About

Over three decades and numerous albums, industrial metal scene leaders Static-X are consummate survivors. Even after the untimely death of lead singer Wayne Static in 2014, the group has regenerated and continued to record new music while honoring the late frontman's legacy. Unlike their more straightforward '90s nu-metal counterparts, Static-X were heavily influenced by house music, blending influences like Pantera with the electronic stylings of Prodigy and the Crystal Method to define their sound.

Static-X were originally formed in 1994 after Wayne Static's former band, Deep Blue Dream (featuring a pre-Smashing Pumpkins Billy Corgan), broke up. Along with drummer Ken Jay and guitarist Emerson Swinford, Static relocated from Chicago to Los Angeles and the trio formed a band called DRILL. Swinford left the band and was replaced by Koichi Fukuda, and Static-X was born.

The band's first album came out in 1999 at the height of the nu-metal era. Wisconsin Death Trip contained the singles "Push It," "I'm With Stupid" and "Bled For Days." They played Ozzfest to support the album and released an EP, The Death Trip Continues, the following year.

Fukuda departed Static-X soon after, and in 2001 the band released their sophomore effort: Machine. The following year, Wayne Static's vocals were featured on the Queen Of The Damned: Music From the Motion Picture soundtrack ("Not Meant For Me," written by Korn's Jonathan Davis). Jay left the band shortly after, and in 2003 Static-X's third album, Shadow Zone, was released, featuring "The Only" and "So" as singles. Replacing Jay was former Seether drummer Nick Oshiro.

In 2004, Static-X released Beneath... Between... Beyond..., a collection of rarities and demos. The band released their fourth album, Start A War, in 2005 with "I'm the One" and "Dirthouse" released as singles. In 2007, Static-X shared a fifth album, Cannibal, which had music ("No Submission") featured on the Saw III soundtrack. Also in 2007, the band shared their exclusive Destroyer EP and toured on Ozzfest once more.

In 2009, the band released their fifth album, Cult Of Static. The album single "Lunatic" appeared on the soundtrack to Marvel's Punisher: War Zone. Oshiro left Static-X around this time and was replaced by touring drummer Will Hunt.

By the 2010s, the members of Static-X had split off to concentrate on separate projects, and Static toured with a solo band under the Static-X name. In 2013, the band announced that they were officially breaking up, though Static continued to play the band's material on tour as a solo act. In 2014, Static died at 48 ostensibly due to a long history of substance abuse, though officially his death was termed a natural one.

A few years after Static's death, the former band members reunited and began to parse through old unreleased demos. Composing new songs from that material resulted in Project Regeneration, which came out in two volumes, the first of which dropped in summer 2020. To support the album, the newly reformed Static-X toured with a new, masked frontman named "Xer0," who was rumored to be Edsel Dope of Dope. The band also released a single, "Hollow," which peaked in the Top 15 in the U.S. Dance/Electronic chart.

Co-headliners Sevendust and Static X had blistering sets at the Arena in Pickering Casino. Openers were Lines of Loyalty & Dope. Sound was great throughout, most importantly the GA crowd was super hyped. Can't wait to see another show there!

    Mind-blowing!!

by Astrifera on 2024-02-24The Arena at Pickering Casino Resort - Pickering

The Concert was amazing! The Staff, Security, and Officers were friendly, helpful and seemed to vibe with all of the Attendees! My Brother and I got the VIP Package for Static-X which was SO worth it! Static-X in particular has been one of my favorite Bands since I was a young teenager, and never did I ever think I'd get to meet them. I wish I had been able to meet Wayne when he was still with us, but the Memorial part of their Show really did make it feel like he was there. I could see that not only were the Bandmembers physically and emotionally celebrating Wayne's life and legacy, but also all of the Attendees in the crowd. The emotion, the cheers, the music, the vibe - Wayne was there, I could feel it! Meeting Tony, Ken, and Koichi was honestly so amazing. My Brother and I got to talk to them for quite a bit during the Aftershow Meet & Greet + Photo-Op, and it seriously felt like we'd known them forever. We talked about so much! What truly made my night was when; *I got a biiig hug from Tony right after we introduced ourselves to each other, and then we conversed about so much!! *Then Ken was soo sweet with introducing himself, and tenderly taking my hand to shake it. *And of course Koichi, he was so polite and introduced himself with such a calm flair. **Overall, I was thrilled to attend the Concert and be jamming out with hundreds of equally revved up Fans. I also fell in love with Sevendust immediately. I have listened to their music only for a short time, but watching them perform live was next level - they are by far one of my top favorite Bands now! And Static-X will always feel like home to me. Their music is not only invigorating, but therapy and nostalgic. I can't wait for them to hopefully return to Pickering (Toronto) again or nearby, because I for one will jump at the chance to see them Live and Meet them all over again!! Thank you to all parties involved in The Machine Killer Tour!! It was one I will remember for life! xoxo -Astrifera

    Sound

by Ms on 2024-02-23The Arena at Pickering Casino Resort - Pickering

I really like the static show, however, the first band dope that went on the sound that was coming from the stage was awful and I feel bad for the performers due to the feedback. The rest of the concert seem to be fine after they worked out the kinks I guess, but for the most part what a great show

    Best hour of my life

by Destroyer on 2024-02-22The Arena at Pickering Casino Resort - Pickering

Amazing. I held a sign asking them to let me play guitar for a song. Obviously their complex set didn’t allow for things like this, but they acknowledged me and gave their picks at the end of the concert. Will never forget this experience. RIP Wayne

My Return of Machine Tour review

by Travis John Hopper on 2024-02-21The Arena at Pickering Casino Resort - Pickering

Venue - Big. No signs. Terrible for a newbie. You have to keep asking for help with directions. Otherwise cool af. Smoked pot outside. I heard booze was expensive... big surprise. Huge lines. Great sound! 4/5 Security - were cool to stoners....5/5 Bands - Lol- I didn't like the singers voice, he was good, not my flavour. The mix was all bass n treble no mid. I didn't get it. Dope- set was way too short and talked way too much 1/5. Sevendust - Sounded amazing. Looked good. Threw tons of picks! I got 2! Only wish would be that the lead singer sang the whole song. He kept leaving it to the crowd. I paid to hear him.... that was disappointing. 4/5 Static-X- sounded amazing, looked amazing, theatrics! Stage show! Costumes. Mascots. Balloons! They should have played Otsego Placebo!!!! 6/5

Groups were amazing, venue was Horrible

by Gibbs88 on 2024-02-21The Arena at Pickering Casino Resort - Pickering

Music was great, groups put on an amazing show. Horrible venue, sound was sub par at best. I will never see a rock / metal show at thus place again. Been to 100s of shows over the years and this venue was by far the worst. Sad because the groups put on an amazing show.
