    Ray LaMontagne was incredible!

by lesfilling on 2011-09-04Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

What a great concert! Ray was in great voice - and let's face it, it's all about that fabulous voice! Heartbreakingly beautifu. Fantastic band, too! Pedal steel for days! Wow. And the sound was impeccable, adding to the overall greatness of the performance. The opening act, Busi from South Africa, was a fabulous surprise! He was also mind blowingly good. His voice and the way he used it like an instrument was just unreal! And the poignancy of the lyrics about the struggles in his country (when he wasn't singing in Zulu) made me feel very thankful to live here.

Ray Lamontagne has the most amazing voice

by sashworth on 2011-09-04Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

I was blown away by the performance on Friday of Ray Lamontagne and the Pariah Dogs. The sound was perfect and the music was wonderful. Ray himself seems to be a man of very few words, but his voice gives me chills, and the music itself is wonderful. The band are excellent musicians. I'd recommend this gig to anyone. The performance was supposed to begin at 8pm, but had started already when we arrived at 7:40, so I don't know who the supporting singer was, but he was really worth listening to,

Ray LaMontagne and the Pariah Dogs was a very good show- they played most of their newest album along with some older songs, which was great given that the majority of the crowd had likely heard of them from their newest album. They were very cool and calm and were what I expected for this concert. I would see them again some time, but at another venue. We did go look to buy merchandise after the show (we snuck out and missed the encore specifically to do this) but couldn't find anything. That was a bit disappointing, but not their fault (unless they never set any up for sale, in which case, what a shame! There was a shirt they have on their website that I wanted to buy at the show).

I would highly recommend seeing Ray LaMontagne sing. he has an amazing range, beautiful songwriter with a breathy soulful voice and a gracious, shy spirit. His band was fantastic backing him up. he is one the the best songwriters of our day. I wish I could see him play again soon!

As always, superb live show! Massey is such a great venue. Was disappointed in the encore though. He needs to open up to the crowd.
