NEW ORDER IN CONCERT:

As one of the most influential new wave bands of the '80s, New Order  brought electronic dance music to the forefront of mainstream consciousness, setting the tone for generations of music to come. EDM progenitors like "Blue Monday" and "Bizarre Love Triangle" sound as fresh today as they did 30 years ago, making the band a continued presence atop festival bills around the globe. Bernard Sumner and co. sounded as sharp as ever on tour in 2013, treating fans to an emotional Joy Division tribute during their encores and setting expectations sky high for their 2014 appearances.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Formed in the wake of legendary post-punk band Joy Division, New Order pressed on after  late-frontman Ian Curtis' suicide with a decidedly more optimistic sound than the group's Curtis-fronted incarnation. With former guitarist/keyboardist Bernard Sumner assuming vocal duties under the new moniker, New Order made their album debut in 1981 with Movement, breaking from the gravity of their previous work with buoyant tracks like "Dreams Never End." 1983 follow-up Power, Corruption & Lies really broke the mold, exploring a fusion of rock and early techno that brought them international fame and influenced much of the decade's ensuing music. Over nine studio albums, New Order have built one of the most beloved legacies in popular music, continuing to thrill awestruck fans both in the studio and on the road.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Bernard and company came with a lot of energy. Played lots of New Order faves and dug deep for some Joy Division chestnuts."

"Perfect show. They played all the hits and closed with a flawless three song Joy Division encore. They sounded great"

"New Order still has it!!! Saw them back in the 80's & this show was just as awesome!"

    AMAZING

by sued2009 on 2012-10-25Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

The show was Amazing. Not a dull moment in the entire event. The band was great as always. Nice to hear Joy Division music played live as well and loved the tribute to Ian Curtis. Great to see a band who doesn't forget their beginnings and former band members. The second star of the show the the awesome light show. I can't remember if I have ever seen a light show that great. The lighting people were actually mentioned on stage by the band. It's too bad Peter Hook who no longer is in the band wasn't there and in my opinion is being a big baby about not rejoining them. I am sure New Order will successfully continue on without him but it would be nice to see them all together again soon. For me the most touching moment of the night(besides the tribute to Ian Curtis) was the entire band embracing each other at the end of the show as this was the last stop of their tour and maybe their last performance live together. Hopefully it won't be.

New Order was bringing down the house

by commaqueen on 2012-10-25Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

Great concert. Seeing New Order live was on bucket list and I was finally able to cross that one off. Great, loud music. The only negative for me was the overuse of the strobe lights. They were so bright I had to look away many times. Otherwise, we really enjoyed seeing New Order and living a little bit music from our past.

    New Order was spectacular!

by booyamilli on 2012-10-25Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

First concert I've ever been to where I didn't mind standing from the moment the band walked out on the stage to the finale! Great light show too. They still have it! Only one area for improvement in the sound department: the vocals needed to be set higher as the music drowned them out at times. It was also hard to hear their articulations when they spoke to the audience. Caught every second word. I wanted to hear clearer vocals because the lyrics to all their songs are exceptional. But we danced and loved the show. Sweet!

    Didn't miss Hookie!!!

by concertfan1 on 2012-10-25Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

What a fantastic show, I've seen New Order everytime they've come to Toronto since the early eighties and honestly this was my favorite. Great sound (although Sumner had real difficulty with the vocal range on 'Regret'), and great versions of their back catalogue. . When I was a teenager Peter Hook's angry foul mouthed behaviour seemed cool, but I grew tired of this angry miserable persona a long time ago. Hook, Yes you have a lot of talent, but I wouldn't want to be stuck on tour bus with you for more than a day, (Hook is touring doing Joy Division albums and it is terrible!!!!).
