About

LAURYN HILL IN CONCERT:

As a member of the Fugees and a decorated solo artist, the legendary Ms. Lauryn Hill broke new ground for female artists in hip hop, becoming one of the most dominant musical figures of the '90s and the first hip-hop artist to take home a Grammy for Album of the Year. With new material and a critically-acclaimed tour in 2013, Hill proved she hasn't lost her edge – or her voice – taking the stage with a full backing band and breathing new life into her catalog of hits with updated arrangements, extensive improvisation, and dramatic readings of her socially conscious verses.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Do not sleep on Lauryn! She is back. She was on point! This is what music has been missing!"

"The vibe was continuously raised to higher heights. What is quickly apparent is that this is no traditional act – from the beginning a very unique and nostalgic vibe is set through the familiar set list, but against brand new arrangements that drive the classic material head first into the multi-genre-infused present."

"Epic performance by Lauryn Hill. She killed it in every way possible. So happy I was able to be a part of it."

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Hill rose to international fame when the Fugees' seminal 1996 album The Score topped charts around the world, earning a Grammy for her spellbinding cover of Roberta Flack's "Killing Me Softly." The group’s dissolution in 1997 did nothing to hinder her success – 1998’s The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, her only solo studio album to date, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, landed a No. 1 single with “Doo Wop (That Thing)”, and took home five Grammys, including Album of the Year. A seasoned performer, Hill continued to impress fans in 2013 with her substance-over-style approach, building excitement for the much-anticipated 2014 release of her sophomore album Letters From Exile.

    Ms Lauren Hill sans Fugees

Lauren Hill and The Fugees remain amazing. This show just wasn’t all that we were expecting 🤷🏻‍♀️

    Not a typical Concert

by Long time fan on 2023-10-30Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

I was hoping for Lauryn Hill to sing her entire songs so I can sing along with her. I’ve never seen her in concert, so I was a bit disappointed there. She does more of an artist ad lib and mixes songs. She stayed in one spot the entire time and didn’t move on stage. When Wyclef came on, Lauryn Hill came out of her shell - danced and sang all the fugees songs .. he saved the day

    Late, But Great Show

by Gigi on 2023-10-30Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

It goes without saying that Lauryn Hill is a very talented artist. Her show was great. She used different media (video, live performance, guest performers, talking to the audience) to keep the audience engaged. I loved the female DJ (DJ Reborn) that she brought to open her show. DJ Reborn was fantastic, as she was very skilled, engaging, beautiful, and had amazing energy. My only issue with Lauryn's concert is that she arrived 1 1/2 hours late. She has supposed to perform at 8:30 p.m. and arrived on the stage at 9:55 p.m. This is very disrespectful to her fans and supporters' time. In her own words, "RESPECT IS JUST THE MINIMUM". Do better!!!!!!

    Terrible

The sound was horrible, I couldn't hear anything she said. The show started 2 hours late. The whole experience was disappointing.

worst concert i’ve ever been to

by kiki on 2023-10-30Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

unbelievable that she wouldn’t make it clear that she wasn’t ACTUALLY going to play the album that she was touring. insanely poor performance, couldn’t understand what she was saying (i’m 21 years old), didn’t play any of the originals, tried to plug her sons music career. it was horrible. wish i could forget it and still love the album.

    Disappointed

by Lauren Hill on 2023-10-29Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

I had high expectations to see Lauren Hill with her hair down sitting with her guitar at some point through her concert being natural/raw authentic. That didn't happen, and I was sadly disappointed that she changed up some of her classic hits so much I barely recognized the songs at first. The best part of the concert for me was when Wyclef came on. At least I enjoyed some of it!

    Microphone required tuning

by Music Child on 2023-10-29Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

The microphone for Ms. Hill required proper tuning as you could barely hear her voice and lyrics since it was mostly inaudible because the band and musical instruments were way louder than the sound emanating from her microphone. The sound engineers need to do a better job and should have tested the microphone before the concert started. Was not impressed at all considering the exorbitant price of the ticket.

    Better late …?

by AiMee on 2023-10-29Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

2 hrs late is a long time to wait, then an intermission. Wyclef Jean brought the atmosphere & party. Lauryn Hills voice was iconic !

    Such an incredible show !

by Amanda on 2023-10-29Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

Lauryn Hill and the Fugees it was my kid dream come true to see you live ! In Toronto Canada when I was a little kid I grew up in a very religious household and I was not allowed to listen to your CDs yet I bought them and I would hide down the road in the trees and play your albums on repeat !!! Thank you for all you've done and all you are it was such an honour to get to watch you perform 💗💗

    Outstanding!!!

by Mich on 2023-10-29Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

I’m still on a musical high! Everything including, Ms. Hill’s DJ, the visuals that made us feel like we were in her living room looking through a family photo album, the orchestra, Wyclef, and of course Ms. Hill, as well as a moment including her son. It just kinda felt like, your musical genius of a friend putting on an unforgettable experience!

    Great night

by Charm on 2023-10-29Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

The 1st half of the show seemed to have sound issues. Could not really hear singing. The 2nd half was so good and the crowd really got into it. Wish that the concert started on time as we missed the ending as we had to catch our train. Overall it was a great concert and she is an amazing artist.

    So good

by Peaches on 2023-10-29Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

I loved her. The performance by DJ Reborn to open the show was lit asf. The only thing I could really say was the crowds energy could have been better but obviously that’s no fault of Scotiabank Arena. Overall 10/10 I’d see Ms. Lauryn Hill and The Fugee’s again any day.

Lauryn Hill concert was great... Once it finally started.

by JJMAC on 2023-10-29Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

We loved it -- had a great time. Would have had a better time if it had started an hour and twenty minutes earlier. It's not cool to keep people waiting like that.

Great concert! We had great seats! The only thing that we were disappointed about was the one artist was unable to attend.

    Not worth the $$$$

by PJ on 2023-10-29Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

Sound was awful, couldn’t hear a single song until Wyclef came out. Show started way too late, we left (along with thousands of others) while they were still playing at 1140 so you draw your own conclusions. Pras stuck at immigration - um, ya….have you seen what he’s charged with? Of course they’re not letting him in. Come on.

The sound was trash but the vibe was right

by Ms. Lauryn Hill stand on 2023-10-29Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

Apart from the late start of the show I truly believe that Ms Lauryn Hill always and forever will do the best she can with what she's got. The touring DJ was mediocre at best I feel like she didn't really understand things that torontonians want to hear to hype them up before a show. Lighting was amazing and beautiful. The sound for Lauryn's solo set was trash, it seems to improve for the Fugees part of the show. I think that had her set been more clear and we were able to hear her better, I think it would have been a much better experience. That being said, she'll always get five stars from me.

    Her vocals were very weak

by Hip-hop Show Pro on 2023-10-29Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

She should not have headlined. It should have been a Fugees headline show, with each member doing the odd solo cut. The first hour (after her 90min late delay) was awful: her vocals were karaoke-style with no high-note range, the BPMs were sped up for some reason, and she clearly had stage anxiety. Thank god Wyclef showed up around 1105pm. Lol.

    Awesome!

by benzgurl on 2023-10-29Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

Lauren Hill is WOW!!! Amazing talent amazing voice, brought me right back to my youth, and she sung the hell out of all my favourites!! Absolutely loved the show! It was so great to see her reunite with the fugees! So glad we got the opportunity. Highly recommend definitely go see Miss Hill! The only reasons for 4 stars not 5 is she was very late (which we expected) however we thought there would be some other entertainment in her place….. she did have a very talented DJ go up before her, but the concert started at 7:30 and even the DJ didn’t go up until around 9/9:30 and no other opening acts… Lauren didn’t hit the stage until around 10 possibly even 10:15. We knew she would be fashionably late but would have appreciated some more entertainment go up while we were waiting for the Queen!
