Rita and the Von Trapps - a wonderful combination

by Joaniebee on 2011-11-23Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

This was a great preview to the christmas season - they all have such wonderful singing voices and personalities, which came through to the audience.

Rita MacNeil & The VonTrapp Children

by Jacquieg on 2011-11-23Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

This was fantastic! I was so impressed with the VonTrapp Children and would have liked to have stayed to meet with them and express my thanks for their performance. I liked the way they interacted with Rita and their genuine enthusiasm for singing, engaging the audience and their respect for each other. Their song choice was wonderful and I especially liked Melanie's solo of "Mary Did You Know". Thanks Rita for your choice of guests to join your Christmas show. Your pianist/composer brought tears to my eyes. This was a wonderful way to start the Christmas season. My only disappointment was the change from "Christmas" to "Seasonal", and Rita, although she & the Von Trapp's sang a marvelous Christmas message, wished us a "Happy Holiday". This is Christmas, not a holiday. It is Christmas not a season.

Rita MacNeil is always worth seeing. Her Christmas songs are very heart warming. She seems like such a warm and caring person. The von Trapp children were wonderful. Their voices are amazing. It was cute to see how shy they seemed to still be after all the touring and entertaining they are doing. It's good that Rita brings a guest with her. I think it keeps people coming. Eventhough Rita is good - her show doesn't change much from year to year.

Frank Mills saved the performance. It was sad to see how Rita's health interferes with her ability to perform and sing. This is the sad reality of age and health. I have fond memories of Rita's performances but sadly this was a let down. I hope Rita continues to write music and record her music. There can still be a way for her to sing without the endurance of a live performance.

    Rita MacNeil and Frank Mills

by Smoothie2 on 2010-12-23Kelowna Community Theatre - Kelowna

Rita was okay, but many of her songs lacked the zest of her mining songs. My wife and I thought Frank Mills stole the show. Rita and Frank, however, were a good combination, which made the show a good evening.

The first couple of songs I thought that there was something wrong with the star, her band, or the equipment; however from the third song onsward it was absolutely FANTASTIC. Frank Mills was fabulous and should consider coming out of retirement! Merry Christmas to you all, it was a lovely Christmas Spirit!

Rita and Frank go well together. She has a beautiful voice. I believe that if you have a chance to see her in concert you should go, because there are not going to be many more. Frank is an excellent Piano player. We had a lot of fun. Well worth to see it

    Rita and Frank were magnificent

by tellmewhichname on 2010-12-17Kelowna Community Theatre - Kelowna

I just think Rita MacNeil is such a cutie and was so excited to know I would finally be able to see her live. Frank Mills is a legend and I have his first album bought 40 years ago. One of my favourites. We had front row seats and I felt like Rita was singing just to me. Very personable, both of them, and seemed to enjoy just talking to the audience. I was a bit disappointed with the lack of effort in the set design. I thought these two great performers deserved a better Christmas scene-type set. It would also have made a more special evening for the audience.

We enjoyed the event overall. It was slow to get started in our opinion but really enjoyed Rita's band. The highlight for us was Frank Mills. He's an outstanding performer, comedian and storyteller all in one package. We welcome him back anytime please. Rita's voice seemed screachy at times and sometimes weak. However we admire her personality and spirit.

    Rita should consider retirement

by JShowWatcher on 2010-12-16Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

Extremely poor. Especially for the price. Thank god for her band and Frank Mills or it would have been a total bust. It didn't even sound like her.

    Rita's Spirit of Christmas

Rita's concerts never disappoints. The addition of Frank Mills was an absolute charm. I think Kim Dunn is an excellent song writer, and singer.

    Awesome Performance

I didn't actually go to the show myself but gave the tickets , as a Christmas present to some very close friends, whom are not well. They were wowed at how powerful Ms.MacNeil's voice was and talked about the concert all the way home. They were very grateful for the present, my best friend has always wanted to see Ms. MacNeil in concert and now another thing off the bucket list.

    My Parents Both Loved it

by Carm99 on 2010-12-15Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

My parents told me that this was one of their best early Christmas presents ever. Frank Mills can still play so wonderfully and Rita was in fine form.

    Frank Mills was Amazing!

by Bowness on 2010-12-15Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

I went to this facility, doubting the Jubilee - thinking the Winspear would have been much better acoustically - however, I was pleasantly surprised, the music sounded great, and Frank Mills really loved the piano that was provided. Both Frank and Rita sounded wonderful, and this was a great mix to get everyone into the Christmas spirit. Lets just keep our fingers crossed they will come back next year!

RITA IS AS ALWAYS TOTALLY AMAZING!!!!

by Edmonton1968 on 2010-12-15Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

Rita is a fabulous singer and a lovely person! Her concert with Frank Mills and her band was the best I have ever seen! Afterwards Rita made an effort to speak to my Mother and sign a book for her as it was her birthday the following day! Frank Mills is a kind man and his Music Box Dancer a Timeless Hit! If you have a chance to see Rita, you must go!
