Meatloaf is a lemon and I want my money back!

by mechafan on 2016-06-20Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

As everyone knows Meatloaf collapsed while performing "I'd Do Anything For Love". It should be "I'd Do Anything For Money". The appeal of Meatloaf was always his powerful singing, but sadly his voice is shot and he vacillated between incomprehensible mumbling and sounding strangely like Elmer Fudd. While the band was solid and Cian Coey's vocals helped carry the show, it wasn't nearly enough to make up for Meatloaf's laughable vocals. It really is time for him to retire before he totally destroys his great legacy.

Once a great.....but, just sad now!

by Lalaloo on 2016-06-20Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

Meatloaf had some GREAT, unforgettable hits in the late 1970s- that amazing voice, so strong and theatrical, is absolutely gone! It was just very sad! Don't know why anyone felt Meatloaf could still carry a concert- no melody, or harmony, or a singing voice whatsoever.....I'm a fan, and don't want to be harsh! But, I'm just being real. So sad that he needed to go out on tour, for the earnings- instead of living a quiet happy retirement. Then the collapse, heartbreaking! Sad,sad, sad!

    Meatloaf

by Retirement2016 on 2016-06-19Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

I was at the concert that Meatloaf collapsed in Edmonton. What a very unfortunate situation. Prior to his issues, I was thoroughly enjoying the concert, it brought back many fantastic memories!! Although his voice was not like it was in him prime, I wasn't expecting it to be. He did extremely well and on a couple of songs you could hear his voice like it used to be. Every summer I take a road trip and never, ever leave without my Meatloaf CD. I wish him all the best and best wishes for good health in the future.

Sound Mixer needs to find a new job.

by tinpar on 2016-06-19Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

MeatLoaf as usual was awesome, however whoever was doing his sound needs help. There were several times where the instruments overpowered the singing that you couldn't even understand the words MeatLoaf & his lady singer were singing. When you could hear them, even though MeatLoaf's voice was raspy at times, it was still so much more enjoyable, which shows that the sound could be mixed correctly, but was very inconsistent. Even though the concert ended when MeatLoaf collapsed, I very much enjoyed him! His band was great too, just the sound needed help! PS Get Better Soon MeatLoaf!

    Time to retire :-(

by Linzinator on 2016-06-19Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

The whole performance was quite strained. Feel like the band was over powering him on purpose. The great Meatloaf passed out on stage !! It was horrible.

    I WANT MY MONEY BACK

by Moester3 on 2016-06-19Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

I was going to share a lot more about how horrible this concert experience was, however due to the fact that Meatloaf had a medical incident and was taken to the hospital towards the end of the concert pretty much says it all. Clearly, he was physically not able to perform the night we saw him and his voice is shot! Meatloaf was a great entertainer - key word "was". We should have read all the previous negative reviews prior to buying tickets as there is a common thread among them. It is apparent that this has been going on for a long time - poor concerts, unable to sing, medical issues on stage. His talented back-up singer and band continually "rescued" him when he couldn't sing or remember the words. His tour manager and people close to him should be ashamed that they keep encouraging this man to tour. It was a sad thing to watch and I was actually embarrassed for him. It is going to take a long time to erase the memory from my mind and remember the Meatloaf of days gone by. If you watch the footage of him collapsing, his singing continues while he is laying on the stage - far away from his microphone - which is an indicator that he was lip synching to some of his songs. We walked out 50 minutes into the concert because it was not getting any better. Time to hang it up Meatloaf! It is not fair to your fans to keep touring and taking their hard earned money if you are unable to perform.

    Time to Retire

by Cutless on 2016-06-19Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

Did not enjoy the concert at all. The music was so loud that you couldn't hear his voice and he sometimes sang off key. The hobbled around the stage like an old man and it was really sad to see knowing the performer that he used to be. We left before he collapsed on the stage and I am glad as I wouldn't have liked to have seen that.

    Meat Loaf Dissappointing

by HR2014 on 2016-06-19Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

First I must say I am glad that he is OK. I love Meat loafs music but this show was a big disappointment. The music was so loud that you could not hear the words to the songs. The backup singers or the fans did most of the singing. When Meat loaf was talking we could barley understand what he was saying his voice was almost gone. The sound system was bad, it got a little bit better as the night went on but not much. Very short concert not worth anyway near the money we paid for our tickets. We saw people leaving even my wife wanted to leave but I thought it would get better but it didn't.

    Meatloaf was terrible

by Anonymous on 2016-06-19Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

I first saw Meatloaf perform in August of 1978 and it was an outstanding performance. I took my daughter to his current concert, hoping to show her this rock 'n roll icon still had it. Unfortunately, whatever he had is now gone, and he should be too. This was one of the worst performances I've ever witnessed. Meatloaf has lost his voice, the lyrics couldn't keep up with the music, he forgot words to songs, and was just overall horrible. I realize he was sick, and collapsed during his encore, but that cannot excuse just how terrible his own performance was. Time has not been good to him ... time to hang it up for this old rocker.

    Good show

by Poopsy50 on 2016-06-19Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

Hard to review this, the poor guy was ill obviously. Might have been better to have just rescheduled the show. However, in saying that, I really enjoyed most of his performance when I could hear his voice.

    Absolutely terrible!

by cheddarcheese on 2016-06-19Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

This was by far THE worst concert I have been to out of hundreds of live venues! You could not hear any of the words he was " talking" he's way past singing the words. His only saving grace was his incredible back up singer she carried him the entire night! He should of never taken this tour as it was apparent from the very beginning he wasn't well, often crouched over while walking from one side of the stage to the other. We were going to leave after the third song but after a $400 night and 5 hours of our life we will never get back. It was unfortunate that he collapsed as nobody wishes that on a performer. He really need to stop touring as he really has lost his singing voice and it's very unfair to his fans that pay REAL money in these hard economic times.

    Hope he feels better

by Leduc on 2016-06-19Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

The backup singer has a strong voice. I give the benefit as his voice was weak and not on key. This was the show were hydration was needed and he could not finish the show. I coulda, shoulda gone see him earlier. But, He was very appreciative of the fans during the show and was a treat to see him perform.

    Tough night for Meat Loaf

by VeryPleasedFan on 2016-06-19Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

Well that was an interesting night. I was really looking forward to seeing Meat Loaf in concert...have been a fan for 25 years. The venue was great, the band was awesome, but Meat Loaf was really disappointing. In fairness, they say he was ill and dehydrated going into the concert, but most of the night he seemed dis-oriented, forgot lyrics, and did not sound good at all. While I will cut him some slack because he is 68 years old, there is no way he should be charging $125/ticket for that show. If it wasn't for the band, some of the songs would have been unrecognizable based on his singing. I'm still a fan of his recorded music and always will be. I think someone is his camp should pull him aside and say, "hey, you've had a great career, perhaps it is time to hang up the guitar". I sincerely hope he is recovering well after collapsing on the stage, but it might be time for him to retire and enjoy the next phase of his life. That's just one person's opinion, but unfortunately, I was disappointed.

Well....Meatloaf is someone whose music I've loved for many many years....but unfortunately the concert was not the greatest. First off, his sound people did the worst job I've ever heard at any concert I've been to (and I've been to a lot)....he needs to fire them. Meatloaf gave a good effort, but you can hear his struggle with the notes. The band played well and the female singer would've been better if the sound people didn't destroy the levels on her microphone. But I've always wanted to see him live and I did...bucket list checked.

Too late to Tour, buy the CD

    by braxton99 on 2016-06-15MTS Centre - Winnipeg

very disappointed, lead singer has no vocal range left and sound quality was poor. Band was OK and the younger duet/backup singer was good, but definitely not good value. Eventually we heard all the old favourites, but the lead was very weak and only the band & backup singer made it partly enjoyable.

    Disappointed in Meatloaf

by JacquieGB on 2016-06-14MTS Centre - Winnipeg

I realize that it's difficult to maintain the power & strength of original songs but both my husband & I felt we'd be better off listening to a recording of them rather than spending money to see someone who could barely stand; let alone entertain a crowd. The show was short & the band did not play to the crowd the way other bands have.

    Terrible performance

by Shitty on 2016-06-13MTS Centre - Winnipeg

Band and back up singers really good! The big guy was horrible. Could nt sing a song in the right tune. He butchered every song I loved! If your not able to perform you should never go on tour.....time to retire!

    Great Entertainer

    by Biggles007 on 2016-06-13MTS Centre - Winnipeg

I have never seen Meat Loaf before and I was impressed with the whole show. His rendition of Paradise by the Dashboard lights was hilarious and was one of the highlights of the show. As he mentioned, he is 68 years old and does not sing like he did at 20 so don't expect that. I still had a great time and pulled out my bic for 2 out ot 3 ain't bad. He sang his classics and some new stuff. The band and female vocalist were superb. At the end of the concert some lucky people got T shirts blasted from a cannon. An old school concert worth it. You still rock Meat Loaf!
