    The Neverending Story

by Dadof2 on 2020-02-20National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Great story line, messaging, special effects and creativity in a very special production well-suited for kids and caregivers alike. Recommend enthusiastically, unequivocally and unreservedly.

    Low Budget Amateur Hour

by Brian on 2020-02-17National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

The play was extremely disappointing. Most acts involved no set at all, with the main set comprising a small ~4x8 structure. More effort is put into most high school productions. The costumes could be best described as psychedelic. The spider was essentially a bunch of ~10' tall multi-colored sticks with people in black outfits carrying them around. The horse (semi-main character) had the primary actor fully visible outside the costume (again in a black outfit), which was distracting watching the actor speak instead of the horse. The acting itself was very good. Expect much more for the price paid and from the NAC.

    Pretty good

by M. B. on 2020-02-14National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Loved so much about the show but definitely a little disappointed in Falkor. Seemed like they just phoned it in on that one. Otherwise it was great and we enjoyed it!

    Great lighting environment

by SC on 2020-02-12National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I went to see The Never Ending Story without knowing the story so I had no preconceived ideas about it. I was very impressed with the use of lights and lighting in the show, however the puppets, at times, distracted from the show. I did not realize that the sticks were supposed to be a spider and the dragon puppet was underwhelming. Overall I did enjoy the performances and was happy to attend the play with my granddaughter.

    Perfect night out!

by Cwangell on 2020-02-10National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I took my 7 year old daughter to see her first play, and it could not have gone any better! the only "complaint" is that the people working the concessions at the intermission weren't moving at a pace that would be indicative of a short intermission with a theatre full of hungry/thirsty people, that being said we were still able to get our drinks and back up to our seats just as they were closing the doors. Parking was easy, even with my full size pick up. the usher working our section was extremely helpful. As the play ended my daughter turned to me and said "that blew my mind, can we come back and see something else?" so I would call that a success.

    Fabulous evening of theatre

by J. V. on 2019-10-28National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

From the first moment, the production brimmed with life and energy. Ben Caplan is amazing - his voice of power and range, his physical acting, his endurance in a demanding role. The other actors were also strong and convincing - Chaya with an amazingly expressive face. I loved the music and the display of versatility on the part of all the performers. And in addition to all this, it is a deeply moving play. Well done!

    Excellent play!!

by Ottawa west on 2019-10-26National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Loved Ben Caplan’s energy and the rest of the cast. Music was terrific. Audience was very engaged. The story though was from a hundred years ago, immigrants today could easily relate to the experiences. Persecution and racism is just as prevalent In many situations worldwide today.

    Interesting show

by j. on 2019-10-22National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Unique way of telling a powerful story.. from a storage container...a very good singer narrating ... With a bit too much profanity for my liking, but with some very good musicians/ actors. Overall well done to bring this story of hardship, sorrow and hope to the Ottawa stage.

    Excellent Show!

by Anita on 2019-09-23National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

We thoroughly enjoyed this performance! Would definitely recommend it to others and attend again. Great use of comedy and storytelling along with a wonderful selection of classical and modern pieces to enjoy! I would hope that this performance could be brought to Toronto where other piano students can easily attend this performance.

    Powerful

by I on 2019-09-22National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

This was an incredibly powerful show. Nothing but praise for the show itself. One star off just logistically, as it would be good to know the length of time in advance with or without intermission, maybe have it printed on the tickets. As for Indigenous art festival - it is an incredible, refreshing and much overdue addition to the NAC’s roster. I look forward to seeing more performances this week and look forward to it for years to come.

Sir John A was a wonderful surprise!

by Happyfeet2 on 2017-10-17National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

As a retired teacher, I feel it is a shame that most high school students (and adults) missed this opportunity to learn about history, politics, and social issues in an extremely creative and enjoyable way. A talented cast performed a very clever script that enlightened and entertained.

A fantastic play performed by a fantastic cast made for a fantastic evening. Very funny but also incredibly thought provoking. If you get the chance go and see this finely crafted work.

    Funny, educational and thought-provoking!

by GlengarryBarbara on 2017-10-15National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I was totally absorbed by this play and definitely recommend it to all Canadians! It gives one a very different perspective on Sir JAM (as he is referred to in the play notes) and his relationship with the aboriginal peoples of Canada, as well as his ideas on why and how he made sure Canada was not absorbed by the USA. All in all, a most enjoyable evening!
