About

Nine Inch Nails are a progressive, Grammy-winning industrial rock band composed of Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. Formed in Cleveland, Ohio as a solo project for singer, songwriter and producer Trent Reznor in 1988, Nine Inch Nails have released 11 studio albums, six EPs and three remix albums, starting with 1989’s Pretty Hate Machine and breakout debut singles “Down In It” and “Head Like a Hole.” For 1992’s Broken EP, NIN reached No. 7 on the Billboard 200 while its standout record “Wish” won the Grammy for Best Metal Performance. In the midst of hitting No. 2 and No. 1 on the Billboard 200 for 1994’s The Downward Spiral and 1999’s The Fragile, respectively, NIN released Hot 100-charting singles “Closer” and “The Perfect Drug” and earned a second Best Metal Performance Grammy at the 1996 ceremony for “Happiness in Slavery.” Nine Inch Nails went on hiatus until the 2005 chart-topper With Teeth, then hit the Hot 100 again with singles “The Hand That Feeds” and “Only,” and later with “Survivalism" from their 2007 follow-up Year Zero. Longtime collaborator and English producer Atticus Ross became an official member of NIN in 2016, established with a trilogy of releases culminating in 2018’s Bad Witch. As composers, the duo have earned two Academy Awards, two Grammys and one Emmy. In 2020, Nine Inch Nails were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. NIN also composed the score for the 2025 film Tron: Ares.

  • Trent Reznor will blow your mind.

Amazing is the best way to put it. Wave Goodbye! If you did not get a chance to see a show on this tour and have never seen NIN live, Then you better hope they tour again!

  • ninja amazing

I went to see nin. sssc was excellent and I would go see them again. nin was as I expected full of energy and stripped down perfect. Trent singing on his back when he tried to rip some carpet and fell back. what blew me away was jane's. a very visual and very energetic as well. the song jane said at the end was perfect. I hope to be able to see them again as well. all in all well worth the price of the ticket. molson amphi is a great venue. it seems to bring out the best in groups.

  • NIN rocks Jane's Addiction meh.

by Jwbes on 2009-07-13Molson Amphitheatre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

Street Sweeper Social Club got the energy pumping for Nine Inch Nails who played a non stop nineteen song set ranging from their debut album Pretty Hate Machine all the way to last year's free download The Slip. Their set was amazing closing off with the heart renching song Hurt. Jane's Adiction closed off the night but as someone who was there to see NIN they never really got it going for me. It was especially weird to have them close out the night because they played less songs then NIN. For the hardcore Jane's fans I'm sure it was great but they don't really do it for me. Bottom line, if you like to spend your evenings watching Tom Morello shredding on guitar with his tongue, see Trent Reznor flipping keyboards and watching Dave Navaro smoke darts while playing guitar then The NINJA Tour is definitly for you.

  • Maybe Jane was addicted but I certainly was not!

by Concertguy on 2009-07-13Molson Amphitheatre - TorontoRating: 2 out of 5

It was very unfortunate that Jane's addicition was headlining this event. NIN was great and I would of definetly enjoyed to hear some more of their stuff. Don't get me wrong, all the band members of Jane's addicition were absoluetly amazing EXCEPT for the singer Perry Farrell. He sounded like a little kid who could barely sing and definetly was the only contributing factor to making a night with these two great bands such a drag.

  • Jane Says... A Great Show

by Addicted on 2009-07-13Molson Amphitheatre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

In my opinion, it was the first truly exciting concert line-up of the year. Street Sweeper Social Club, Nine Inch Nails and Jane's Addiction. Memories of Lollapalooza came over me as I watched Perry and Dave hit the stage, for the first time in Toronto since 1991. Perry Farrell commented that the last time he was in Toronto, he had dreadlocks and some people in the crowd had dreadlocks. 'In fact' he said, as he locked into the sea of faces, 'some of you weren't even born yet'. I had to smile as Perry danced with wine bottle in hand to the guitar, bass and drums of 'Juanus Addiction'. It truly had been a long time, far too long. 18 years since Jane had visited T.O. The band had broken up a few times since then and nobody believed that they would tour again. Even Perry admitted that a recent mediation attempt by Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor to get the tour on track, was originally unsuccessful. Reznor, who also produced Jane's new songs, tried in vain to help the group work out its differences. In a recent interview Farrell talked about Reznor's infuence: "He did his best to be both producer and psychologist,". "He was very respectful, trying to get out of the way and not overproduce. I wish honestly he would've produced a little more, but he was a little gun shy after seeing us explode on each other in the studio. He became the referee for a day and after that day I think he was done." When Nine Inch Nails took the stage, I was amazed by Reznor's intensity. He is a more mature Trent now and listening to songs like Hurt, Head Like a Hole and Terrible Lie made me feel young again. Since their inception NIN has sold over 20 million albums worldwide and they are veterans of the concert stage, but they looked fresh and new at Molson Amphitheatre, pleasing thousands of screaming fans. The opening band featured Tom Morello, famed guitarist from Rage Against The Machine and Boots Riley, frontman from The Coup. Tom was superb, as usual, although I felt like I was watching a band at my sister's birthday party in grade 6. They seemed to enjoy themselves more that than the crowd did and Boots tried really hard to sound like Zach from rage. Overall, the concert was great and I left wanting more. As I climbed into my car on the way home, I pulled out an old live Jane's Addiction bootleg cd from 1991 and listened to it for the next six days. 4 stars out of 5

  • NIN Was Unbelievable

    by Springloaded666 on 2009-07-13Molson Amphitheatre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Great sound, not a bad seat in the place and cannot believe the NIN set list. NIN may be the best band I've ever seen live. Amazing concert from start to finish. Street Sweeper Social Club was surprisingly awesome and Janes Addiction rocked the stage too.

  • Once In A Lifetime

This concert took me back to my early years in highschool. NIN was amazing. Jane's Addiction was fantastic. Perry was in fine form. The crowd was positive and fun.

  • NIN? No. JA? Yes.

by FireMate on 2009-07-13Molson Amphitheatre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

I'm a die hard fan of Trent and NIN, have followed his work during the inception to what is now a very inspiring career in music. He's been revolutionary in how media gets produced and distributed in the modern world. That said, the concert was not great. He tried to be funny by knocking things down forcing people to have to pick them up (ie- mic stands, keyboards, etc) but instead came across as just mean and unprofessional. The song choices weren't great, and deviated from the classics to just incredibly long "jazz odyssey" territory. I was very disappointed. So much, that after the NIN side of the concert, my wife and I, both NIN garb, were ready to leave. Then Jane's Addiction came on, a group who honestly we don't know a lot about, and were utterly blown away! The music, the enthusiasm, the lead singer talking to the crowd, jumping up and down on speakers and across stage... honestly, between the lights, the great guitar work, awesome vocal work and a genuine feeling like the band was having an awesome time, they are the only reason I give this concert 5 stars. We talked about it for days later, not the NIN side of the concert, just the JA. If Jane's Addiction decides not to let 2 decades go by between shows again, I would totally go back and pay full pop for a ticket. Damn good show!

  • Amazing concert!

by Eloha on 2009-07-13Molson Amphitheatre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Nine Inch Nails are still one of the most relevant and truly inspiring artists on our troubled planet. To hear the crowd's singing and response to the classic "Hurt" is to realise that Trent Reznor has written songs that are now classics writ deep on the psyche of our generations bot more importantly: In their hearts! Eric avery has finally rejoined the troubled ranks of Jane's Addiction and it truly is the magic of these four eclectic personalities together making music that is just as vibrant and fiercely original as it was when they broke onto the scene over 20 years ago. Their music is to our generation what Led zeppelin's was to someone in the sixties and seventies. Strange song structures and dynamics that go from sweet summertime melodies to urgent screams of violence. Perry Farrell remains one of the most charismatic frontmen in rock, perhaps THE very best around these years. I felt lucky to be there for this concert and when it ended, we knew we ad been part of an unforgetable event that will live long with us in our memories of what it felt like to be alive in the summer of 2009....

  • NIN was 5/5 JA was 0/5 - hence the 2.5 stars!

by Oxide on 2009-07-13Molson Amphitheatre - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5

I love NIN so much! Awesome show. We will never forget it. Why Trent decided to team up with JA blows my mind. JA looked like a joke, danced like a joke and forced me to leave the concert. As for NIN - as always it was shorter than would have liked, and on too early.

  • Nails Rocked.

Went to see the Nails. Nothing against Janes but that's why I was there and they ruled. Thanks Trent. Navarro played like a god, the rest of the band bored me.

  • NIN = Amazing Janes Addiction = me leaving the sho

Nine Inch nails were awesome, only down side is when they left the stage! Janes addiction should stop doing shows.

  • Nin/Ja was kickass!

one of the best concerts I have been to at Molson Amp. Nine Inch Nails rocked hardcore while Janes Addiction blew you away after!

  • The Crowd Smoked Everything!

I thought that NIN was fantastic, and outplayed Jane's Addiction. Perry Farrell put on quite a perfomance, and was his usual flamboyant self.

  • NIN/JA, can't ask for a better live bands!

Amazing show! Street Sweeper Social Club opened the concert which was great. Then NIN came on and and sounded studio quality good. Later, Jane's Addiction ended the night with their legendary set!

  • Went to see NIN, left glad I seen SSSC

by Cypr3ss on 2009-07-13DTE Energy Music Theatre - ClarkstonRating: 4 out of 5

Opening for Nine Inch Nails was Street Sweeper Social Club. One word to describe them... WOW! Both Tom Morello and Boots Riley have and excellent stage presence and was very interactive with the audience. I won't go into their set in detail as this was primarily a NIN & Jane's show, with NIN being my main motivation to attend. Nine Inch Nails was up next and for some reason after seeing them several times, seeing them play in daylight was a very surreal yet un-welcomed experience. With this being their farewell tour the setlist was questionable at best with lots of great songs that were played on other dates omitted, some of these not being replaced at all. It's like they were in a giant rush to get on and off the stage as soon as possible. On the drive home I wondered to myself "perhaps someone from Detroit ran over his pet or maybe they dented his Porsche?". It seemed as if Trent really did not want to be there! This is not to say that NIN put on a terrible performance, they didn't. They just did not put on the performance that you would expect to experience from a musician of this caliber. It's too bad really as I'm sure others were left with a similar bad taste, this is not how I want myself or others remembering this excellent and iconic talent. They sounded good but the fact that it was so rushed and he just seemed to not be into it at all made this performance mediocre at best. From my understanding they will be headlining Virgin fest in Ontario this August. I will make it a point to be in attendance and hope that I again see the Nine Inch Nails that myself and many many other loyal fans have know and come to love. I do not want this performance to be the way I remember the band and recommend that others who may have attending this as their first NIN show get down to Toronto. This show was not the norm, nor was the setlist. This performances started out amazing with Trents intro, then fell flat and couldn't get back to the peak at which it started. Jane's Addiction was amazing live. It's hard to believe this band ever broke up / took a break. It was as if they never stopped playing together. This set was strong from beginning to end. Perry was more then entertaining as who floated around the stage as only he can. It is hard to believe that this man is as old as he is. You would never know it to see him in person. Perry was very personable and even mentioned Saint Andrews, a popular venue in the Detroit area for live music performances where lots of up an coming artist play. One word to describe Jane's Addictions performance... Impressed.

The entire night was a win, street sweeper social club was a very good opening act and Nine Inch Nails was very intense as always, and Janes Addiction was good as well. All in all it was very awesome.

  • Old and New

by SpeckTater on 2009-07-13Molson Amphitheatre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

Street Sweeper Social Club was surprisingly good. Their show was much better than the studio songs posted on the NIN|JA website. NIN did it again. Saw them live twice and own the live show DVDs. They cannot dissapoint. Even without the use of the projector screen that they use so well, it was a show to remember. I left after Three Days. I guess Perry Farrell made enough money that he can't be bothered to sing on key anymore. Great band still, and I am glad to have seen Navarro play. I guess bigger fans of the band might have appreciated, but I already had my money's worth, and beating the after show traffic jam was nice too.

  • Good show!

by Shmaff on 2009-07-13Molson Amphitheatre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

It was a great venue with a great crowd with outstanding weather. The sound quality was great while the bands were modest and in a seemingly good mood.
