    Volbeat was worth the wait

    by Carebear28 on 2013-09-13Rexall Place - Edmonton

Volbeat was the headliner for a reason, they were kick ass! They were insanely loud, but they sounded perfect. Airborne sounded really good as well, but due to the early start of the show and with work, we only saw their last two songs by the time we reached our seats. Both the leads for All That Remains and HIM left the stage during the show (the guy from all that remains multiple times) for what we could only guess was for a fix. Pretty sad if you cannot get through an hour without it. The All That Remains guy didn't sound too messed up, but the lead for HIM was obviously messed up when he came back out from his "intermission". One thing I really enjoyed about Volbeat was there were not any drug use breaks, but they went straight through with massive energy, using the crowd as their high. They were humble, and they did their best to entertain the crowd and succeeded in doing so. They even brought the kids in the crowd up for the last song to rock out with them which was really cool (except for the older girl who ruined the kid rocking vibe by taking her shirt off to try and dance with the band in her bra which was creepy and the whole band moved away from that side of the stage or ran around her whe they did trade sides- still cool). I would go see Volbeat again for sure, this was my second time seeing HIM and I was dissatisfied, with the getting high and the sound, it was like the lead was out of breath. Last time I saw him at Ed's and although he chain smoked, he sounded so much stronger with his voice. All That Remains sounded good if you are into the throat screaming, I liked when they actually sang, personally and no offense to those that do enjoy it, but the throat screaming was not my thing. I wish I got to see more of Airbourne as it sounded like they put on a good show.

    Volbeat was great

by stevens on 2013-09-12BMO Centre - Calgary

Volbeat was great, though their concert last March at Mac Hall seemed to have more energy and better, clearer sound. Not sure if the BMO centre is known for crappy sound or not. Anyway, HIM was not a fun band to see live. They had no energy and don't think they said anything to the crowd the whole time. No one in the crowd was moving at all when they played. All that Remains was great and I'd see them again (but not for the $65 dollar ticket price again)

    Airbourne Rocks

    by Sparky22 on 2013-09-12BMO Centre - Calgary

Volbeat was good as always, they never fail to put on a good show. Unfortunately you have to sit through a very long set by HIM to get to Volbeat. HIM simply doesn't belong with the rest of the bands on this tour. Airbourne, the first band up absolutely rocked! They got the crowd primed for a great show with their kick ass, but short, set. All That Remains also had a good set and kept up the momentum. Up next was HIM, a seemingly endless set played to a bored crowd who finally started to boo them mid way through the set. Needless to say, all momentum was lost and Volbeat had to play to a turned off crowd. Bottom line, Airbourne 5 stars! All That Remains 3 1/2 stars. HIM 1star (for finally stopping). Volbeat 5stars. HIM and Airbourne need to switch spots on the remaining dates to make this a truly great show.
