About

Metallica was formed by drummer Lars Ulrich and singer/guitarist James Hetfield in Los Angeles in 1981; since then, their astonishing career milestones include winning eight Grammys and selling over 125 million albums worldwide, including the critically-acclaimed Master of Puppets (1986), often cited as one of the most important metal albums in history. They are also one of the most popular and commercially successful touring acts in history — according to Pollstar, as of 2019 Metallica had sold over 22 million tickets and grossed $1.4 billion in touring since 1982. Metallica’s fifth studio album, Metallica (1991), famously known as The Black Album, has sold more than 30 million copies worldwide and features some of the band’s biggest hits: “Nothing Else Matters,” “The Unforgiven” and “Enter Sandman.” On six consecutive genre-defining studio albums (from 1991’s Metallica through 2016’s Hardwired… to Self-Destruct), Metallica has consistently debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. In support of their 2023 album 72 Seasons, Metallica’s M72 World Tour will see the band playing two nights in every city they visit throughout 2023-24.

Metallica Live (And Nothing Else Matters)

by TimW on 2009-10-13MTS Centre - Winnipeg

This is the second time I've seen Metallica live and this show was better than the last. The setlist was fantastic (especially since we got to see them play The Unforgiven for the first time in 17 years and Damage Inc. For the first time in 23 years) the light show and pyro were really impressive and the energy that they put into the show blew me away. These are four guys who love what they do and it shows on stage. Gojira and Lamb of God weren't that strong as opening acts, though, that may just be because I'm not a fan of either band (there were a lot of Lamb of God fans who seemed to enjoy themselves) All in all, it was a memorable night and I hope they don't wait 5 years before they come back to Winnipeg.

Metallica was as good as ever

by Uppercut on 2009-10-13MTS Centre - Winnipeg

They had a solid compilation of both new and old songs. The laser show was very cool. It's the first time that I've been to a show where they used cordless instruments. It allowed them to use the full stage without any sort of restriction on movement, in turn allowing them to really play to the audience. End result: more energy from the performers, which lent to a more intense experience. First Metallica show that I've ever been to, but won't be my last.

    Metallica forgets their thrash roots.

by GrimFrostbitten on 2009-10-13MTS Centre - Winnipeg

I went in expecting Metallica to pay a little more attention to what made them so famous in the long run. They just about completely ignored their first 4 albums. And it seems the fans agree with what Metallica has become. Everything post Black album garnered the most response. Music from the legendary days? Stood still like a stone. Overall production was very cool and the rotating coffins were something to behold. But musically Metallica doesn't have it anymore. Thrash legends Slayer and Megadeth were much better show with emphasis on what the real fans love. Gojira and Lamb of God were my biggest highlights, especially Gojira since they weren't really advertised.

These guys are the real deal. Total classy act. I really enjoyed that he didn't feel like he needed to say the F-word a million times like Lamb of God did. Metallica rules!

    ***** Metallica was Awesome*****

by Eriksdale on 2009-10-13MTS Centre - Winnipeg

Finally they arrived in Winnipeg on Oct 12th, after a whole summer of waiting. It was well worth the 2 hour drive to see them. Still can't believe we got 6 tickets since they sold out in 7 minutes, and that was with slow dial up. The opening was the best with the laser light show, later the warmth of the fire was felt on my face, even up in the 300 section. It was actually pretty amazing up there because we could view the entire arena and watch the people respond, which was excellent. I think everyone one in attendance would be in complete agreement that it was awesome and unforgettable concert. Upset that others could sneak in cameras, but I couldn't have one.

    Metallica

by Denythemaker on 2009-10-13MTS Centre - Winnipeg

They rushed through their old stuff which people wanted to hear and played way to much new stuff which nobody wanted to hear. Guitars were turned down and drowned out by the base. Wecome Home sanitarium, battery, these songs were non existant. And whats with the balloons at the end??? Whose B_day was it???
