About

As the first group to land an extreme metal album at No. 1 on the BIllboard 200, Pantera became overnight torchbearers of the genre, paving the way for a long and successful reign that shows no signs of slowing . In 2013, Pantera frontman, Phil Anselmo, and bassist, Rex Brown, reunited and joined Anthrax on stage at the Revolver Golden God Awards show. Performing "This Love" from their 1992 album "Vulgar Display of Power," Anselmo's voice reminded fans of the unbridled brutality the band was capable of in its heyday. The energy Pantera crammed into their live act cannot be measured by any earthly means. The shredding licks of Dimebag Darrel, backed by Vinnie Paul's solid, world-shattering drums rounded out a power-packed concert that was everything American metal should be. The band treated ticket holders to speed metal of a truly high caliber, as entire arenas seemed to erupt in torrents of high-speed thrashing to a Texas-bred cacophony that was anything but ordinary.

When Anselmo joined the band in 1987, and the band released their breakthrough album 1990's "Cowboys From Hell," little remained of their glam and hair metal origins, and replacing those was an entirely fresh, raw presence that had no equal. After releasing "Vulgar Display of Power" in 1992, Pantera toured with tremendous success. The shocking assassination of Dimebag Darrell in 2004 sadly put an end to any hopes of a reunion, but the memory lives on in singles like "Mouth for War" and "Walk," both from "Vulgar Display of Power." Vulgar's follow-up, "Far Beyond Driven," topped its predecessor with even more raw thunder. Pantera will be remembered as a band that ushered in the new thrash, for nothing was ever the same after they arrived. As they may very well be the fathers of modern metal, they were truly greater than the sum of their parts.

    Great show but not Pantera

    by DD65 on 2023-08-15

Child Bite opened. Peculiar and surprisingly good. Lamb of God killed, as always. I wish they had headlined. Randy Blythe summed up the headliner several times: "are you guys ready to hear some Pantera songs?!"He made it clear that, in his mind, the headline band was not Pantera. As a longtime Pantera fan, I agree. Phil seemed very limited in his mobility (I hear he has some back issues) but the vox were decent. Rex was Rex. What would I change? I would not call it 'Pantera'; it isn't. I would not have hired Zakk for this. His own identity, aura and style are too big to properly tribute another great player, and (I think) this was supposed to be a tribute. The event and venue itself were fantastic. Easy in, easy out; plenty of food & beverage; good access to merch. Very smooth.

    Most excellent show!

This show was a once in a lifetime experience. I saw the original lineup in the 90’s, but this was an amazing tribute to the Abbott brothers.

    Good but over sold

    by Grantis on 2023-08-15

I loved the show. Everything was great with the bands, but that show was over sold and there was no space to stand, people on the guardrails, behind the seats of the last row and in the isles. I love this venue but that was just ridiculous. I get you wanna make money and sell out shows, but that was too much

    Unclean

    by Shua on 2023-08-15

I’ve been going to concerts for almost 30 years, the Budweiser venue was the least clean I’ve ever seen a venue. And the lack of security was weird, and the security they did have didn’t seem to care about anything. The concert itself was great, but the venue was lacking

Great concert with a couple of concerns

    by Jekk on 2023-08-15

The venue is always a challenge. The washroom situation Needs a lot to be desired. Let’s talk about the band. Great band love every single one of them. Everyone is playing in beast mode level. But I have to call out Phil unfortunately as he has and still struggle with some of the songs that need a more musical approach. Such is what happens when you are at that age. Overall it was still great concert, great songs great crowd!

Pantera was awesome but BUDWEISER STAGE staff SUCK!!!!

    by RA1111 on 2023-08-15

Pantera was amazing! Sound was incredible However, staff at the Venue are completely retarded! P.S your staff should cut people off who’ve had too much to drink rather than continue accepting money for over priced beer and then kick the person out who paid a lot of money to be there. It’s an alcoholic venue…. And Pantera was playing… obviously people are going to have a good time!
