About

A beloved folk rock singer-songwriter who was inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001, Paul Simon has become one of the most respected songwriters in rock music. He grew up in Queens, New York and developed an interest in baseball and music at an early age. Along with childhood friend Art Garfunkel, they formed Simon & Garfunkel in 1964 and scored a deal with Columbia Records, releasing their debut Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M. They later won ten Grammy Awards and put out four more studio albums including 1966’s Sounds of Silence and 1970’s Bridge Over Troubled Water before parting ways that year. Simon’s self-titled solo album came out in 1972, instilling Latin and reggae flavors into his soft rock in its singles "Mother and Child Reunion" and "Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard". 1973’s pop-folk album There Goes Rhymin’ Simon incorporated gospel and R&B and its follow-up, 1975’s Still Crazy After All These Years, reached number one on the Billboard charts and had four Top 40 hits including "50 Ways To Leave Your Lover" and "My Little Town" with vocals from Garfunkel. In 1986, Simon released his seventh studio album Graceland, expanding his musical palette by infusing African textures and collaborating with South African musicians including Ladysmith Black Mambazo, which went on to sell over 5 million copies in the U.S. and won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year. His Brazilian music-tinged The Rhythm of the Saints was released in 1990, achieving commercial and critical success, as well as introducing world music to a broader audience. His latest album, the acclaimed 2011’s So Beautiful or So What was touted as one of the year’s best. He has toured successfully through the years, as a solo artist as well as jaunts with both Bob Dylan and Sting, selling out concerts to ticket holders across the globe.

    Paul Simon exceeded all expectations!

by Leasidegal on 2018-06-17Air Canada Centre - Toronto

This was one of the best concerts I've ever been to and I've been to many. The sound was terrific, Paul's voice sounded great and you could hear every word of his wonderful lyrics. His musicians were incredibly talented and versatile with most playing multiple instruments. What a unique sound for every song. There were wonderful new arrangements of familiar songs but I also enjoyed the songs that were not so familiar (to me). I loved the fact that the big screen was right behind the band so that you could look at both at the same time without finding yourself watching the screens on the scoreboard and not the stage. The screen was clear and it was wonderful to see the musicians playing some very unusual instruments.

Paul Simon's still got it, at 76 years of age

by Anonymous on 2018-06-17Air Canada Centre - Toronto

Three encores, fantastic musicians, great stories & anecdotes. And he's still got his voice. I was moved to tears throughout the concert from nostalgia plus the tremendous love from the full-house fans.

    Paul Simon, master musician

by BUGCHICK on 2018-06-15Air Canada Centre - Toronto

His farewell tour features an amazing group of musicians, young and old, covering strings, brass, percussion and woodwinds! His rapport with the audience was awesome and his obvious admiration for his band made it a magical evening. He performed for 2 1/2 hours and it was fitting that he played solo for the last 2 songs.

Paul Simon’s Concert was a bucket list gem!

by Lol59 on 2018-06-15Air Canada Centre - Toronto

The concert was Excellent! Paul’s voice is so pure and clear, it’s amazing how he has looked after his instrument over the years. He was funny and a delightful storyteller. The accompanying artists were amazing too, and I loved the Seinfeldian way that Paul showcased them. It surprised me that such a large percentage of concert goers appeared to be under 35. I had a 9-10 year old boy on one side of me who sang every song, and an 80+ woman on the other who was dancing up a storm. Now that’s a concert!

Paul Simon was excellent. His voice is as strong now as it was 40+ years ago. The band was great - so versatile too. The whole show was great. Paul played a wide range of songs spanning his whole career. I am so glad I went to see him. I can't believe he is retiring because he was really enjoying himself up there on stage. Great Great Show

    Paul Simon - Homeward Bound!

by RockerandRoller on 2018-06-15Air Canada Centre - Toronto

Although this was Paul Simon's farewell tour he mesmerized the audience for 2 1/2 hours while people sang, danced and reminisced. The stories were fun and getting a glimpse into how some of his songs came to be made them that much more enjoyable. Paul sang songs throughout his career from Simon and Garfunkle to his latest solo works. His rendition of Bridge over Troubled Water was beautiful and gave me goosebumps. Paul got many well earned standing O's throughout the night. I am much better for having experienced Paul Simon live!!

Paul Simon was amazing, he truly is one of kind artist. I felt honored to witness such raw talent. Only negative feedback is that I wish I knew what what time he was going to start, we got there at 8:30 and missed half of the 1st song, it is our fault but sometimes shows take so long to start that you never know what time you should show up at.

Rhymin' Simon's night of Amazin' Playin'

by FabFan on 2018-06-15Air Canada Centre - Toronto

This was an awesome show for the ages. Paul sounded amazing, musicians were fabulous and played so many genres and put new twists on old classics, keeping it all cooking and fresh. What a delight. I hope Paul extends the tour and makes some extra pit stops up the road so we can catch this one again. I would've liked to have heard Crazy Love, and of course more of the Simon and Garfunkel stuff (like I am a Rock) but can't complain. The guy could easily fill another 2 hours of classics and no filler.

    Incredible Concert.

by Fran84 on 2018-06-15Air Canada Centre - Toronto

This was my first, and I presume last, Paul Simon concert. And boy, was it worth it. The ACC was packed with adorning fans, the set-list was amazing, not to mention the musical arrangements, which were outstanding. There was a 15-piece band, including a string and horn section! There was a beautiful orchestral sequence for a few songs, and of course, some Paul Simon solo-with-his-guitar moments. There were 2 encores for a total of 35 songs. I am so happy. What a once in a lifetime experience. Thank you Paul and band!

Paul Simon - a Legend well worth seeing!

by HammerCity on 2018-06-15Air Canada Centre - Toronto

We loved this concert from beginning to end! Paul was in fine form and his large group of musicians were outstanding. I loved the versatility and the easy transitions between classical orchestral music, and fun get-on-your-feet accordion and drum music. There were some newer unfamiliar songs but they were all played well and he did include so many hits from his days with Simon and Garfunkel and his solo career. The multiple encores ended the evening on such a high note.
