Metric was AMAZING! So much energy and presense on stage. The venue... well that is Massey Hall; poor visibility is the norm!

    Metric was fantastic

by Arbma on 2009-10-21Massey Hall - Toronto

Emily is so full of energy, i just don't know how she keeps it going... They are fantastic and this is the third time i've seen them in the last year and I just hope they keep sticking to the smaller venue.

Amazing but have a few comments

by JoniK on 2009-10-21Ottawa Civic Centre - Ottawa

Metric is bottom line one of the best bands out there. We went to the Metropolis show on Oct.16th and found that performance was better. I'm quite surprised that there are sooo many shows back to back. The one issue we had was the setlist was almost identical. The songs were juts in a different order. A few of us screemed Rock Me Now, but I don't think it sat well with the band. I guess I'll just have to remember the 2007 Vfest performance of Rock Me Now.

    Metric vs Stills?

by J3NN on 2009-10-20Ottawa Civic Centre - Ottawa

I really enjoyed Metric! The put on a much better show then they did at Bluesfest, and I am thankful that that is the main reason I went. As for the Stills? What was up with the lighting? Or should I say what lighting? I was kinda disturbed that their entire show was lit by only the neon lamps, or whatever they were. But once again just brings me back to thankfully I was there for Metric, who put on an AMAZING show!

    Metric/Stills great performance

by cwfjkrc on 2009-10-20Ottawa Civic Centre - Ottawa

Metric put on a great performance that got the crowd on their feet and moving to the tunes. It was over two hours of pure energy as Emily Haines belted out the band's classics and danced around the stage. No one walked away disappointed.

    Metric can really rock

by Ttam on 2009-10-20Ottawa Civic Centre - Ottawa

The Stills felt like they weren't sure whether to chill out or rock out, but managed to do a bit of both, although the 'mood lighting' meant there wasn't a lot to see. Metric were great at Bluesfest, but even better indoors where the sound works so much better. These guys really know how to produce a polished, energetic rock performance.

    METRIC WAS AMAZING!!

by fly00 on 2009-10-20Ottawa Civic Centre - Ottawa

As always Metric put on a great show. High energy performance with a flowing set list of their best songs. It was well worth the wait until the end for my favorite song Combat Baby, that came as a pleasant surprise in an acoustic version, just beautiful. Can't wait to see them again.

    Metric was awesome

by Indiefantastic on 2009-10-20Ottawa Civic Centre - Ottawa

The Stills opened for Metric in Ottawa. The Stills were "eh" but Metric brought the house down. They were professional, energetic, and played all their best songs in my opinion. As I've seen since moving to Ottawa, the crowd was super into it and the band really fed off of their positive energy to make a great show. I would definitely go again even though I've never been a Metric superfan. I'm a more enthusiastic fan now and the venue was actually really great as far as the size and acoustics and ease of getting there. Strongly recommended for all!

Metric always puts on a great show, and I would recommend everyone go see them. If they come to Ottawa 3 times a year, Im there 3 times a year. They really put on a great show everytime and everyone should see them live at least once.

    Metric in Ottawa

by brad123 on 2009-10-20Ottawa Civic Centre - Ottawa

Certainly this experience would have been different weather you were sitting in the stadium seats or standing on the floor. Since I was standing on the floor, I will give you my impression. The opening band, The Stills were very good. Their timing was great, pitch was pretty good and the harmonies were locked on. However, most of their songs are slower melodies which made it hard to appreciate them in a stadium setting. I was really close to the front, and I felt that I would have appreciated them far more in a smaller venue. Their songs seemed to drag by and during some of them I became very bored. Some moments outshone others. For example, their song "Snakecharming The Masses" features intense 6/8 drumming and deep melodic droning that created a haunting trans which really engaged the audience. Unfortunately this engagement died off in the middle of the song when it failed to release the building tension. Over all, a pretty good performance on their part....not the right venue. As for Metric, I was DYING for them to arrive on stage and when they did, it was like the last bell ringing at the end of the day before summer. "Twilight Galaxy" was a good choice to start off the show and really put the audience into the palm of their hands. Her hair was blowing from a fan below, wispy and light...Emily seemed to float like a ghost. Her eyes would open wide and she would stare frighteningly into the audience conveying the essence of the song. Stars receding into the backdrop sucked us into the dream. They created an experience by the use of light, imagery to a soft but dark song which gradually became giant and 'galactic' for lack of a better work. Each song nicely morphed into the next taking us to different places and leading us down wet glossy alleyways shining from starlight. Also the acoustic ending of the show was beautiful and had hundreds of people singing, almost as if we were all together at a camp fire or kitchen party. It was very humble and really made them seem less like elevated superstars and more like regular musicians that in the end, really just want to share their music. One downfall though....I did see metric last April at Pandemonium when their album was not released and their was a genuine sense of excitement about the music coming from the band which I didn't feel in this performance. I suppose it is an inevitable reaction since I have been listening to the album all summer and they have been performing the same songs all summer as well. Now, their material is far more seasoned but because of the newness the last time I saw them, I was slightly let down. I feel like they might be getting bored of playing the same songs over and over again, and that comes through unintentionally by them. It probably happens for many bands on tour.

    Love those hippies!

by Stillness on 2009-10-20Ottawa Civic Centre - Ottawa

Metric put on such a good show, I just love to sing along with Emily, and I'm not even a hippie!! I'm so happy that they come to Ottawa so often, and they choose great venues. I love going to shows at the civic centre... way better venue than the bank. They played ALL of their hit songs, there's no possible way you could be disappointed with this show. Also, the proposal during the Stills concert was pretty cute. Hope she said yes!

Rocked the faces under our faces off.

by Einna on 2009-10-20Ottawa Civic Centre - Ottawa

They were great, both bands. Rocked the show. Metric was perfect and the lead singer works well with the crowd. Would recommend people to go see this show. And, in Toronto and Montreal it will probably be even better since the crowd might respond more. In Ottawa, sometimes the crowd is a little shy. Best concert ending I have seen in a long time.

    Deaf and blind from awesomeness!!

by Jaspur on 2009-10-20Ottawa Civic Centre - Ottawa

The only reason I gave it a 4, is because the stills were a little off it seemed.

    Metric = phenomenal show

by Dude16 on 2009-10-20Ottawa Civic Centre - Ottawa

Metric rocked our faces off as usual. Emily and the boys know how to put on a good show. Played all of our favourites (except Hustle Rose...) and the crowd was great.

Disliked the venue, the fact that it was an all ages show, and the fact that it was on a monday night. Wasn't feeling it.
