by Breezybeez on 2023-12-26Rating: 2 out of 5Definitely a show for younger potter fans. We went to see this in Toronto and honestly just didn't find it funny or that entertaining.

Talk about magic!
British comedy actors Daniel Clarkson and Jefferson Turner have distilled all 4,200 pages of J. K. Rowling's seven Harry Potter novels into one brilliantly hilarious 70-minute show. Potted Potter: The Unauthorized Harry Experience is a lovably loopy two-person performance in which a Potter know-it-all teams up with a rebellious Harry newbie to create a show about -- you guessed it -- Harry Potter.
Clarkson and Turner conceived the show in 2005 as a five-minute sidewalk synopsis to amuse customers queued up for Rowling's sixth Harry novel. They expanded it to an hour the following year and opened at Edinburgh's Zoo Southside. European tours ensued, and in 2012 Potted Potter was nominated for two Olivier Awards, the highest honor in British theater. The show made its off-Broadway debut the same year and has since toured all over the United States and the world. After opening in 2018, the family-friendly Las Vegas production won Best of Last Vegas Awards for Best New Production and Best Value Show.
One actor channels a bookish Harry in Potted Potter while another plays every other character -- including Ron and Hermione, Draco Malfoy, Snape, the Weasleys, Sirius Black, Mad-Eye Moody, Dumbledore and, of course, He Who Must Not Be Named -- with wild abandon. Loads of wigs and other goofy props are employed in a nonstop laugh fest that also features a fire-breathing dragon, countless costume changes, brilliant songs, a plethora of props and even a Quidditch match encouraging audience participation (but no brooms, alas).
Accessible to Potter freaks and newbies alike, Potted Potter blends slapstick in the Laurel & Hardy vaudeville tradition with the wildly witty dialogue associated with Monty Python's Flying Circus. "Potting" is a British term for "the art of summarizing something into a digestible form," and, like all the best parodies, Clarkson and Turner's Harry experience is both splendid spoof and heartfelt homage.
Definitely a show for younger potter fans. We went to see this in Toronto and honestly just didn't find it funny or that entertaining.
I saw the original performance and was expecting the same smart and hilarious performance but this was a terrible disappointment. The performance was unpolished, the actors spoke over each other and clearly hadn’t rehearsed enough. What a waste of money.
We had issues understanding one of Actors. We are very accustomed to British accents, but had trouble understanding Actor more than a few times. Loved the interaction with the Audience, especially the Children.
We laughed so much at this show that our faces hurt. This show was so great, will go again if they come back!
I laughed so hard my sides hurt when it was over. I would go see it again in a heartbeat. The guys were hilarious and interactive. It’s a must see for any Harry Potter fan!!!
So well done. Hilarious. If you are a Harry Potter fan then I can’t recommend enough!
Very funny. Children & adults all liked it and were laughing throughout. Definitely recommend it.
I saw this, I didn't think it was funny at all. Fell asleep a few times.
I have never laughed so much and so hard as I did at Potted Potter, what an awesome show! I took my mom with me and she enjoyed the production, by the way, mom has never read any of the Harry Potter books. I would recommend Potted Potter to anyone and everyone who enjoys a bit of comedy in their life.
I was a bit nervous reading the reviews for this show after buying tickets. It was very enjoyable - goofy but entertaining. The remade songs and dancing were definitely the best part. You didn't need to know HP perfectly to follow along. I am glad we didn't buy the expensive tickets because I don't necessarily think the show was worth it, it seemed pretty low budget - had I realized they would be selling discounted tickets I would have liked those. Anyway it was a good time for all ages!
Potted Potter was very funny. The two actors seemed to have such a great time entertaining the audience. Simple sets and lots of adlibbing added to the fun. Great show for all Harry Potter fans. I think that the expensive tickets prevented the theatre from being full!
This play was so hilarious, my whole family loved it. It was unique, original, and very engaging. Not just a play for kids, any Harry Potter fan would enjoy it! The acting was fantastic!
Awesome show - very funny and well done. Would see it again.
My son and I are huge Harry Potter fans and we are hard to please so we had our doubts that this show was going to be good. But I will tell you that it was really good, we enjoyed ourselves and laughed alot. The actors really connected to the audience resulting in the room being a buzz with interaction. Calgary audiences are usually very reserved so for us to be interactive was a feat for these two actors, Quidditch helped. It was fun, I recommend it, great job!
Absolutely hilarious show. The two actors grabbed everyone's attention right off the bat, and kept the audience laughing the whole time. I would definitely go see this show again!
We haven't laughed so much in years Funny beyond compare Captured the Harry Potter highlights in a fabulous Funny way. Just loved it
This show made me laugh so hard my stomach hurt and my eyes leaked!!
I didn't laugh like this in quite a while. Great show, felt like improv and it was very funny even for non potter heads. Great for the whole family.
This show was not what I expected... it was better! Will totally see it again. I haven't laughed so much especially for 2 guys doing everything! So much great talent.
Fantastic show! My whole family, including my six-year-old who hasn't read the books yet, were rolling in the aisles! They also don't give away any secrets, which keeps the magic and mystery alive for the Harry Potter newbies. So glad we went!
