MATT ANDERSEN IN CONCERT:

Canadian folk and blues musician Matt Andersen is one of the hardest working artists on the road, averaging upwards of 200 live performances a year. It's easy to see why audiences love him -- Andersen is an impressive force to behold at his authentic live shows, and his virtuoso guitar playing and powerful vocals are matched with an equally impressive knack for connecting with fans. Whether he's covering classics like "Ain't No Sunshine" or performing cuts from his 2014 album Weightless, Anderson's passion and showmanship always elevate his material to the next level on his must-see tours.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Hailing from the blue collar Canadian community of Perth-Andover, Matt Anderson got his start in 2002 with the band Flat Top. By the mid-'00s the budding bluesman was performing solo, honing the narrative-driven style he's become known for with extensive touring throughout the US and Canada. He made his album debut in 2007 with Second Time Around, following up with several acclaimed studio and live albums in 2008-09. He scored a considerable critical success in 2011 with the album Coal Mining Blues, which depicted working class stories from his hometown. In 2014 Anderson released the album Weightless to another round of critical praise, building excitement among fans for his continued touring.

by Arsvargon on 2023-04-04Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

Acoustics could have been better due to volume and venue. BUT, But Matt and the band were pumped. The Hello Darlins were also great. The night was electric. The performers all had high energy. The crowd was thrilled.

    Unreal

by Okeyfrommuskokey on 2023-04-04Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

I thought I was going to see Matt Anderson alone when I bought the tickets. It turned out that he was with a band called The Big Bottle of Joy. I was concerned I wouldn’t get to see what I wanted to see. As it turned out, the band was unbelievable. Extremely tight and clear as day world class musicians. Matt also took the stage alone for a few songs and they were as advertised. Unreal. “Ain’t no sunshine” was better than any version I saw on you tube. He finished the night with “A little help from my friends” and he owned it. I HIGHLY recommend this show.

I thought it would be great but it was even better than that

by Sharky on 2023-04-04Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

Superb musician and songwriter with a captivating, powerful voice and a very accomplished guitarist. Piano keyboard player was amazing. Matt possesses a unique sense of humour as well. The Hello Darlin’s were a solid local band as well and a great choice by Matt for his opening act!!

How can you not like Matt? Volume in was an issue for us.

by D. H. on 2023-04-04Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

The opening act was very enjoyable. Great musicians and great vibe. Matt and band were Way too loud for us. We must be getting old. Loved Matt when he was doing his solo piece. He can bring it with just himself on stage. Again - volume was an issue when all band was playing. Artistry of band is not debated.

Good show though sound was too loud.

by Kate on 2023-04-04Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

Having seen Matt sing solo in a smaller venue a few years ago , we were very excited to see him in Calgary at the Jubilee Auditorium. We were somewhat disappointed with the sound as it was often too loud and Matt’s voice was muffled. When he sang his solo set, it was much better! His band is great , though I think the sound man failed in provided a true appreciation of their talent . Regardless, it was still a worthwhile performance!

So disappointed by the extreme noise

by RMc on 2023-04-04Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

We were very disappointed after waiting for this concert to find that the amplification of all the guitars and keyboards completely obliterated our ability to really enjoy Matt's fabulous voice. Only the accoustic set was clear, It amazes us how such a perfect acoustical venue like the Jubilee would have sound techs turn the noise up to such an overwhelming level. My Apple Watch kept warning that the noise level was over 100Decibels... completely unnecessary.

Hello Darlins opening was refreshing and new.

by Katie on 2023-04-04Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

Matt Andersen has a fantastic voice and it, and his poetic verses, were lost in the overly loud sound of the band. The music was fine, but the instruments were too loud. We really enjoyed when Matt sang solo, without the band.

    Matt Andersen’s concert

by MW on 2023-04-04Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

Thankfully Matt Andersen has one heck of a voice so when the sound man/women is off (and boy was he/she was off for most of the concert) Matt stepped it up. The sound for the openers was pitchy and off for the first 3 songs and the first 2 for Matt Andersen as well. Matt Andersen and his band thought is absolutely something you must see. They jive really well as a band and when Matt starts his solo’s hold onto your seat you’re in for the real show. So glad we got to see him

    Matt Anderson Show

by Kj on 2023-04-04Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

The levels were far too loud. It was a full show at the Jubilee, and I was really excited for this show but my girlfriend and I left only five songs in because our ears couldn't take it anymore.

Only ever seen Matt at folk fest before. Still enjoy just Matt and his guitar the very best. The 3 acoustic songs in the middle were worth the 150km drive and ticket price. Matt is the Best!

    Matt Andersen and friends

by KathyB on 2023-04-03Club Regent Event Centre - Winnipeg

This was my first concert at the Casino Regent. I will admit, I much preferred the mini-acoustic set which Matt did over those parts which were done at > 100 decibels. The band consisted of excellent musicians and their obvious joy at playing together was palatable. The opening act Hello Darlin was good but again I preferred the quiet harmonies and acoustic instruments over the rock band output. It all seemed a bit too amped up for a venue of that size (~800 seats?). It would work playing on open main stage at the folk festival but indoors, that was less pleasant.
