    An enjoyable experience overall

by Anonymous on 2011-12-15National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I enjoyed this production of Oliver. Most of the cast was very good. The actors who played Fagin, Nancy and the artful dodger were particulary good in their roles.

    Oliver

by Shelagh on 2011-12-12National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

The first half was amazing. Wonderful songs and acting by most of the cast.. The second half wasn't good at all - we couldn't even understand why Oliver was suddenly in a bed. And there were no very familiar songs. Re Oliver - his singing wasn't good and I didn't find him even a very good actor. He looked submissive the entire time, though I imagine he was trying to be a child. Also, I don't think having a coloured actor playing the main part worked at all. It just seemed very strange. The Artful Dodger and Fagin were fabulous.

Oliver was better than I imagined!

by Nataly on 2011-12-10National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I was amazed by Oliver and appreciate the hard work and creativity that went in to making it possible. I wasn't sure what to expect to happen in a small room with little stage and props but I was blown away by the performance by all the actors and the way that the story was put together. I literally felt that I was there with them and actually enjoyed being in the smaller room because it made it seem so close and real.

This performance was complex & poignant, remarkable how each scene flowed through the issues.

It was a sheer pleasure to our artistic senses. Script, act and performance. The two were outstandingly amazing.

    Salt Water Moon

by lizzy001 on 2011-11-04National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

The play was v-e-r-y slow for the first half. There is a lot of information to take in and it became more of a history lesson than an entertainment. Actors stand - you talk - then I'll talk - you talk - then I'll talk>>>> with little or no action. The second half was much more animated due to "Jacob" enjoying himself much more. "Mary" was a bit too old for the part. We were willing to suspend some disbelief but she did not "act" her age. In general most of the problems were directorial but there was a definite lack of chemistry between the actors. I just did not believe there was - now or before - a love that did not die. Disappointing from a professional company.

    Salt Water Moon

by Nelliean on 2011-10-31National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Excellent Production. Great Chemistry between the 2 characters. They really mastered the art of filling the stage and capturing the history of the relationships between all of the characters that they referred to.

    salt moon

by sousou on 2011-10-31National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I found it too short for the amount I paid, didn't like that there was only two actors. Although they acted well, I found it boring.

    Salt-water moon was an education

by HalfNewfie on 2011-10-31National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I learned more about the trials and tribulations my grandparents and their forefathers went through. Had no idea what it was like to be collared. Also found out that the "old money" in Newfoundland was made on the backs of the average joe. The play made me laugh and cry... mostly laugh though... Mercer was hilarious. Unfortunately his girlfriend couldn't mimick the Newfie accent very well. Apparently the actress never visited Newfoundland. It showed!

    Excellent actors

by Sparklepod on 2011-10-26National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

First of all, I have seen many plays directed by Micheline Chevrier and each one is better than the last. In this case the actors were guided into a perfect blend of comedic timing and sweet sentimentality. The accents were perfect and the story unfolded with ease. I also enjoyed the nuggets of Canadian history which were approached in a human way. Well done to all involved.
