Bravo
by canfan on 2011-11-01Elgin Theatre - TorontoRather than the normal dreary take on Don Giovanni, Opera Atelier gives us Opera Buffa. This is a satirical romp through the lush music of Mozart with physical acting on a par with the rich voices. This is opera as it was intended to be, for the audience, not to soothe some inner angst of the director. This is opulent entertainment aimed at the audience not at the rarified altitude of the critics. This opera was written at a time when opera was not reserved for the rich and famous, but the parvenu of the common man. Bravo, Opera Atelier, Bravo.
