NEW ORDER IN CONCERT:

As one of the most influential new wave bands of the '80s, New Order  brought electronic dance music to the forefront of mainstream consciousness, setting the tone for generations of music to come. EDM progenitors like "Blue Monday" and "Bizarre Love Triangle" sound as fresh today as they did 30 years ago, making the band a continued presence atop festival bills around the globe. Bernard Sumner and co. sounded as sharp as ever on tour in 2013, treating fans to an emotional Joy Division tribute during their encores and setting expectations sky high for their 2014 appearances.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Formed in the wake of legendary post-punk band Joy Division, New Order pressed on after  late-frontman Ian Curtis' suicide with a decidedly more optimistic sound than the group's Curtis-fronted incarnation. With former guitarist/keyboardist Bernard Sumner assuming vocal duties under the new moniker, New Order made their album debut in 1981 with Movement, breaking from the gravity of their previous work with buoyant tracks like "Dreams Never End." 1983 follow-up Power, Corruption & Lies really broke the mold, exploring a fusion of rock and early techno that brought them international fame and influenced much of the decade's ensuing music. Over nine studio albums, New Order have built one of the most beloved legacies in popular music, continuing to thrill awestruck fans both in the studio and on the road.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Bernard and company came with a lot of energy. Played lots of New Order faves and dug deep for some Joy Division chestnuts."

"Perfect show. They played all the hits and closed with a flawless three song Joy Division encore. They sounded great"

"New Order still has it!!! Saw them back in the 80's & this show was just as awesome!"

    Simply Amazing

by Gothguy on 2012-10-29Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

This is one of those bands that I missed seeing in the 80's and never thought I would get the chance to see Live. This was a great show - the opening act was horrible and I was very surprised that they had been picked to open as they were nothing like New Order at all and I was hoping that they would have picked a lesser known 80s band or at least something similar to New Order. There was a lot of energy and the band really outdid themselves and were very personable and friendly to the crowd. It was the final show of their tour and it was touching to see them all hug each other at the end of the encore. Highly Recommended!!!!

Peter Hook's absence was not a factor. This version of the group was great and put on an excellent show. The only minor quibble would be that some of the video background seemed like "a guide to New Order" in case anyone didn't know the names of all the songs or that the band's precursor band was Joy Division. No big deal though. Thoroughly enjoyed this evening.

I can now die happy having heard "Love Will Tear Us Apart" live. Feel honoured to have attended this show. I left feeling in a trance. It was like a teenage dream come true!

    New Order was amazing

by huskybear38 on 2012-10-26Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

New Order steals the show sharing hit after hit. The lights were so amazing with a video screen in the background. The crowd went wild and were standing for the entire show. They played for 2 hours straight.

    New Order

by Lainey74 on 2012-10-26Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

I honestly thought it was fantastic! I was a bit dubious when I first bought the tickets as I had seen a televised concert once before and wasn't impressed to say the least. It was great to see that they apparently still enjoyed themselves after all these years. Definitely recommended

Greatest hits played well and updated for 2012. Nostalgic for the 80's.

    Great night with New Order

by SGMC on 2012-10-26Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

As a long time New Order fan I was thrilled to hear they were coming to Toronto. Seeing New Order in Concert was on my bucket list as I have contemplated travelling to go see them in the past. With such high expectation I was not disappointed. In fact, it was one of my favourite concerts to date. The set list was excellent and my wife an I were pleasantly surprised with a couple of jems (Love Vigilantes and Atmosphere). I thought the video tribute to Ian Curtis was a very nice touch. Great job to the band and thank you for coming to Toronto. I hope we have an opportunity to see them again.

    Even better without Peter Hook

by pvwradtke on 2012-10-26Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

I was afraid that the performance would be somewhat lessened without Peter Hook, New Order's original bass player. However, I was in for a surprise, they look and play more lively than when Peter Hook was the band's front man. Bernard Sumner may not feel so comfortable to fill this role, but he can crack some jokes and he lets the band's music talk in his place. Overall, I was amazed with their performance and I'd most definitely see them again if they tour in Canada in the near future.

New Order still have it after all these years.

by Pierrejaubry on 2012-10-26Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

The concert was awesome. It brought back some great flashbacks and memories of my high school years. And, their YouTube concert clips doesn't do the band justice!! I was incredible. Don't wait another 12 years to come to Toronto!! Hahaha...

    New Order Rocks

by elambi on 2012-10-26Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

The opening act was a little weak, but as soon as New Order hit the stage there was no looking back. The rest of the night was a real party with lots of great New Order songs and a several poignant Joy Division tunes. So glad I went!

Awesome. Maybe a couple less songs from the 90s and and replace them with ones from the 80s would of made it a perfect night.

    New Order wild good

by pholyck on 2012-10-25Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

New Order blew my mind. Outstanding show. Played all the songs I wanted to hear, the Joy Division songs we a great surprise. Pretty sure it was a farewell tour but I hope not! The Sony Centre is a crappy venue, who wants to sit and listen, which some people did, would have been better at the Kool Haus. Other than that it was the best New Order concert I have ever seen and I have seen them every time they have come to Toronto since the first time at the International centre.

New Order were well worth the wait!!

by solosonic on 2012-10-25Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

It's been soooo long since they've been back to Toronto and they didn't disappoint!! In fact it was probably the best gig I've seen, they were polished and energetic. Bernard sang well and Tom Chapman did an impressive job in place of Hooky. Really great to see Stephen and Gillian. The video backdrop and lights etc were over the top, added a lot to the show. My only beef was assigned seating, I really wish it was an open floor venue, so I could've made my way up to the front to see them closer.

    Worth the wait!

by DARNOC on 2012-10-25Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

Apparently it has been almost 20 years since New Order last played in Toronto. This gig was worth the wait! Three Joy Division covers were included in this concert, along with all of the New Order singles anybody could have wanted to hear, and then some. For example, "Perfect Kiss" was, well, perfect. The crowd was on its feet from start to finish. If there was any flaw, it was the fact that the band had to cut one of their three scheduled Joy Division covers from their encore due to the city's curfew. (However, they managed to do all THREE the following night... go figure!).

    New Order still Gods

by LeGriz on 2012-10-25Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

After being away for so long, New Order did not disappoint Toronto. Playing a track off of almost every album, there was something for everyone. Highlights for me on Tuesday included Perfect Kiss, Temptation, Your Silent Face and even Joy Divison's Tranmission. Seeing Gillian on stage with the band again was a big bonus. Night #2, I was a guest and the set list changes slightly, but I finally got to hear Love Vigilantes played live on Wednesday. With your eyes closed the music was bang on (including all bass lines). With your eyes open, it was sad not to see Hooky on stage.

    New Order .. AWESOME!

by ChrispCrunch on 2012-10-25Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

I waited a long time to see New Order again, and they did not disappoint. This was a fantastic, well-rounded show. They played an excellent mix of tracks from all over their catalogue, (including JD tracks!), and didn't bash us over the head with the new stuff. They played pretty much all of my favs as well. I would have like to see them play the extendo-mix of Perfect Kiss, but I was happy they included it. I would have been reeally angry had they not, actually. The stage show and sound was ... . phenomenal, to say the least. I definitely see where my money went, and I felt valued as a fan. They went that extra mile to wow us. I miss Hookie though, I have to say. The current bass player was . acceptable/proficient, and he carried his parts really, really well, but ... he's not Hook. Being talented and proficient certainly doesn't mean you can play like Peter hook. Luckily for me .. I saw him at the phoenix Concert Theatre several months ago and it was INCREDIBLE, so I'm satiated. Seriously, if you are wondering whether you want to go, or if it's worth the cash, and you have the night free .... GO! It was beyond WELL worth it, and you'll be extremely happy you did. It's the chance of a lifetime!
