Red Hot Chilli Peppers on Tour

To many, the Red Hot Chilli Peppers are more than just a Los Angeles rock band from the '80s -- they're musical pioneers who took the world by storm with their eclectic blend of funky, alternative punk rock laced with hip-hop that sounded unlike anything anyone had heard before. The band first formed in Los Angeles in 1983 and quickly gained a following large enough to sell 300,000 copies of their debut self-titled album. Over the next few years, the band experimented with different musical genres and went through lineup changes, proving themselves to be one of the most innovative and resilient rock groups in recent history. In 2022, the Grammy-winning band released Unlimited Love -- their 12th studio album and first one with original guitarist John Frusciante since 2006's Stadium Arcadium. Celebrating the release of the new album, the band hit the road for a global tour featuring all four original members -- vocalist Anthony Kiedis, bassist Flea, drummer Chad Smith, and Frusciante.  Be sure to see this legendary ensemble back in action performing classic hits and new songs by grabbing tickets to see the Red Hot Chilli Peppers in a city near you today.

Red Hot Chilli Peppers Live in Concert

In 1987, Red Hot Chili Peppers were named Band of the Year by LA Weekly, but the band really hit their stride with their fourth album, 1989's Mother's Milk, which cracked the Billboard 200 and went gold a year later. The RHCP had earned worldwide recognition by the time they dropped Blood Sugar Sex Magik (1991). The album reached No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and the album's first single, "Give It Away," took off like wildfire, soaring to the top of the charts and eventually winning the band a Grammy for Best Hard Rock Performance With Vocal in 1993. The album also featured the single "Under the Bridge," which reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 -- their highest-charting single to date. To promote what some might call the Red Hot Chili Peppers' magnum opus, 1991's Blood Sugar Sex Magik, three of the era's biggest bands -- Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins and Pearl Jam -- joined the Blood Sugar Sex Magik tour as opening acts. Whenever it was time for the headlining set to come on, seeing the Red Hot Chilli Peppers in concert would always feel like an invigorating burst of energy for all the people packed into sold-out stadiums. Their funk-rap breakdowns, animated stage presence, and minimal clothing attire offered relief from the brooding grunge of the punk-metal status quo. All in all, Blood Sugar Sex Magik was a tremendous commercial success, selling 12 million copies to date, cinching the #186 position on Rolling Stone's list of the Top 500 Albums of All Time, and winning three out of the seven MTV Music Award nominations it received.

The band made the Rolling Stone Top 500 list a second time with Californication (1999), their seventh studio album and most successful yet with 16 million copies sold. The Red Hot Chilli Peppers supported the album on tour for two consecutive years at sold-out venues across the world. The album lit a californi-craze for the RHCP that has burned steady since. The first live album, recorded during a 2004 Red Hot Chilli Pepper concert in Hyde Park, was the No. 1 event of the year on Billboard's Top Concert Boxscores with a record-breaking number of 258,000 fans and a total of over $17 million in tickets sold in the span of three nights.

Since then, they've been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (2012), released a handful of more albums: 2006's Stadium Arcadium, which peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200; 2011's I'm With You, which hit No. 2; and 2016's The Getaway, which also peaked at No. 2.

    1st time seeing RHCP

    by Rink64 on 2012-11-02Target Center - Minneapolis

I can just imagine how awesome they were 10-20 years ago. They blew the roof off the Target Center at age 50! The Star Tribune and Pioneer Press reviewers are on crack. They must have got some of their free-bees cut back, because they both spewed pure crap.

    RHCP did not disappoint!

by BizzoB on 2012-06-15Joe Louis Arena - Detroit

What a great show! The 5 hour drive was worth it, the boys rocked it out and the audience loved every minute. Looking down on the floor I could not see anyone not moving, the building was alive with pure energy from an amazing performance. The tribute from Chad to Lindstrom was moving and inspirational and made that particular show so much more awesome! As soon as the first song started my body started to move and didnt stop until the show was over.

    RHCP rule Toronto

by OBlade on 2012-05-09Air Canada Centre - Toronto

Went to both nights of the RHCP playing the ACC in Toronto. Never seen them before... but wow. They are so much better live. When they jam you can really see where the skill's coming from. Even songs I personally consider relatively mediocre, like Throw Away Your Television, Universally Speaking, and anything off their new album become huge stadium rockers. The just exhibit a perfect attitude of wanting to be on stage and have fun. It's infectious. First night's playlist consisted of more Californication songs, while the second was a tribute to BSSM, but both were great. No words can do justice to how amazing the shows were, seriously. Just wish they played longer, 1.5 hours aren't much. Another encore would've nailed it.

    Un-freaking-believable!!!!

by Crash on 2012-05-04Air Canada Centre - Toronto

Absolutely LOVE the Chili's!!!! This was my third time seeing them and I have to admit I was a little worried Josh wouldn't be able to fill John's boots, but he did a fantastic job! Loved it so much that we are planning on going to Cleveland June 2nd to see them again, and possibly Lolla as well :)

    Red Hot Chili Peppers rock!

by girlinskinnyjeans on 2012-05-03Centre Bell - Montreal

Although I do like listening to them, I'm not a hard core fan, and I bought the tickets for my boyfriend. I was a bit worried that they were gonna play only their new stuff, which I didn't really know. But it turned out to be FANTASTIC. They played about 70% of their older hits and 30% of the best of their new stuff. They are with no doubt real entertainers and really know how to put on a great show. They obviously want to please the crowd, and totally did! It was money well spent and a GREAT SHOW, I would go see again anytime.

This was a fantastic show. The Chilli Peppers are a tight and talented band. They have hit songs and it's their rhythm section I dig the most. Flea and Chad were super tight.

    Solid but not amazing

by BigBob on 2012-05-02Air Canada Centre - Toronto

The Chili Peppers are a really good band and put on a very good show. Here were the pros and cons: Pros: - great sound - good playlist - good value on tickets - fans really get into the show - haven't heard so many people sing along to so many songs - ever! Cons - skipped some required material (like Snow) - set was too short overall. 1 hr 45 min with encore. - Sleigh Bells are a logical opening act genre-wise, but they're not ready for prime time yet. Her voice doesn't carry and you could hardly see them on stage in the shadows. D + at best. They have some potential though. - way too much pot smoke; I'm not judging, but it was out of control

    RHCP - Best Show Ever!

by KatYo on 2012-05-02Air Canada Centre - Toronto

I go to MANY shows a year in various genres - my taste in music is all over the place. But the Chili Peppers were better than anything I've seen before. They blew me away. Hit after hit, non-stop energy. My only disappointment was that it didn't go on for many more hours and that there's no guarantee they'll be back soon.
