their tight musicianship front and center. Frontman Josh Ramsay is a born performer, and his energy is completely infectious as he sings his heart out on upbeat jams like "This Means War" and "Celebrity Status." The rest of the band keeps pace with lively performances that always leave fans thoroughly rocked and ready for more.

Marianas Trench Background

Marianas Trench was formed in Vancouver in 2001 by Josh Ramsay, a singer-songwriter and guitarist who previously fronted the group Ramsay Fiction. He joined forces with Matt Webb (lead guitar), Mike Ayley (bass), and Ian Casselman (drums), and Marianas Trench made their debut in 2002 with a self-titled EP. In 2006, the band released their full-length debut album Fix Me on 604 Records, which they supported with extensive touring across Canada. The album went gold in Canada, but its success paled in comparison to the band's 2009 sophomore LP Masterpiece Theatre, a Top 5 hit on the Canadian Albums Chart that established them as pop royalty virtually overnight. Their third album Ever After was equally well-received, cracking the Top 10 and earning a prestigious Juno Award nomination for Album of the Year, and earning the band the title of Juno Award winners for Group of the Year in 2013. Their fourth album Astoria earned them a 2016 Juno nomination for Group of the Year and unleashed the power ballad Who Do You Love. It also opened up Marianas Trench to the European market where the band toured twice in support of Astoria. Currently in the studio, Marianas Trench is hard at work putting the finishing touches on their 5th album set for release in early 2019.

yes, it would have been AMAZING! except for the fact they scheduled the concert for EXACTLY the same time as the Royal Winter Fair...so i couldnt see them. i would have bailed on the Royal Winter Fair (becuz i LOVE marianas trench! ♥) but my grandparents got tickets 6 months in advance to get good seats...so i did the right thing and went with them. but i am FREAKING OUT that i was actualy in the same building as marianas trench but i COULDNT SEE THEM!!!! i was too busy making my family happy by watching horses jump over sticks!! i think that people SHOULD NOT schedule a concert on THE SAME DAY and THE SAME TIME when another major thing is going on there.

  • Marianas Trench was cool

I never heard this band before going. I went with some friends, one of which is a huge fan. Anyway, yeah. The first three bands were okay. They were like hobby bands that were good. I respect them a lot for doing what they do, but they weren't anything special. However, Marianas Trench played fourth, and though they have a band name that sucks ass, they were awesome. They were really professional. I've seen Green Day concerts, a U2 360 tour concert, and a G n' R concert before so I think I'm hard to impress. But it was awesome. They had funny frontmanning, the singer was extremely talented, the songs were diverse and cool and the whole production, the lights, the sound, it was all really professional. Their t-shirt design could be better though. But I bought a t-shirt for each band as per my collection requires anyway. Anyway, yeah. If you are reading this and are wondering if you should go see their performance, go. They are good and the energy's awesome. Go. Good job boys. It's probably too late too change your band name though so oh well. It sucks ass, but you kick ass. SEATS INFO: Usually, the GA is real cool. However, there were a ton of little girls there and they were being little bastards and were trying to rush to the front. That was really annoying so I left and sat on the bleachers and had a much better time.

Okay. So I really loved it when Marianas Trench was performing. And by loved, I mean that it was TOTALLY AWESOME!! Note* that the MIDWAY STATE made a special performance first. But then, before everything else was "Meh,," I knew who illScarlet was but they were basically screaming their voices into the mic until their voices cracked & their faces were blue. Then, when Stereos was setting up, right after the Stereos drum kit got on stage, security had to be there to tell the crowd to back up. For God's sakes! It took me about 10 SONGS to get near the front of the crowd sea. Then Stereos was really disappointing. When they sang, they used autotune, but they lip synced too. THEY SUCKED. It made me feel I was just at a party where Stereos showed up. But then Marianas Trench ROCKED MY WORLD! They played every song on Masterpiece Theatre & Some other songs like Shake Tramp and Skin and Bones. I threw my water bottle on stage and JOSH RAMSAY DRANK FROM IT!! The band threw their drumsticks, waterbottles, stage papers/tape, etc. into the crowd. When MTrench came on the stage, it was clear that the people were only there for tTHEM since it was crazy how everyone knew the lyrics to most of the songs! AMAZING I'd love to give it 5 stars but Stereos really pissed me off. So yeahzz :)

  • Stereos were amazing!

The concert was amazing, but I feel that Marianas Trench played for a bit too long, though they were really good.

What an amazing concert for a great price, only $35!! ill Scarlett and Stereos pumped up the crowd and gave plenty of props to Marianas Trench. MT is so talented. Their acapella is entrancing. I could listen to their pure voices all night. They joked between numbers, gave us some personal info and interacted well with the all ages crowd (and there really were all ages). I went with my 14 year old daughter and there were a lot of parents with their kids as young as 7.
