About

MATT ANDERSEN IN CONCERT:

Canadian folk and blues musician Matt Andersen is one of the hardest working artists on the road, averaging upwards of 200 live performances a year. It's easy to see why audiences love him -- Andersen is an impressive force to behold at his authentic live shows, and his virtuoso guitar playing and powerful vocals are matched with an equally impressive knack for connecting with fans. Whether he's covering classics like "Ain't No Sunshine" or performing cuts from his 2014 album Weightless, Anderson's passion and showmanship always elevate his material to the next level on his must-see tours.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Hailing from the blue collar Canadian community of Perth-Andover, Matt Anderson got his start in 2002 with the band Flat Top. By the mid-'00s the budding bluesman was performing solo, honing the narrative-driven style he's become known for with extensive touring throughout the US and Canada. He made his album debut in 2007 with Second Time Around, following up with several acclaimed studio and live albums in 2008-09. He scored a considerable critical success in 2011 with the album Coal Mining Blues, which depicted working class stories from his hometown. In 2014 Anderson released the album Weightless to another round of critical praise, building excitement among fans for his continued touring.

Terrific show from top to bottom

by T. M. on 2023-04-02Club Regent Event Centre - Winnipeg

Starting with Hello Darlings, the opening act, to the headliner, Matt Anderson and The Bottle of Joy, it was an amazing evening. The talent displayed on stage by all musicians was top notch. Matt Anderson's solo acoustic numbers were especially impressive where he highlighted his vocal talents. Both acts are a must see!

Hello Darlins were a perfect choice as opening band for Matt Anderson. They delivered a heart-warming and at times, rockin' performance. I would definitely see them again! Matt Anderson gave us his usual powerhouse performance. His thought-provoking and down-to-earth lyrics along with little injections of humour made for a an amazing evening of entertainment. He's a must see!

Great concert! Good opening act, good venue, and Matt was well Matt. Had not seen him live since a solo performance at the Winnipeg Folk Festival quite a few years back. Love the whole new band concept he has put together. Well done Matt

Love the venue. Intimate setting and the sound was great!

by Geffey on 2022-03-31L'Astral - Montréal

I've been waiting 2 years to see Matt Andersen, after being postponed due to Covid. He did not disappoint! Matt performed like a real pro and I loved how engaging he was with the audience. The only criticism of the venue would be how close together the seats were. I understand it's a small space but with this being the first time in a public setting in so long, I thought there could be a little space between seats. I was touching shoulders with my neighbor and it was a little uncomfortable. Other than that I would recommend L'Astral as a perfect setting to see a concert up close and personal.

Matt Anderson always sounds fantastic live but he was in extra fine form for this night. Great stories, laughs, appreciative of the audience, and belting it out like there was not tomorrow. Totally enjoyable!

Had to give up my ticket & I hear I missed the BEST concert

by Jealous on 2019-12-24National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Due to a family emergency, I had to be out of town and give up my front row ticket to a friend of my girlfriend's. I'm typically a generous person, but having to forfeit my ticket to see Matt Anderson was the worst!! The girls went and by both accounts, it was one of the best concerts they had each ever seen. I'm not surprised, as I have been a fan for years now. The NAC in Ottawa is an awesome place to see a show, and the double whammy would have been to get to see Mr. Anderson shredding and belting it out on stage there. I will keep my eyes peeled for his return and will be there to soak it all in next time!

    An awesome show

by Kevin on 2019-12-23National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I am a bit embarrassed to admit it, but I had never heard of Matt Andersen. A friend suggested we check out his Christmas show at the NAC and after watching a few videos on YouTube I jumped at the opportunity to see Matt live. I was not disappointed. Matt and his band were awesome as were all his special guests, i.e. Joey Landreth, Terra Lightfoot, and William Prince. An amazing showcase of Canadian talent and great way to celebrate Christmas.

    Best concert ever

by JL on 2019-12-23National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

What a great performer Matt Andersen is! He is an awesome singer and guitar player! He also gives a lot of praise and highlights the talents of his band members, which is very genuine. His playlist was a mixture of Christmas tunes and some of his absolute best songs. LOVED I'm Giving In with only him singing with a piano accompaniment, and of course Devil's Bride rocked the house. Brilliant concert.
