I feel like the TD Place has done an amazing job hosting the VNL games here in Ottawa. I enjoyed watching the matches on my weekend and cordially thank everyone who contributed to this wonderful experience. I also genuinely hope that TD Place maintains its streak in hosting VNL matches for 2025 as well to allow us to cheer for our awesome Team Canada!
Third year to attend this an event. Truly a lot of fun for the whole family. Fast paced event , which encourages audience participation. Extremely talented athletes from around the world. I think if you go once you’ll be hooked.
This is my second year assisting to the VNL here in Ottawa, great volleybal matches, even if you’re not totally in sports is somethkng to watch!
This was a great event. My kids and I really enjoyed this high level volleyball and the fun ambiance! However, I found really unfortunate that the booing was tolerated, especially after we were explained the new "green card"rule that promoted good sportsmanship. Booing the other team that served was a poor choice from the crowd, in my opinion. I'm not sure if the event officials or the referee could have done anything about it, however...
Be careful when you are sitting really high in the stands. There are strobe lights that will shine right into your eye. I had to move up to the very top (I was 2 rows lower) so that it didn't constantly blind me in between points. Otherwise, the experience and atmosphere was great. Games were great!
This was the first time we attended a volleyball competition and we really enjoyed the event especially given that Canada won! We also thought the female moderator who ramped up the excitement in the crowd was absolutely amazing! Needs improvement: 1.we were shocked to see two young girls with black hair racing on to the court to wipe down the floors after a point was made. This was awful, in such poor taste, and completely unethical! If men are playing volleyball, then men should be cleaning up after them(selves). 2. The spotlights were flashing directly into the eyes of people. I suspect anyone with epilepsy would not be able to attend the event as the lights would trigger a seizure. For everyone else it was blinding. Fixing those two things would have made the experience 10/10
Event was very well organized and fun. Loved the energy and setup
Thoroughly enjoyed the venue, set-up and actual matches. The music during the breaks and between the sets was also enjoyable, but not the incessant rambling of the girl on the mic constantly blabbing about something and trying to turn the event into a party. Its professional volleyball, be quiet for 5 minutes and let us enjoy ourselves.
As a VNL follower, I’m pleased with the continued improvements to Ottawa hosting VNL each year. It’s well attended and the atmosphere is great. Some of my issues include: - Parking is terrible. Whether you pre-purchase event parking or try to pay for each day when you arrive, it’s a terrible experience getting to the venue (which is not convenient since traffic is backed up Bank Street all the way to Catherine Street), navigating into and out of Lansdowne is extremely difficult due to volume of vehicles, and public transportation options don’t make it any more convenient or efficient. - The announcer mostly does a good job, but has limited knowledge of the game. It’s not her first year hosting the VNL. She should have more familiarity with the sport by now. She does a great job pumping up the crowd. It’s a bit embarrassing when she comments on the challenges incorrectly or the fault committed. - Not rewarding super spikes, monster blocks, ace serves, and mega rallies appropriately. The athletes are playing very hard- national level play is very difficult. Just because an opposing team is playing the host nation, doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be rewarded for really good offensive or defensive plays. The host nation already has the majority of fan support. If fans are travelling to our city to purchase tickets and support the players, they should be rewarded with respect from the hosts to recognize fantastic plays. Overall still a great experience, but still room for improvement. If you’re looking to watch world-class volleyball, I highly recommend you attend VNL in person.
