OLIVIA NEWTON JOHN IN CONCERT:
Olivia Newton John is one of the top-selling recording artists of all time, but to many fans she'll forever be doe-eyed Sandy from the 1978 blockbuster film Grease. Newton John's Summer Nights residency at the Flamingo in Las Vegas takes its name from one of Grease's most popular musical numbers, and a medley of beloved songs from the film's soundtrack provides the centerpiece of the show. Newton John rounds out the experience with pitch-perfect performances of her early country material, songs from the Xanadu soundtrack, and pop hits like "Physical", making for an unforgettable night of career-spanning hits, something true fans won't want to miss.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Born in England and raised in Australia, Olivia Newton John got her start performing with a short-lived Melbourne girl group called Sol Four. She appeared on various Australian TV programs before traveling to Britain in 1966 to record her debut single "Till You Say You'll Be Mine". In 1971 she released her first solo album If Not For You, scoring her first No. 1 hit with the title track and landing another hit with follow-up single "Banks of the Ohio". In addition to landing seven consecutive No. 1's on the Adult Contemporary chart during the '70s, she experienced considerable success as a country artist with a popular cover of John Denver's classic hit "Take Me Home, Country Roads" and her Top 10 hit "Let Me Be There", which earned her a Grammy for Best Female Country Vocal Performance. The pinnacle of her fame came in 1978 with her starring role in the musical film Grease and its accompanying soundtrack, which spent 12 weeks at No. 1 and still appears on Billboard's Top Soundtracks chart today. The '80s saw Newton John shed her good-girl image in favor of the edgier look and sound as she unveiled on 1981's "Physical", an international smash and the decade's top-selling single in the US. In 2014 she debuted her Summer Nights residency show at the Flamingo in Las Vegas, earning praise from critics and fans alike for her elegant performances and perfectly preserved voice.

by Stc139 on 2012-09-24Casino Rama - RamaShe played for two full hours and her voice is nearly flawless. Some problems with her head voice, but considering her age. still really positive. She played all the songs that you'd want to hear. It was the ballads that she truly shined on.

There were many of her trade mark songs and a number of songs from the movies she starred in. For this I would say she put together a good concert. She was about 20 minutes late taking the stage. There is no opening act. I have been to many concerts at Rama. This is the very first time an artist was late taking the stage. This act of arrogance is unforgiveable! What could have been a great performance is changed to good as the first impression was lost in the late arrival. I only have one chance to make a good first impression and the artist must learn this as well. Her performance was not one to make up for the late arrival.

But that was not the case for Olivia Newton-John, Olivia sang the high notes with ease. The variety of songs spanned the era of her music and hits from the old hits to some of her new songs.

At 63, Olivia's energy was enviable...she put emotion into every song and seems to truly appreciate the people who are her fans. The songs she chose spanned her career and they brought back so many wonderful memories. Hearing her voice and seeing her in person was amazing! Olivia mentioned her personal battle with breast cancer 20 years ago and that she too has experienced many difficult experiences in her life despite her obvious success. My husband and I had a large closeup screen in front of us and we could see how the years have aged Ms. Newton John but we can honestly say that the years have been kind to her and her zest for life and giving back to others is just one of the reasons why her concerts still sell out!
